  1. As with anything it depends on your needs, and you need to do research. Like SLX vs XTR. Yes XTR is "better" technically, but not for everyone it isn't. My issue is Breville is still an appliance company and not a coffee equipment company. @Home are the local agents and my experience asking about new models was dismal, so I would be worried about support. That said I still think it's a good grinder if you want to do espresso and other methods as it's easily adjustable. IMO It will suite entry level machines well like Breville, but above a SBDU machine for espresso I would say you need something that grinds more consistently, faster, adds less heat to the beans and adjusts finer. No point having a great machine and crappy grinder, rather do it other way around. I would say minimum is the Krupps GVX 1/2 grinder @ R600 for entry level machines to start with or to grind for french press etc. It can actually go pretty fine or coarse. Still using it with my Oscar but it's not ideal for the machine. Then something like the Rancilio Rocky is popular @3,5k and then something like the Compak K3 touch or Mazzer mini @7k for the serious home user. Personally I wouldn't go bigger than that, but V12 does like his 20k+ Mazzer Robur commercial grinders
  2. To use with which machine? Budget? Espresso only or do you want to grind for other methods? How much counter space have you got? Height wise too.
  3. I just use mine as a guide with RPE, good for training. Can't think of a racing scenario I have used it other than looking at the files afterwards. Trail running races I do use it though, can't just hammer it for 5 hours!
  4. Left one aint bad, right on has been standing a bit, SBDU's hey Make some on the GS3 and post pics
  5. Serfas has a value for money one, been really chuffed with it so far
  6. Oh ok, grinder looks like a Mazzer copy
  7. Please don't buy a machine with the grinder built in
  8. 10k locally from the distributor Alessandro at Tazadoro/Morico Imports. Great guy!
  9. Nuova Simonelli Oscar like I got. Then another 4-7k for a grinder...
  10. Very nice, Jedi Christmas Tree? Just yanking your chain.
  11. For the home user I think that is the best compromise ito price and features. I can recommend it, great supplier to deal with. It still fits under cupboards and you don't have to plumb it. You can still live with a SBDU if you don't do milk, but for the extra cash I'd rather have the option of doing milk and a more stable machine as in the Oscar. If you have people over, chances are they will want milk drinks, no use having a machine that can't produce the goods It will take you forever to make cappuccinos for 4 people; pull shot, wait, steam, wait, pull shot etc. There's a good video on this on SCG channel
  12. Will you be making much coffee other than this? Just asking because with the equipment outlay required it may be much cheaper for you to just buy your daily cappuccino if there is a good cafe nearby. Unless you really want to learn and have a passion for it. Don't want to put you off, just being realistic as you'll need to spend 10k plus at the least.
  13. Go look at the videos on Seattle Coffee Gear's channel on youtube. There you will see what we meant with SBDU not being ideal; by the time the machine is warm enough to produce steam after making the shot, the shot is cold and the crema has disipated so you cappuccino won't be cafe quality. On the other hand with cafe machines (dual boiler mostly) or HX machines like the oscar you can do both at the same time or one after the other. Without the heating/cooling cycle the temp stays stable so more consistant shots
  14. Already bought the Nuova Simonelli Oscar, which I can whole heartedly recommend! If you want to steam milk then this would be the entry level to look at, around 10K. Then a good grinder around 4- 7k to go with it. You can get away with other machines called single boilers but you have to wait before you can steam after making coffee so not ideal. Not stable temperature wise so coffee from it isn't as good. Still much better than Nespresso or the machine I'm selling granted you take the time to master it. Ranchillio Silvia is such a machine around 7k. If you are serious about coffee please don't buy the entry level domestic machines from Krups, Breville etc. They make appliances not espresso machines... You will be upgrading quickly if you want cafe quality coffee. The milk steaming function makes froth, so cappuccinos are out. You can get a decent shot but not time after time, very inconsistent. See pics below of my Krupps versus Oscar
  15. Lekker! Don't think the frames are actually made here though?
  16. Yeah this was my criteria too, bought the Oscar as it's a heat exchanger. Waiting for a single boiler. Ain't no one got time fo that!
  17. *Shameless product plug* The peanut butter fans should try the peanut butter flavour GU gels
  18. Yes the Oscar model. Love it!
  19. From my research the Oscar is one of the best entry level proper home machines. I love mine and would definitely recommend it. I would advise saving up money and rather buy once. But depends on your needs - what do you want/need Stephan?
  20. You better be quick for this one : Urban Espress Coffee Co. We have another second hand Nuova Simonelli Oscar for sale in store. Get it quick, it surely won't be available for long at this price. http://nuovasimonelliusa.com/oscar.html Unlike · · Share · 12 minutes ago ·
