  1. LOL ... I changed my chainset to make sure I could get up the hill.
  2. So my beloved ride is now finally a commuter as thats all I got time for. So I've been spending my money on adding a few odds and ends to make it a better commuter. I got a pannier rack (well actually part of the child seat) I got my pannier bag My little bag that dangles over the topbar for my keys & phone is being collected tomorrow. My mirror is going to be ordered this week. I got a tool set in a cylindrical container that fits into one of the two bottle cages. I got a THE mud catcher. My U-Lock is on order. My Brooks is next on the list. Question is, where does one draw the line? How much pimp is too much pimp? Is it Hubber acceptable to have my bike admired by the local farm workers? I had one garden executive jizz in his pants when he saw my ride last week, he was wrapping off in his muther tongue (I'm too ignorant to learn another language) about how cool my bike is. I will add that fitting a radio to my bike is considered a bit too much pimpage at this stage, but I never know
  3. The technology is easily available, its just the service being supplied thats the new frontier - a guy at work developed a system with GSM trackers last year (personal use) and told me last week that the devices are small enough for bicycle frames.
  4. @berry: Thanks, will we keep this to standard house rules of no clothing or items attracting high duties?
  5. Yeah, I need to order a Bike Eye Mirror for R155 (ex) but my Credit Card still needs to take a pounding before I can do the group order.
  6. I would like to see it as a regional option, CWC & Bucycle are the only real online contenders.
  7. Yeah, I'm heading for a few days off the saddle due to health. Think it will do me only good.
  8. Take2 do free delivery on R350 or more and the price you see is the price you pay - all duties included. What I do though is first check out the item on Amazon US (only look at items coming direct from them) and then lookup the item on Take2. I do at least one purchase a month from them and never a problem.
  9. I have a rear mounted Giant Seat, little Hubber loves it 100% but he is nearly 4. Littlest Hubber she is 5mths and wife is not keen on her riding in the seat. If I had the spare cash, I would guy iBert but I would buy from Take2 (Amazon Portal) and not local due to the price difference: Take2: http://more.take2.co.za/moreusa-ibert-safe-t-front-mounted-child-bicycle-seat-b000h4e7eo.html R1086 incl delivery Bucycle: http://www.buycycle.co.za/buyparts/baby-seats/ibert/ibert-green-safe-t-seat-ibert.html R1499 plus delivery of R75 Thats nearly R500 difference Take2 take 18-20 days but I often buy from the Amazon Portal - actually got a u-lock on order that was R200 cheaper than CRC
  10. Should have also mentioned that my health was going south very fast then, it was not nice. Was one of those obese guys that always made excuses about WHY I could not do exercise (bad knees, bad leg, asthma, etc) and nothing was wrong with me, it was only an extra kg or two I would say but never admit it was more like an extra 30kg. Sure I'm only down 12kg in 2yrs, but I never had any muscle weight then, it was just 100% lard. Will never go back to my old ways and I make sure that my kids don't make my mistake. (Also told wife to start on the treadmill this week again as she has not exercised for 14mths, OK, she did have a little one 5mths back)
  11. My Twitter feed is going ape tonight with Europcar being escorted off the plane due to ticket issue? WTF. Then there is a tweet that Tylar Day is tuck in Jozie and the race organisers are not prepared to give him a lift to a hotel as its not their problem. What the Hell is going on?
  12. I started 2yrs back when I was 34 (stopped doing exercise when I was 15 and was obese). Just about died the first 50m on my new bike, next day had to cycle 4km to work as petrol was killing us and we have one car (and my motorbike was broken due to my fat arse). That was a tough day. My commute to work involves a 150m altitude gain with gradients up to 10' Before I knew it I was fit and enjoying it - now I don't want to get a car and my motorbike is still broken as I just want to cycle.
  13. Use to use as my LBS swears by it, but I had the same problem with the jockey wheels and chainrings. My mistake was I always applies too much and never gave the lube chance to dry (I use to lube before I ride). Personally I want to try Purple Extreme and ChainL
  14. Well to reduce friction you want something to have a high viscosity and thats why the wax works well (its low viscosity in its liquid form). A good synthetic wet lube will also be thick (high) viscosity. But from personal experience I find wet lube lasts 3-5 times longer than dry lube on a chain. Also the other important purpose of your lube is to keep the dirt out, thats why wax works so well and why some thinner, low viscosity wet lubes fail. Actually lab tests show that a lubbed and non-lubbed chain perform identical when clean, but soon as your introduce dirt thats when the wear occurs.
  15. Dry Lube is light viscosity with a mixture of liquids and wax that allow it easily penetrate your inner chain. The liquids evaporate leaving behind the wax. This is why its important that you do it 30 minutes before you ride.
  16. From here and here
  17. Enjoy, Kogelberg is my favourite. Just love the isolation and the awesome beauty.
  18. I like that idea. Currently using black insulation tape
  19. Sits back and waits for flame throwers zealous CRC Hubbers and Local Suppliers
  20. Thanks Chris. EFT done and really great to know that my small donation is actually making a difference.
  21. Cool, thanks. For my 1 bike donation I don't have an issue not being able to nominate a school as I believe all the schools have needy kids. I like initiatives like this as I had a tuff when at high school and evenhad to get a job to stay in school as I had to pay my own way.
  22. Not nice to hear as I went through a stage like that in my life, it was ironic when I got divorced as we had nothing to split up as it had all already been stolen - my ex and I still joke about it.
  23. Any possibility of doing a sponser pool for those of us who are on tight budgets? I will gladly donate R100 today (I will forefit tomorrows Saturday take-aways)
  24. This is awesome! Chris and how will the nominations of needy children be handled once a school has been elected?
  25. I can give you some Dr Phil advice for free if you want: Now how does that make your throat feel?
