  1. I at first also thought so...try and accelerate and gte away... BUT if you look closely - that dude would have been able to bump him off the bike ...the raod narrows to a gate of some sorts. #fokkers!!! Please tell me more about thsi phone tracking app? I thought GPS had to be enable to track a phone? apparently not... how does it work? do you pay a monthly subscription? All phones or only "new" ones? I want to get that feature...I always ride alone...
  2. On the bright side...at least he did notice you....
  3. NEVER trust a fat cop!! He's not going to chae you...he'll rather shoot you!
  4. sell them here on the Hub??
  5. yes, but more thorns = less stans...so by the end of the thorny ride...your centrifugal mass has decreased by a bit!! But then again, so did your legs (losing a bit of muscle)
  6. Norm, I'd say your are seeing the first signs of wear....see the areas that i have circled...one can see the metal has deformed under pressure. (not to be confused with the machined sections!) As to replacing or not, I'll leave that up to you.... I've been riding my chain + cassette combo way past it useful lifespan and will still do so until chain suck /slipping occur...then replace entire drive train - currently XT components...
  7. Serves you right...lazy woman!! :whistling: you shoulda washed that bike yourself!! Prefrebly BEFORE you jump into shower after your ride...
  8. Rather keep it as a memento....do not open.
  9. what does a poser look like? and what does he do? are they only riding in Jonkers and not on Coetzenburg / G spot / Bottelary?
  10. Cannot agree more! I also get the feeling Mr Roux rides his rails whilst constantly looking over his shoulder to see WHO is there to spot him and WHO he can spot and IF they are posers or not? When i ride trails (Jonkers included!) I actually ride for my own pleasure and not for those around me!! Could'nt care two hoot who poses and who does not...
  11. This entire situation is just begging for a MTB club to be formed... C'mon bike shops in Stellies!!...This is actually an unique opportunity to get in early and bag the worm!! What you say Flandria?? Mason's? Specialised? Piet-se-fiets? I'm a committee member of the Wannabee cycling club in Somerset west...and has seen that club grow from ~300 members a year ago to 1100+ up to end of May this year! Not to mention The University of Stellenbosch that should be spearheading the club formation...as they pottentially have a memberbase spanning several thousand students and also own some rideable land in the area. It's about time they expand their sporting horizons to include more than just rugby!
  12. as an aside...i do know of a very good Graffiti "artist" ...he is just n SMS away!! What would you like to have "tagged" onto the Scott sign???
  13. @Pappa bear...before I even read the 16 pages...this was my first opinion as well... A club will have to be established... Actually, why the resistance for a club? I ride jonker infrequently - but will definately consider joining the club! quote" 9) @ Hellwarp - you bring up a good point. Why develop faster gravity style trails especially with arguably higher maintenance needs. As a group we want to progress mountain biking. Selfishly we too want to be challenged more and more, while also considering all riders thereby offering varying levels of trails. Another facet we considered is that many kids who are taking up XCO racing are going to compete in Pietermaritzburg for example. Because they are not being exposed to massive drop-offs and rock gardens many are unable to ride the world cup course there. In proposing to create a proper XCO course in Coetzenburg we want to offer kids (and all riders) the opportunities to be tested on all levels of technical difficultly. When compared to other bike parks such as Whistler our trails are pretty tame. Last year many local riders struggled on the XCO Course in Pietermaritzburg." This guys...is why we need Jonkers to be succesful!! We need to get a new young generation skilled & equipped to take over where Burry has taken our sport! I cannot agree more...our young upcomming riders need a Jonkershoek to train on...not a fwe days beofre a WC event inanaother province...but every weekend on their doorstep! PLease , Please guys...consider establishing a club and go through the process of negotiating with the landowners on behalf of a club! Jonkers has the potential of being a world-class facility...if it's not already...
  14. Thx guys Really enjoy these technical discussions...makes for a nice mental break over all the other Hub crap...
  15. You will now also have realised that chains cannot actually "stretch"...
  16. This was an intersting article to ead!! HOWEVER, what I still need to get my mind around is this... for any wax...let's assume it gets to the inner part of the chain rollers (i.e.the ONLY place where lube is needed...all else isa total waste) by wahatever means (carried via Squirt's water based solvent ; or flowed in there when the hot wax tech was used...). NOW - this is where Johann Bormann had made a remark - wax, once displaced...cannot flow back to its original position 9such as when the pressure is applied insider chain roller)...so in other words - once a wax is displaced (unlike any oil) it does not return to is original spot... So, my comment on this article would be to alos consider logevity of chains under the same lube conditions...yes, Squirt will be great as thes test has shown....BUT how long will thta hain last , compared to the oil lubes (which flows back to the rollers where it is actually needed?) the article mention 400 -500 miles for chain life...thta is pretty short! If I'm going to replace my chain wevery 400 - 500 miles...I'll actually run it withlut any lube whatsoever - to achieve the BEST wattage - better than any of the tests done inthe article. So, finally - lubes either keep you chain quiet AND reduces friction/wear and improve the lifetime of your chain...wax cannot do that? wax on the other hand
  17. I can proabably get you a 50miler entry spot...
  18. Hmmmm...does it actually penetrate?
  19. Sounds just like ol JB....Geez...I miss the witty comments and endless knowledge!
  20. Doesn't Wurth stand for flippen expensive??
  21. I bought an Italian make of bibs for ~R1800...how much more pricey than that??
  22. Go to wannabe FB site there is an entry floating about... https://www.facebook.com/robin.darius?fref=nf hope the link works...
  23. Now THAT will make me happy!! In fact..I'll gladly pay CSA any affiliation fee if they can ensure that...
  24. This was EXACTLY our situation...in our club, I'm tasked with liaising with a certain amount of the farms...(we have access to ~30 wine farms here...a real priviledge that needs to be looked after - it's our club's greatest asset!) any way, this particular wine farmer is a good friend of mine...after numerous Rogue riders and insulting his wife etc. on the route - I was encouraging him so strongly to please just prosecute 1 person...it would have gone a long way...but he just said "it's far easier to just throw in the towel and close off for all MTBing"...imagaine the potential bad publicity a tresspassing trial can have on his bussiness side?? Not too mention the lawyers fees!!
  25. Does anyone actually know of a case where prosecution by a landowner was succesful? I'd be interested to know...
