  1. Warning signs or grading is cool and needed I think, but some places like that rocky climb against the fence by the R21 seems to have been scraped with rocks packed and dumbed down. Hopefully more for erosion control than anything else? It's the only place I can get to regularly to really practice my technical riding, so hope the tougher sections don't get removed. Nothing quite like finaaaally clearing a section for the 1st time that you have been stalling on.
  2. Also interested, need to get back on the bike
  3. Eish! What happened? Glad you are OK. How is the bike?
  4. My issue here is that they will probably not feel the effect of this as they will mostly train in a big group with a back-up vehicle of sorts. But the normal riders out there that ride alone are going to get the flack from people pissed off by their inconsiderate behaviour, increasing the chance of someone getting whacked by a mirror and alienating more drivers from our cause.
  5. I feel indirectly yes. You are making it more difficult for us to get other road users on our side and get legislation passed. Which can lead to others being hurt unnecessarily.
  6. There will be plenty don't worry!
  7. The GT Zaskar 9r Expert seems good value in that class at 13,5k.
  8. Hope has the District tail light, very bright but a bit expensive for some perhaps. Lezyne has the microdrive lights which also look good. Then exposure has the flash and flare lights as well.
  9. Glad to hear you came away OK! Be careful in that area, there have been many incidents there.
  10. Awesome! That should be permanent in any bike shop or home even
  11. I've always ridden like that. The guy's that have laughed at me doing so can take a kite!
  12. Apparently the driver has been left off with a warning until 22 March and the case postponed.
  13. According to the NY times article the taxi made a U-turn, but it remains to be seen what really happened.
  14. I'll be there with GU. See you all out on course and at the expo/registration. Have a safe, fast and enjoyable one!
  15. I don't see a way of this working to be honest but maybe someone else has an idea? But it does seem to be the most immediate solution. We need everyone to play nice on the roads but that will take a long time, if it ever happens.
  16. Coming back from a run in Groenies I already saw 2 guys skipping robots on bikes. Not helping... Hope the riders make a speedy recovery and those at fault are brought to justice!
  17. Very apprehensive to get on the road bike to be honest. Considered selling it. One the one hand I don't want this to take away my freedom and enjoyment of riding, though I really just use the road bike to train for mtb riding, I still enjoy riding it. But on the other I'd rather keep riding mtb and leave the road than doing no riding at all. I saw on twitter another gal was hit in PTA as well, in hospital apparently. Hope she pulls through!
  18. Awesome!
  19. It's about as flat and fast as it can get. Racing starts already in the supposed neutral zone on the tar. Sandy in places and some corners. Quite thorny so tubeless with sealant is advisable. Not sure if the route has changed but usually there are two small and very short steepish climbs that are a bit rocky so just power up them. It can get very hot if you do the 70km ride as it's 2 laps so take enough liquids with you. They don't really have much more than sachets of water last time I rode it. Be aware of fast guys passing you from the longer distance. No clue how it compares.
  20. I have no words. You will be sorely missed Burry.
  21. Another vote for the Serfas Seca RS. Got them at Sportsman's Warehouse for R200 a tyre so widely available any time of the year. Touch wood no issues yet. Use them with tyre liners as well, which is something you can look into.
  22. Magalies adventure or whatever it's called these days also comes to mind. Bit technical but not too long. The 3 Towers Challenge is awesome but you have to be able to climb. Allot.
  23. My 2c is that if he gets hurt, then Groenkloof somehow gets blamed and next thing we know we can't ride there anymore. Tell him to get a helmet next time I say
