I have a Selle Italia Gel Flow saddle with the gap in the middle on my roadie and quite like that. I have a Gobi on my mtb and dont seem to miss the gap - the shape works fine for me. I would try before you buy if you can.

Helmets have a lifespan of around 4,500 miles (7242km), which translates into roughly 5 years (for average recreational cyclists, not professionals). Beyond that, the materials start to break down and the effectiveness of the helmet is compromised. Helmets should also be thrown away after an accident, because no matter how light the damage appears to be, cracks in the plastic and dents in the protective foam will reduce the helmet's protective ability.

Clever People: (I hope this isnt a silly question) How often should one's helmet be replaced? Does it have a lifespan? I have had mine for about 6 years and its still in good condition, but I wonder if its still in good shape to do what its supposed to do when I need it to do it. (after all the sweat and sun and general use)

Get the hubs checked from time to time. Worn bearings and inners can cause irrepairable damage if left for too long. Then go and ride and drink some beer.
