  1. He started with us - I dropped a chain, and they came past me - It did not give me any encouragement to push and catch them up! I have to say though that he caused quite a stir through Hout Bay!
  2. On my 26er I use Crossmark Rear and Monorail Front - unfortunately Maxxis has not brought the (L)UST Monorail out yet in 29er, so the 29er has (L)UST Crossmarks front and rear
  3. Never - that's why I put MTB Bars on Mine!!!
  4. A bike with 'Road Gear' and straight bars - 10-speed Ultegra And this is it!
  5. Or Northern Farm
  6. I hope his ban is reinstated, and he is stripped of his TdF win - otherwise it's a slippery slope - imagine future appeals!
  7. I do not believe for one second that he is not guilty - unless of course the guilty cow also ate blood bags, and that is how the plasticiser also got into his blood I would like to see him get banned for 2 years
  8. My suspicion is that the tyre was not seated properly, and came off the rim. A tube will only stand significan pressure if it is 'contained' once it is not, the tube will try to expand to equalise the pressure inside and outside and it can not stretch that much, so will 'explode'. I had one once where I didn't seat the tyre properly, and inflated the tyre to max to 'push' the tyre up onto the bead (crossmark tyres on my rims are difficult to 'push up' to seat right against the rim sidewall) and as I watched, the tyre started to 'peel off', the tube started to appear, and then there was a big bang! The tube had slime in - I was covered in slime, as was the kitchen! So eirther a trapped tube (but that would have burst sooner I think), or the tyre not seated properly. The only other thought, it to make sure that the rim is not too wide for the tyre!
  9. If you're willing to 'spend', then I think you can save quite a lot of weight! RaceFace Bars, Stems, and Seatposts are (relatively) quite heavy - I'm guessing, but I think you could save: 50 to 100g on the stem 100g on the seatpost (at least) 20g to 30g on the seatpost clamp etc. etc. The Trance X1 has a 'stock weight' of 12.8Kg, and comes with Mavic 317 Rims and DT Swiss 370 Hubs - Changing to American Classics will save approaching 350g So, if you've willing to 'upgrade' to (better than) X0 spec, below 11.5Kg is feasable (for a significant cost!)
  10. I also assumed it was a 'standard' X2 that you were referring to. My X1 has also undergon many changes - the 'standard' components on the X1 are not the lightest - you can save over 1kg with a change of bars, stem, and wheels! So I think you are correct with the 'now' weight!
  11. Looking at your pic, I think that is about the lightest you can go for anything like 'reasonable' money! sure you could knock off 150g or so by going from RaceFace to XTR Cranks, but you look to have pretty much the lightest components without going 'exotic'.
  12. I think the 'stock weight' of my 2008 Trance X1 (XT/RaceFace/Juicy 5's) in Medium was around 12.8kg. If we're talking 'complete' with pedals and a sensible saddle, I think you're talking 12 to 13kg in the 20K price range.
  13. What a load of BS - stop buying from CRC at your peril - I'm not saying buy everything from CRC, but what do you think has caused the 'better deal for customers' here in SA? As Eldron says: There is room for everyone - nobody has to sell below cost price - and it makes local suppliers focus on value for money and service!
  14. I use 160mm Rotors (Front and Back) on both my 26er and 29er (I weight 115Kg) and never found them wanting for my riding. I guess it's partly what you're used to (If you've had 185mm, you'll notice the extra 'pressure' needed) and what type of riding you do.
  15. Ah but does he? Many before him has sworn that they were innocent, only to 'come out' later and admit that they cheated! What else is he going to say: Oh bugger I got caught - if only my doctor had a lab as good as the one that found the clenbuterol, we'd have waited a few more days before we 'harvested' the blood, and I didn't know they had a test to detect the placistiser. Never mind, I guess I was just unlucky - My career in cycling is finished, but I've earned good money, and I'll just take up cattle farming!
  16. I'm neither a Contador hater or supporter, but something smells fishy! - a Google search for Clenbuterol gives (amongst others) - Clenbuterol is abused for its ability to alter body composition by reducing body fat and increasing skeletal muscle mass. It is typically abused by athletes and bodybuilders at a dose of 60-120 µg per day - The plasticiser is, apparently from blood transfusion bags - Did this test not take place after the 'rest day' on the TDF Could be innocent (from a steak), or it could be that clenbuterol was being taken earlier on, and that they thought it would have been out of the blood stream before the blood was 'harvested' (maybe the blood was tested by a lab that could not detect very low concentrations?)- but then he must also have been blood doping! I guess we'll never know!
  17. The seeding E-Mail puts me in RR But I should be in AA or BB Re-Seeding E-Mail sent (I NEED the earlier start!)
  18. I haven't seen anything on MicroShift recently. Kiwi (Planet-X) used to stock them, then (I believe) Evolution Cycles took over the distribution of them (but I can't find contact details) Are they still in production/being imported? Also - anyone used them?
  19. And become a Beef Cattle Farmer specialising in supplying cycling teams?
  20. Unfortunately I see it all the time on Cedar Road and even I, as a cyclist, get frustrated when I have to wait behind them - so how do we think other, non cycling, motorists feel. One Cop on Cedar Road early in the morning (and particularly Sat and Sun) could make a fortune in fines - or could at least stop them and 'talk to them' for half an hour (that would 'disrupt' their 'training ride')
  21. I also thought it would be a 2 year ban automatically?
  22. I ride my 29er with a rigid carbon fork, and semi-slicks (those that are fairly smooth in the middle, with knobbies on the outside), for commuting, and then fit an 80mm suspension fork, and wheels with 2.4" Mountain Kings, for the weekends.
  23. As everyone says - too many variables For the 94.7, the winning 50km MTB was 1:40, and the 97.8km Road was 2:15 So, for that race, the 2:1 rule almost works (but the 94.7 50km MTB was not the 'hardest' MTB race there is!).
  24. To the guy that towed his son in the 'buggy' behind him (nice engineering by the way!) - I'm not sure, but I think that this may be the guy who does the triathlon's with him. And to everyone who did something, however small, for someone else on the day!
  25. I did the 25km (after the 45km last year), and thought that the route was 'much improved' and tougher than I thought it would be. There was few 'hold ups' - mainly riders starting through an obsticle (mud or sand) and stopping half way through, causing everyone else to 'get off'. The starting pens worked well (unlike the kids races last weekend!) - the usual 'jokers' who 'wait at the side' and then join the front of the group - obviously feel that they've been seeded incorrectly, and are much 'stronger' than the rest of the group! Overall, bearing in mind that it tries to cater for everyone, I think it was much improved over last year - not the best race I agree, but quite and 'event'!
