Are you guys going through call centre or a financial advisor? As an advisor, the call centre irritates the living day lights out of me. Luckily I have an admin assistant that helps with queries that need to go through call centre. We also have direct numbers for people above call centre agents. For some reason, there are some people that are against having advisors. They think they pay more. In fact it is often the other way around.

I pretty much start budgeting/saving now for next year. I am in the position where I already know now that I am going to enter so no need to um and ahh when entries open and then start thinking about costs. Also gives you time to plan and look for discounts. The Multiply thing helps me a lot.

Flights and accommodation cost me R3500. I am on multiply private club so that is discounted by 40%. I flew safair and stayed at the protea hotel breakwater at the waterfront in the smallest room suitable for only a couple. Car hire my Dad paid for but it was about R1500 for a class A(smallest) from Friday morning to Sunday afternoon(again got a decent discount through multiply). Fuel, we literally only drove from airport to hotel and back(we walked to expo and waterfront for everything). Filled up at the BP by the airport and it was 100 bucks. Bike transport was R1600 for a tandem. Single bike is often cheaper. Entry ???? flip I can't even remember, maybe a grand???? Food, that is hard to say as we all do things differently. We obviously were not able to cook ourselves at all so "ate out" with every meal.

Chatting to a mate of mine in racing tandems. They(not him luckily, the group) crashed on the onramp going onto the highway after like 1km!!!!! and that was a small group of 30 tandems.

and then our group crashed another km further down the road.

It sommer hurts just watching this. Shame we saw those guys still lying there when we cam passed in 1B.

I wonder if the increase of accidents comes down to the fact that a lot of us are racing less than we used to and also a lot of new blood to the sport that, while they are strong riders, have very little bunch riding experience. A lot of the time, the guys are also just not concentrating, it's like they texting while riding.

If you talking about the crash at the bottom of hospital hill, you must have been close to me. Some guys went down in the middle of the group towards the front. Then instead of panicking I just picked a line and didn't even slow down then all of a sudden some dude ploughs into the back of us. The sound of his spokes grinding our derailleur is horrendous. Anyway, our derailleur was jammed into the spokes so although I managed to keep us from falling(I heard him come down taking a few extra with him) we had to stop to bend the derailleur back. That's when my race was over but the ride could continue luckily. Wounded bike and unable to use the top 2 gears made chappies and suikerbossie a bit hard..........

So I have realised I can no longer loose any more weight before the race so I am now deleting as many messages off my phone as possible to make it lighter. #marginalgains

My bike should be on it's way down, was picked up from my LBS last night and I believe they left early this morning. The butterflies have been waking up in the last week or so but now they fluttering like mad. My bright orange tandem really sticks out from the crowd.

Received this in a mail a few min ago. I know it gets discussed every year. 1A group (06h30) - 1H group (06h51) All groups up to 1H will be treated as having a bunch start time (ie when the gun goes, not when you cross the timing mat). All other age group prizes not mentioned above will be awarded to the fastest person irrespective of starting group.

Guess I am just sour because my team(Ferrari) is still no better. I am glad Aston has now joined the best of the rest party though. Pity Maclaren went backwards.

My first 4 were on the back of a tandem. 5th one was solo. I want to be like your Aunt, still able to race it at 70!!!! Wat n yster!!!
