  3. A colleague of mine was bike-jacked some time last year on his ride out of Giba Gorge, but since then the cops tracked down the bliksems and arrested them, and the bike was recovered.. I also beleive the 'riding route' to and out of Giba has been closed since a few months ago, forcing people to drive to the bmx/mtb park and pay the normal enterance fee as Giba was losing a bit of profit from people riding in and out.. so as far as I know Giba Gorge is a safe place to ride, especially since they've added more security guards in and around the park. Another place of concern is the Kenneth Steynbank Nature Reserve, as rumor has it there have been quite a few bike-jackings going on, even in group rides.
  4. I don't know if this is a stupid question but can electricity travel through aluminium?? and if so how well does it travel through the metal.. maybe if there was a device you could hook up to your bike that, if or when somebody's been bike-jacked, you could shock the person stealing the bike (via remote control), but it would have to be a big kick, big enough to drop the guy (not kill him, just stun him so that you've got enough time to ride off).. as for people with carbon bikes I don't know. 6. Fruitloop got abducted by aliens, hence the alien avatar, GTfan took hold of Fruitloops body and changed him into a little green, big eyed alien, who now rides a GT. Jokes aside, changed my hub name cos 'Fruitloop' was just getting old and it sounded a bit cheesy after a while.
  7. Jeez dude, bad is not the word.. when you fully recover maybe think about trying mtb, more dirty but not as dangerous.

Speeding bakkie hits cyclist2010-04-30 10:43 Related Links Anger as another cyclist killed Cyclist dies in hit-and-run kalahari.net Johannesburg Johannesburg: The elusive metropolis is a pioneering effort to insert South Africa's largest city... Was R220.00 Now R204.60 buy now Wolfram Zwecker, Beeld Johannesburg - A cyclist has a cracked skull, broken arm and a cracked dorsal vertebra, after he collided head-on with a bakkie on Monday afternoon. Damian Wasowick, 30, from Edenglen in Edenvale, was cycling with his brothers Waldek and Adrian along the popular Suikerbosrand route when the accident happened. Waldek said the cracked skull was their main concern. "If everything goes well, they will start with the first of a series of operations on Friday afternoon," he said on Thursday. "We went cycling there because it was supposed to be safe. And then came this man, an employee of the reserve who knew of the one-way route, at one hell of a speed in the wrong direction and nearly killed all three of us." Speeding "My bicycle computer showed that we were cycling at 15km/h when the bakkie came speeding along. He brushed past me and hit Damian head-on." "Due to the enormous impact of the collision, Damian was hurled against the front window, then over the single cabin's roof and into the back," said Waldek. The driver at first refused to do anything, saying he was waiting for the police. "Meanwhile my brother lay unconscious and bleeding. I made Adrian sit at the back to check that Damian was breathing and raced to the Suikerbosrand Protea Hotel to get help. There was no first aid kit, and no one who had numbers of emergency services or ambulances." Damian was later taken by helicopter to the Union Hospital in Alberton. Consulting lawyer Waldek consulted a lawyer about their options on Wednesday. "It was a public one-way road. There are speed limits, we paid to enter, a person would be able to expect that employees would adhere to the rules of the road and that provision would be made for first aid should someone get hurt. And then it happens. Apparently it is the umpteenth accident in the reserve over the past few months." Police officers were on the scene on Monday evening and were investigating the case, said Captain Thivhulawi Tshilate of the Heidelberg police. - Beeld Fruitloop2010-04-30 07:01:50

  17. Julius Malema receives a coded message from a farmer. It reads "S30d - 0773H". Julius was stunned. He called the Youth League, CIA and the FBI but not 1 could crack the code. Finally he calls Koos vd Merwe of the Intelligence Unit. Koos's reply was quick and to the point... "You're holding the paper upside down!"

  20. I'd give my opinion on Malema but then I'd get into a lot of trouble, so I'll just keep quiet on the matter
  21. The only dumbass thing I've done on a mtb is on my way to work sometimes when I used to ride very slowly behind some "locals" on the foot paths and give them a fright (by shouting "Ayoba!!!!") or something like that, but the reaction I got from them was actually quite funny.
