  1. Hi Guys

We now have a group of 50 plus cyclists who would like to be refunded.

Please join the group and add your details to the Google Forms link if you’d like a refund.

Did you enter the Tshwane Classic 2022?

Would you like a refund ?

    I

With this in mind, I am compiling a list of all entrants who wish to be refunded so we can take the process forward. For now, please join the group, I will keep you informed of progress with the matter and would also like your name for an open letter to Hectic Promotions from their customers which will be disseminated publicly stating our case and humbly requesting that we are refunded.

Here is the link to the list of people who would like a refund. Please enter your details here:

  2. I have mailed the organizers asking for a full refund.

The issue here is that you cannot get clients to waive their CPA rights by signing contracts. It is difficult to contest because it is unlikely that anyone will contemplate defending their CPA rights over R400. Some organizers try to get around this by stating that if the event is cancelled on the day as a result of health and safety issues then they will not refund you. This is contrary to the spirit of the CPA which is not interested in WHY the event was cancelled, only that consumers are protected from paying for goods and services and then not receiving them, whatever that reason may be.

My interpretation is that we are legally entitled to a refund, whatever the organizers say. This relates specifically to protection afforded to South African consumers by the CPA.

Think about it. They organized and advertised an event that they then cancelled three hours before the start. There were no storms, snow, fires, Russian missiles, etc. In my opinion the only reason they didn’t proceed is that it was a speculative exercise where they probably decided to not go ahead if they didn’t have the numbers. This is not on. You cannot takes money from over 1000? people under such circumstances and glibly refuse refunds  because you didn’t get sufficient numbers.

Let’s not kid ourselves about the postponed event. The reputational  damage sustained will put paid to anyone being interested in Tshwane Classic 2022: The Sequel 😱

  3. I'm keen. It won't be easy though, as I will have to negotiate my way around the recently decreed, and somewhat heavy-handed (IMHO) "no bikes on holiday" ban from 26-31/12 ????

  4. Must say....I got Powerade and a Coke at the finish. (Drinks was at the medals table 3km after the finishline. )

Lucky you. When we got there, there was only warmish water. A penalty for a poor performance?

  5.

Apparently I needed a lot more rest after the bronchitus , so technically I rode while still sick . Thank the Lord for that last water point ... I  would have needed an Ambulance

That is scary stuff. We know we're not meant to ride when sick, but don't always feel sick. Glad you're okay.

  6. Started in CL. Got into a decent bunch at the end if the neutral zone. Very tough day. Feeling mangled today. Got to 90km in 3 hours. Took 39 minutes to do the last 12km after blowing spectacularly :-0

3 things I learnt from yesterday:

    1. Not eating on the bike for 102km is a bad idea. One small bidon of water is not enough.

    2. The only way to prepare for riding fast is riding fast. Over the last year, work and sickness has eaten up my meagre training programme.

    3. The entry fee did not include a cold drink at the finish.

  7. Really does look like road racing is dying a very rapid death - entries extended until 31 August - which probably means that there were not as many entries as anticipated before last night's deadline ...

Yip. Will be something to tell the grand kids.

"Back in the day, groups of us used to ride our bikes on tar, with cars all around!"

"Really, Grandad! That must have been a long time ago."

    ;-)

  8. The next one on the list is this coming Sunday starting from Pro-Cycle Benoni http://audaxsa.co.za/schedule/

There is a 100 and 200 on the cards. Seems like the 200 route is out to Heidelberg and Dasville and then back.

    So who's doing it?

I've always wanted to do one, but haven't had the chance yet.

*I've searched for this event/thread, but couldn't find anything*

    I'm in.

All things Audax appear on the Aurasan 2014 thread. I've just posted to it.

  9. What a lekka day's riding. I tried several times to get away but on the flat roads the bunch always cuaght up. Apparently only one crash towards the back of AL. We caught the remainder of the vets 2km from the end - who all then wanted to sprint for the line despite being more than 5min down. As the major bonus for the day , I then met Escapee. What a nice guy. Now to get my knees to stop hurting for the sand of tmrw on my S/ S.

Also started in Al. Got blown out of the bunch in first 10km. Crazy fast start (for me). Soloed for a bit and then got into a group of stragglers. Cruised to 90km, before blowing. Tough day. Will be back.

  10. Awesome riding today. Nasty crash in AL on the M7 about 30km out. There was a gully about 50mm wide separating the lanes. One of the bunch went down, then the rider on his wheel also hit the deck. Pity it wasn't marked. Hope it wasn't too serious.

Top marks to the organizers. Will mos def be back.

  11. Oh yes, and those who thought it was a myth, Rennies DO help take cramps away

Found two gents on my sweep back from the 50km turn around point, one lying on his back with legs up against the wall, bad leg cramps. His friend said he had taken salt tablets, so I offered him Rennies, to which he was totally stunned, said a colleague at told him to take some with, and said he is definitely going to apologise today to the person for not believing them.

But if you guys do get cramps along the route, just wave one of us marshals to stop, we always carry it in our med kits on the bikes. :D

And any other medical assistance you need, also wave us to stop and assist, that is what we are trained to do, and what we are there for on the races. We can always catch up with our groups after helping you first.

Thanks for the fantastic effort J.P! It really adds a lot to these events having Road Rangers involved.

I started in BL, but got debunched in the neutral zone. Formed a group of 8 and got caught by CL just outside Springs. The section from Sunward Park on Rondebult was filled with cars. Our bike marshalls guided us through the mayhem.

Hope to see you Guys at the next one.
