  1. 'Tours, whether my use of 'cow flesh' is triggering is dependent on the reader. I prefer to not use euphemisms on this thread. It's not meant to be aggravating, it's just in line with the fact that I don't want to perpetuate such euphemisms such as 'beef', 'pork', etc. I choose to refer to the animal and not the commodity it's turned into. I hope that you can understand it from my point of view. Listen, I'm not saying that the BB is the saviour of the food system, but it's clear that it has advantages in compared with traditional animal based products. Would I recommend basing your diet around those types of products? No. There's healthier options, but I can't make people choose it. And you're right, it is expensive at the moment. It's still a niche import. There's a possibility they can drive the price down once they have a Euro production facility. I've never heard of claims that BB claiming to funds junk studies. Like the study I posted earlier, there was no nefarious funding - you can see for yourself. Whenever I post a study, feel free to read up on the funding/conflicts.
  2. CBM and MCU fans. Join me in solemnly bowing our heads in despair. Spider-Man is exiting the MCU! https://www.cnet.com/news/spider-man-fans-are-extremely-upset-about-him-possibly-leaving-the-mcu/ I feel more upset about this than I reasonably should.
  3. Never heard of the podcast. Will give it a bash. Just my quick 2c. Everything we're doing nowadays is modeled towards convenience, particularly food. That vegan food was going to get caught up in that was inevitable. I also understand why some companies like Impossible Foods and Beyond Meats have taken the path they have. If they can replace the suppliers of minced up cow flesh to McDonalds and the like, not only would it be lucrative, but have a better outcome from an animal rights and environmental aspect. That being said, veganism doesn't advocate a specific diet type or pattern. Just not one reliant on the exploitation of animals. My personal opinion is that the best diet is one centered around a diversity of whole plant foods. However, asking a junk food addicted person to immediately switch to clean fruits and veg is usually a big ask. So, if the 'less healthy' vegan foods can help the transition, then have at it. At the end of the day, there's a hell of a lot of people that don't give two shites about their health or what they put in their bodies. If they can be lured into better, slightly healthier options, all the better I guess.
  4. New publication is Scientific Reports (Nature) Haven't read it yet, but seems interesting. Will reserve comments until I've had the time to work through it. Environmentally Optimal, Nutritionally Sound, Protein and Energy Conserving Plant Based Alternatives to U.S. Meat https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-019-46590-1?fbclid=IwAR0Z7hhGSpZ8iYDbIcXvzGXhSJDYM5BpwNt_s1IhzJ7yMa4TmLLtbiZeAIo
  5. Something that really gets on my wife's nerves is when I 'over analyze' a film. Personally, I don't mind a film that has an insane plot or premise, but when it sets up its own 'rules', they better damn well respect that. Pointing that out to my wife usually just elicits a low groan and 'it's just a movie'. Case in point: early seasons GoT made it cleat that travelling from the North to South was a hella long trip, took time and was not easy to do. Season 8 rolls around and all of a sudden everyone can just quickly travel the length and breadth of Westeros if the plot requires it. Respect your own rules!
  6. Always manage your expectations when rewatching movies from your youth. Watched Jaws the other day. Surely great for the time, but have a look at the wiki page and see how critics get up into their own ass discussing characters/themes/whatever. It's a movie about a killer shark who has to be killed to protect the reputation of the town and the townsfolk itself! That's it.
  7. For anyone looking for some inspiration: https://chooseveg.com/blog/30-vegan-dinners-in-30-minutes-or-less/?fbclid=IwAR0ZB8UbwksaFFL325mgoqUMRfY_aapiugcxowkN4Z7Q525l3c8Y8Q2BmQE
  8. I’m sure Ben’s a top bloke. Enjoy.
  9. Patch, are you joining the Official Animal Rights March in London? It’s tomorrow 12PM at Achilles Way.
  10. It is and that’s what this thread is for. Discourse.
  11. If you want to defend the double standard you’re applying, so be it. You’ll get your hackles up and claim it’s not helpful if I were to go to any thread and joke about meat eaters, but when you join in having a crack at vegans ‘it’s just a joke, bro’. I’m not sensitive and can take a joke, but there’s a point where it turns into a malicious feedback loop.
  12. No. That’s not what I meant.
  13. Yet you condemn one and participate in the other.
  14. If animal exploitation was only regarding ethics, it would be one thing. However, there’s more and more research showing us that the same exploitation has major environmental and health consequences. We’re hearing the same message from different sources for different reasons.
  15. Forkie, I’m quite sure I’m included in the group you’re alluding to. I’m also quite certain I actually at one point even offered an apology. For those that haven’t noticed, I’ve kept my vegan posts to this thread (no, my post on the hunting thread had nothing to do with veganism) and have not made snooty religious remarks in a long time.
  16. Well, if you’re claiming I’m going about it the wrong way, then that’s what you’re saying. Irrespective, if you believe others do a better job, then so be it.
  17. Are you implying that you know the ‘right way’ to go about this?
  18. This ties nicely into the Vanzweel (?) running challenge. He never posted a single thing about that on the hub. Shebeen actually went to the oke’s blog, read about it and posted it here. We all know how it went from there.
  19. I’m think it’s more the fact that veganism, more than other topics, elicit high levels of cognitive dissonance.
  20. This is a good one!
  21. It’s ironic in that the vegan trope of “how do you know someone is vegan...” is being repurposed on here to “how do you know someone is triggered by veganism”, as it is constantly being brought up on random threads by non-vegans. It’s not helpful and it’s unnecessary.
  22. Regarding the vegan bashing of late on the hub, I think it’s concerning. Even if it’s just done as a joke, it has the ability to engender, perpetuate and enforce stereotyping of a diverse community of people. Like I’ve said before, it’s a common technique - taint the messenger and you taint the message. I can take a joke, but some people can’t separate something said in jest with reality. I think a lot of it is also down to how pervasive and pressing the need for a move away animal exploitation is becoming.
  23. So how was the threesome with your neighbor Koos?
  24. Milkman, the land/food security question you raised was actually addressed in the latest IPCC report. They postulate that in a vegan world with a population of ~9 billion people, adequate food production with less land than what is currently used. I’ll try and find the exact quote, but navigating that report on an iPhone is an absolute shitshow.
