  1. Wearing of Safety glasses is drilled into us as appies in aviation. You DON'T want to get caught without them by someone your senior. So it's like 2nd nature to me now. When I was still at SAAT, I pretty much wore them all day and now that I'm not, I pretty much wear them all day at home on the weekends. Even for silly woodwork jobs they prevent a fair amount of dust. I have a few pairs of decent ones. I did a factory rolls royce engine course a few years back and the instructor had company issued Oakley safety glasses. I was drooling because they looked very similar to my cycling glasses😂
  2. I lagged so much when they ask Lewis if he wanted to pit and he was like you tell me, not my job to make those decisions. Then bitches about being screwed over by the strategy. Russell played it well waiting for the inevitable safety car. Was so bummed for msc. Still not sure who was more to blame there. Hope their friendship stays strong.
  3. Miami looked like a lekker vibe but the race itself was a but bland for me. My team needs more straight line speed. Glad Sainz had better luck and actually finished. Initially I was glad that Pre race storm didn't stay but in hind sight it may have made it more exciting.
  4. I also saw some headlines but info is still a bit vague. 737-800, into the side of a mountain in a remote rural area. That's one of the headlines I saw.
  5. That's like stealing a ghost bike. Wrong on so many levels. Hope they get it back.
  6. I think I was club 21 before my first sub3.
  7. Sorry, didn't see you wave. I saw you arrive and fist bump all your team mates but at that stage we were in like a temporary area because some of the tandems like myself got sent the wrong way and we had to enter from the front. Then as I was going to go chat they moved us to our pen with the rest of the tandems. When did you wave?
  8. I don't think I have ever raced(or even trained) in such hectic rain and wind combined before. About 15 min before I got out of bed it started raining at the waterfront where we were staying. Rode to the start in the rain. Waited in the # chute in the rain. Started in the rain. Decided while in the chute to just take it easy and finish safe instead of chasing a time/position. It rained softly until about the university, then it was a bit harder until just after cresting Edinburg drive. Then it was soft again until just after turning onto main road. This was also when the wind started blowing all over the place. Luckily it got soft again by about kalk bay. The coming into Simonstown it came down hard again(we could see the lights but no boats in the harbour) and boulders it got so hard I felt like I was being attacked by a hornet. The wind also picked up again and we got blown around a lot. The rain and wind eased off somewhere up smits. Then near Scarborough area(where the sea is right next to you) we could hear the waves but couldn't actually see it. The visibility was about 20/25 metres due to the rain. The driest part of the route was up chappies under the bridge things. It was just constant soft rain from chappies to the finish. Some parts of the route the road was completely under water so just one big puddle. I saw so many punctures(luckily didn't see any crashes but did see on 2 occasions someone being loaded into an ambo). Shame even saw one guy changing his tube with about 1km to go. Carbon rims don't brake so well when wet so I had to go very easy on all the descents which is where we are able to make up time on the tandem. Ended on a 3h 35m so it's one of my slowest times but at least we finished safely. 31 tours for myself and 33 for my Dad. Thanks to all the marshals and organisers. Always a great event. Can't wait for 2023.
  9. I also noted this. On our Saturday ride through sea point every few metres there were flat rats. It's so warped how there are so many homeless people sleeping on the pavement of multi million rand apartments and rats running rampant.
  10. I was spluttering like a 1962 beetle, my toppie was the one purring like a Porsche. Sorry man, I had spare gels, would have gladly assisted. Although it was so close to the finish, not sure it would have helped.
  11. Possibly a scape goat? Sounds like the team have wanted him out almost since he joined and maybe just took the opportunity. Thing is, they took him in for Daddy's money, now that's gone.........
  12. Sorry man. I'll keep quite until I get down there and then post Pre race coffee ride photos.
  13. Where you staying? Jase and his family are staying near to me and we planning a ride together on Saturday morning. Will WhatsApp you during the week.
  14. A ride 4 my bike. It used to be owned by a buddy of mine and he recently sold the business and the new guy still offers a decent service so sticking with him. I started a new job a week before the October edition last year so know all about that.
  15. This time next week I will be arriving in Cape Town. Dropping my bike off with the transport company on Sunday. Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please can everyone in # ride a nice hard consistent pace. Lets leave the attacks for somewhere around Camps Bay.............
  16. You might just be a very rare male that decided to do the right thing. Most of us, me included, would probably have raced and done more harm. Lousy for you, I feel for you. Must be very frustrating.
  17. I'm seeing reports on social media that the antonov 225 has been destroyed by the Russians. They apparently bombed its hanger. Maybe we lucky and the 225 was not in the hanger.
  18. When you wake up on the morning and look outside is also too far out.
  19. Time to trade that polar for a Garmin. You'll get better accuracy 😉 *comic sans*
  20. Yoh, glad they never put me in with the elites😂. Reading the comments, they are mostly people complaining about how negatively their seeding has been affected.
  21. Do you have a momentum broker? We have a lady in our office that is a multiply specialist and all she deals with is assisting us planners with clients that have multiply queries. So if you have a broker, chat to them. If you dealing with the call centre, get a broker😉. With regards to the safe dayz, that could be your phone. There is an option to send a query from your phone with the details to IT. If you have done that, did they find a problem?
  22. Not so sure about that. I'm also waaaaay off where I was 5/6 years ago so will just hang onto # for as long as possible. I'll be happy to hang on up Edinburgh drive but I think I'll be looking for passing groups on the blue route tbh. Buuuut if you do see a bright orange tandem with deep carbon rims and a power house 65yo on the back, say howzit, I'll be on the front suffering.
  23. There will be guys that create spreadsheets from the last few years showing how many sub 3s were done from what groups. If you really got time, search last year's thread, the question gets asked every year. Well done and good luck.
  24. And last year you also jumped a lot from 2020 iicr. Well done, that's a proper good group. Your seeding is really starting to reflect your ability. I feel another pb is coming your way.
