  1. And there you have it Hubbers...the Oracle has spoken!! Eldron...where do you get all this rational wisdom??
  2. You must be taking VERY short rides...because that phone battery will never last one of my rides... :whistling:
  3. I have to agree! I for one do not wear my helmut when I cycle down to my gym session...it's 2.5km's mostly along a bike path...I enjoy the momentary freedom this gives me!! IF I fall and bang my nut...well, It's my own doing and I won't come crying over here!! FOR EVERYTHING ELSE (off road, especially), WHICH ARE FAR MORE SERIOUS...you won't catch me without a helmut!!

    Archery.

Archery (even just for fun)..is quite a cool sport. @Wayne, your kids are still too young to appreciate it....wait till they are older...I'm sure they will join you - it soemthing a dad & lad can do together!! (but, by then the technology would have advanced ...so sell now - buy again later) Mine are really getting hooked...it's starting to interfer with my cyccling...(my lad does not like cycling!!)
  5. Here's the final say on whether to wear a helmut or not... {Pic taken from this weekend, when I ran out of talent at Oak Valley 24hr...} Now imagaine what my head would have looked like if i did not have a nut protector on??? 'Nuff said....
  6. Go Frail... your'e a machine!!
  7. as an outsider looking in...and having dealt with SANPARKS on a contract (still not completed after 6 years!!)...all I can say is good luck...hope your children will be able to start building trails...IT TAKES THAT LONG TO FINLIZE DEALS WITH SANPARKS!!! people leave / move and proceses needs to start all over again!! good luck...

    Hub fund

So, to summerize...this seems the way to go (for now at least)... What simply amazes me is that we as Hubland will pour our hearts out on one worthy cause...and then again some others (where a bloke goes to great lenghts for a cause the HE believes strongly in) does not get that same "hit" as some of the others... I'm not complaining...just amazed at the glue that keeps our society together...a "worthy" cause need to personally hit home; tug at the heart strings or something like that (an unknown factor perhaps?) and then we as a community open up and support beyond my wildest dreams... funny how things sometimes work?
  11. "die Bastard" got me everytime...that flippen hill killed me over and over...I started walking up it when I realised I'm climbing at walking speed...
  12. yip, there where the candy tape was....
  13. I have to agree...it's a monumental achievement!! And add the total lack of sleep to that...+ the difficulty of the single track descend (one had to keep focus all the time)... Then this rates as being up there with some of the best & toughest races!!
  14. Well, I just had a ditch/ravine appear out of nowhere right in front of me...those sneaky bloody trail traps!!
  15. ja, that tend to happen ...usually at 4AM when your caffeine fix has worked off...
  16. Dude, I did not ride last year...I rode 2 years ago! The crash was actually worse than the injuries I walked away with...i.e no broken limbs...just heavy bruising and light concussion.....actually unbelievable, the more I think about it....(perhaps its due to the fact that I'm "big boned" and weighs 95kg's!! they just don't break as easy as weight weeny bones...)
  17. I had a blast...until I came VERY short (at 5:45 AM...on my last of the double laps) and landed in that stream (after hitting the tree trunk lyuing over it) where the ticker tape indicate the bridge... Thanks to Ruan??? (from one of the PWC teams) who was first to stop (in spite of racing for first spot - they were lying 2nd at that stage) and brought me back to conciousness (i gather I took a much deserved little rest just there in the water  ) You sir, deserve a medal!! Hope they gave you an extra lap...as allowed per the rules. Thanks to all the guys who all offered assistance...particularly the bloke who gave me a GU to get over the shock. It helped a lot... Thanks to Meurant and his bakkie who bundu bashed to get to me and get me back out...also the paramedic lady for cleaning & patching me up... Luckily for me, nothing broken! slight concussion...(I simply cannot believe how lucky i was...hitting that tree trunc with my back and flipping over it AND walking away from it) Just bruises and a buggered bike!! Oak Valley - i'll be back in 2015 with a vengeance!! you haven't seen the last of me...
  18. and yet, bikes get stolen on a daily basis...where do they go??
  19. Two weekends ago I witnessed a similar incident to what will be attempted here... this topic came up for discussion!! That time, the "puncture fixer" broke the preta valve off from his tubless et-up, whilst fractically inflating with a micro hand pump...luckily someone had a spare tubleless valve at the ready!! guees what...he did it!! faaark, he sweated like a pig, but got it!! so, i'll change my prediction to one of success - IF the tyre rim combo allows for it... Ps: unfortunately i did not pay much attention to the tyre /rim combo that Hans used...
  20. Gerald, you've nailed it!! Seems the only way to keep costs dowqn is via a major headline sponsor...but those are also difficult to nail down, given the current economic climate.
  21. with numbers of people - you can easily frop that amount to say R400 per year? The raise the dail fee to encourage people to rather get an annual member board rather that pay daily fee...
  22. Take the daily rate X the amount fo times per month you ride there...then subtract a % to make the pot sweeter for an annual membership....voila! Might as well just establish a "club" or trail membership...and work with annual membership boards...no board = no ride!! Edit...sorry did not read all the posts..mine is covered, basically.
  23. F*k...WAAR ry jy???
  24. spoken like a true Capie!!
  25. yes! unless the roads are closed....
