  1. That Maxxis combo is almost certainly my next option. Currently enjoying the Citius up front though
  2. Came across this recently. Useful pointers on the ins and outs of tyre design and how to go about making a choice applicable to your riding style
  3. Agreed on the Ibex lacking a bit grip wise, especially in the loose. Occasionally it produces just that small bit of slip when being lent, just enough to bring out the fear jerk response as it feels as if it's letting go and going to slide. It's worse at higher pressure but even when low (I run it at 21 PSI) it still has that slight slip when the surface gets a bit loose. At least that's been my experience. Sweet, the Citius looks like a winner for the front!
  4. Looking for opinions on a new tyre. I am currently running the Ibex (F) Canis ® combo (both 2.25) and recently put a hole into my relatively tired looking Canis. So it's time for a new tyre! I am going to keep the Ibex and my thinking is to put this on the rear and then either get a 2.4 Ibex or Citius for the front. What are the opinions out there? Citius or Ibex? My riding is primarily the trails around Tygerberg and I'm not overly stressed about the drag of the Ibex out back. The alternative is to keep the Ibex on the front and run a Maxxis Aggressor on the rear. Let me know you opinions. Thanks
  5. Something I am kind of interested in, is knowing if those who have been mugged have primarily been on road bikes. I don't have much to go on, but those incidents that I have read about have primarily been of people on road bikes (and by the sounds of it, sometimes lekker race sleds). Do the muggers have lookouts who spot people on road bikes and then alert their cronies further down the path to this? Do people on older mtbs and dedicated commuters "get lucky" because they actually are riding something with perceived low value? Not that knowing this would solve anything, but I think it interesting nonetheless.
  6. Can't help but have this song in my head when I cycle through the area now... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yK0P1Bk8Cx4 Edit: Clearly don't know how to embed a video
  7. Sometimes wish I was completely ignorant of all this and I could just be amped that there is a dedicated path to commute by bicycle on, away from all the mad traffic. Wouldn't that be nice...
  8. Let me get this straight...CToC invests millions in building a cycle path to offer a "safe" alternative mode of transport into the City and its surrounds. The cycle path then becomes a hotspot for muggings (in one area) and a crack down has never truly worked since nothing has changed over many years. The solution to all this is to close the path and call it unsafe?! I appreciate resources are stretched but applying this logic elsewhere would suggest that Metrorail's solution to the vandalism and muggings on trains is to close the service as it is "unsafe". I realise this is an extreme example but perhaps you get my drift as this really is logistically not possible. Why suggest removing a legitimate form of transport for those, who perhaps form a minority, because crime cannot be controlled? If recommending that the path be avoided then provide an alternative at the same time, don't just "close" it and say 'pffft, good luck in finding a way into town by bicycle now'. This whole thing makes me bleak. Alternatives besides the cycle path are few and far between for me and while I try meet up with other groups (such as Hairy's), I don't often manage to sync with them so I end up solo. I wish the only challenge on the cycle path was the south easter. This is lame and frustrating
  9. I would think 100mm would be too little unfortunately. It would mess with the bike's geometry. 120mm-140mm is where you want to be
  10. Haven't kept tabs on this thread so totally missed your post. Even though this is way late, it looks like you needed to print this plate
  11. In case anyone wants to make use of it, I can send you the 3D file I put together for the FD cover plate (added a pic of what it looks like). I used online software to create it (TinkerCAD) and am by no means a pro in this area but what I designed worked for me. The file is .obj format. If I recall, it fits a M6 countersunk screw (think it was 15mm long) I can't attach the 3D file here but can email it to you, so PM me if interested.
  12. Out of interest, do you store your bike with the post lowered or extended? Not sure if there is much value in it, but read that keeping the post in the lowered position for extended periods of time can place strain on the seals given the increased pressure
  13. Can also look at the maxxis highroller2 up front and aggressor on the rear. Heard good things about the combo
  14. Wondered if you had seen this Hairy. Rode past it as well, although I didn't stop to chat to the PO. Guess we need to be even more vigilant if this is what can go down of the cycle path...hefty
  15. Anyone know if the Maxxis Minion SS is available locally yet? That with the HR II looks like it could be a winning combo
  16. Reference to DSTV in this thread are 2011 costs...this thread wasn't exactly started this year
  17. You mean to tell me Silverback have moved away from the one and only best way to mount a rear shock?!?!

With Shimano Saints, does anyone keep the washers that shorten pin length in place? Or do you run the pins sans washers to extend pin length? Guessing it is largely up to personal preference, just interested to know what the preferences are
  19. Not sure about Pretoria, but you can certainly have the option of getting them online http://www.sportsworld.co.za/category.php?id_category=274 Or just make your own... https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/132334-making-a-fender-for-your-mtb/page-1?hl=marsh%20guard

While most signs are pointing toward the Saints as one of the better options to pursue, are there any opinions on Da Bomb pedals? http://www.dabomb.co.za/productcategory/pedals Can't find out much about them on the interwebs, apart from what the manufacturer has to say (not that I have trawled extensively).

Came across superstar nano-x pedals in my search for wider platform optionshttp://www.superstarcomponents.com/en/nano-x-pedals.htm While the price for the pedals alone seems reasonable, the shipping cost is crazy high! Even if it is through UPS the asking price of 96GBP would need a team effort to make it appealing.

Cool, shot for the input. Was considering these as an option as well. Will check them out
