  1. I was told to use it 10-ish minutes before I need the power....but this only works if you know the route.
  2. It says Oranje Vrijs (Oranje Vrijstaat) at the bottom, with the two respective heralds for the two provinces. On the other side it shows Presidents Kruger and De Wet. It was a commerorative knife to remember the signing of peace between the two then states. They sold these replicas at the Kruger Park in the 70's, maybe earlier....I wasn't around. They are pretty cheap and junky, but you definitely do not see them anymore. I have one in better condition.
  3. Very interesting, thanks. Have never been an advocate of the "Atkins" type diet, as people just went pig on protein, fatty bacon, fatty meat...etc.
  4. Saw a docco of a study at some scandinavian university where they had 20 people get all they take in daily, drinks and food, from the university. Ten were on a carb high diet and 10 were on a protein high diet. I remember them finding after a month that the Protein guys had better health stats than the carb guys when compared to their stats at the start of the experiment. It was ages ago, so can't remember all the facts accurately though... I agree with the statement that it should be done in moderation, and should be eased into to give the body time to adjust...
  5. It took me a few months and a lot of research to get my coffee up to standard, I had a Russell Hobbs. That has now broken, and all I could afford was a R180 low pressure Sunbeam from Game. With all i have learnt re grind and draw time etc. I still manage to get something acceptable from it. Proper skill and a good grind with fresh coffee almost makes up 50% of the taste in my opinion.
  6. My lower back pain went away with a small change to setup, ie. shorter stem. I would think that your issue would also be setup related (not necessarily stem related), so have that checked.
  7. Every Gautenger in Jbay looks like that
  8. Sticks and stones will break my bones....but whips and chains excite me
  9. Klink soos Tumbleweed se dokter.....
  10. Trying to hand over ownership?
  11. When I am on my bike....it is!! (or feels like it)
  12. Not really in the wrong, but yeah...incredibly stupid. Having the right to do something does not always make it right...or in this case, safe.
  13. Here I thought you were talking about cycling in the Kruger Park....
  14. 18 wheelers are bad....it feels like they never stop passing....
  15. This happened a few times when I used to commute in Australia.... http://bicycling.com/blogs/thisjustin/2012/09/19/video-cyclists-harassed-by-driver-in-colorado/
  16. Hey Kanga...I ended up buying a bike one size too big because it was a bargain. I took of the 120mm stem and put on a 60mm stem, made a world of difference to comfort in shoulders. I will eventually get the right size mtb, but the shorter stem made enough difference for to enjoy riding it.
  17. Pay someone to do the finish for you.....or spend six weeks trying to get to it and eventually just assemble and play
  18. Look at these...Sonus Faber constructed out of solid wood. They cut the wood in strips then glue them with the grain opposing....
  19. You would need to coat the wood inside and outside. What a lot of people do is to veneer MDF on both sides with the desired wood (sandwich). It retains the tonal quality but cancels out the effect of humidity, but a good coating also limits humidity.
  20. For standard speaker design you need it to be as neutral as possible, quite right. He is looking at a one-off build for a specific guitar to achieve a specific tone, and the type of wood can help achieve the goal. if he had different guitars then a neutral sound would be the desireable goal.
  21. Quite right... But he does want the speaker enclosure to compliment the sound of his guitar, so special circumstances. The front and and back panels ideally should be veneered MDF to allow for movement over an extended period of time.
  22. You get some really nice veneers that you can use. None of the artificial stuff, but proper wood, about 3mm thick. It is very pricey, so get a good carpenter to do it. I would have to hunt, but there is a place in Cape Town that does veneer sheets. Otherwise you can get the planks and have them split in the width by someone with a large bandsaw till you have the veneer sheets....beware, this involves lots of sanding
  23. You just have to play a few acoustic guitars made from different woods to know that wood has a massive effect on tone. A guitar rosewood back and sides will be far crisper than one with Mahogany back and sides, which is a lot warmer. Speaker boxes are reliant on resonance the same as acoustic guitars. Wood movement with changing seasons is not a factor, otherwise all my guitars will be crooked at some time of the year. Wood does however move over much longer periods, so you need to compensate for that. We are not talking about building a run of the mill item here, there are certain criteria which are aimed for. MDF is for mass production, and gets fairly good middle of the road tone.

    FynbosMan

Heard at the KKNK that the capies have censored version of " Jou ma se P***." It is now "Jou ma se fynbos..." Just saying....
  25. Sorry for the "ass"umption that that you did not consider wood tone. Yes, I agree, the Les Paul should match well with maple, it already has a lot of warmth so you want to keep definition. Where do you buy wood? I am lucky in that Rare Woods has a branch in PE, so I can go and pick my own wood. I was lucky enough to find a maple plank with some faint curl in it. Used it as a fretboard on my current go to bass.
