  1. For the OP, not so long a guy got flamed hard on TheHub for pushing counterfeit goods to us. We don' tolerate it here. For me counterfeit is an act of fraud as your parsing on a non-genuine product as the real deal. Copied goods are sold as copies and at copied items price. Personally Ive got issues with both but only get involved when its counterfeit as the intention is to defraud the buyer.
  2. CRC is 100% legit and the preferd online store with Hubbers. But before you hit the buy button give CWC a try
  3. You just cannot confiscate property but since the culprit is trespassing there are other legal options
  4. Reason why I carry my laptop in the backpack. Broke a strap on the pannier bag while dismounting a pavement at 30km/h but the pannier hooks are still 100%. Would love to get a set of Ortliebs but budget only allowed a cheap one from CRC. I tried to make my own pannier but its not cheap, flopped but I got some nice experience in the end. The problem is finding hooks that will work and having the tools. I intend to get some KWAY bags to turn into panniers when I eventually get the opportunity to do some cycle touring (got no time).
  5. I would say every Hubber needs to be able to repair and replace his/her ride. Its not about taking business away from mechanics, its about helping you understand not only where the problem is but more important when its actually a problem. Prevention is better than the cure. I did a post a year ago about the Dummies book for bicycle repair and was really impressed with it. But just google it or ask on The Hub when you got your next challenge.
  6. Agree agree agree Also check your LBS for the tools before going CRC route as I was suprised at how cheap they are at my local LBSs. Also check your hardware store for things like a valve core remover (R15).
  7. Rather go panniers - I've been using a pannier to commute since Feb and it has been perfect. I've gone back to a rugsack only for the reason that I now need to commute with a laptop.
  8. I commute on a MTB and keep my cadence at 82-85, this includes some very steep gradients. I just use whatever gear that can keep me in that zone.
  9. Just a bump for chris. I'm perving those LX shifters I bought (still in the box) and it was such a bonus that they came with a full set of inner & outer cables - worth the price alone. See you knocked off another R50 bucks off them - you really are just giving them away.
  10. We just changed our insurance from Indwe to Hollard and can say your insurance is only as good as your broker. Going direct is not worth it either as you have no guarantee of saving.
  11. @lerouc I forgot to mention (on the other forum) that you also need to build up your kit if you don't already have it: Must have: Helmet/hellmutt and thats > R400 Pomp > R70 Spare tube ~ R50 Patches ~ R20 Multitool > R100 Nice to have: Camelbak R500-R1000 or any other hydration bag Bibs and top > R1000 or just go to Mr Price and get the tops from them (cheap but good quality) and then get a good pants/bibs/shorts (> R500) Cleats & Shoes > R1000 but first ask on the Hub for which ones.
  12. @lerouc welcome to your new home ... the only thing more addictive than cycling is theHub
  13. I'm guilty as charged, my last SCR was 3 weeks ago - loved the look on the guys face as I eventually outpaced him (after 4km) on my commuter, hairy legs and pannier bag
  14. Chris has now converted me to CWC with this weeks purchase, placed the order just before lunch and it was at the office the next morning. Very impressive considering that Somerset West is an outlying area for deliveries and I'm used to 2-3 days from the Cape Town online stores. CWC has ended up being cheaper, quicker and more convenient than CRC. Not saying we must boycott CRC but compare first before you hit that buy button. Also kudos is not just for Chris but also for my LBS, got a rear derailleur for R20 more at my LBS as what CRC would have supplied it (CRC + VAT). And it was a walk in walk out transaction. (I got some shifters from CWC instead of the derailleur and got an Acera from my LBS instead)
  15. I found snail mail to require much patience and unless its a single low valued item, I will in the future pay for the faster service. Then again, this added cost is putting most of CRC wish list into the trash can and will rather get from a local source - not going to hijack your thread but I ordered shifters yesterday before lunch and the courier was at the office this morning with them.
  16. Who needs air when you got OKO ... greq up with permatubes, ok
  17. GO CHRIS!!! Ordered my LX Shifters yesterday, got to work now and my shifters where lying at my desk. Very very very impressive Chris /excitment voice off
  18. Cool, just ordered the shifters ... now I can upgrade to the world of 9spd soon. Excellento price and full marks for your site Chris, was really easy and professional.
  19. Nice. Any chance of a rear derailleur - budget is tite ... budgeted R400 to replace mine on my commuter and I just have to buy these shifters
  20. No true because when I was looking for my first MTB 2,5yrs ago, I thought I could get something for R800 as I always compared to advertised specials I saw from GAME. This is the problem with stolen goods, the buyer may not always be educated on its true value.
  21. CRC also suffers that problem, last year I did not join in on any of the group orders for 6mths as all my wish list items where constantly out of stock.
  22. I haz sudo powerz and hakz the hub to bekum MODERATOR!!!! EDIT: SQL injection is a biatch ... mmmmwwwaaaahhh
  23. Baaaa, no points for sucking up to me
  24. Come on, this is the Hub, we use old fashioned steel stem posts
  25. YES I'M BIASED, A MUTHER GRUNDIE, SUSPICIOUS OF ALL AND DISLIKE ALL /Moderator voice off
