  1. Kind of what I thought. That point where you're past the 'easy' half and starting to fatigue, but don't yet have the mental pull of the 10km countdown you can rely on.
  2. To the experienced marathoners, at which point during a race is it typical to hit the wall? I know this differs wildly and is dependent on a whole host of factors, but in your experience, when has that happened to you? Somewhere in the mid- to deep 30's?

  4. There's an analogy I can make here to answer that question, but I think it's a bit, inappropriate. The mechanism is around carnitine and creatine. These are non-essential compounds (i.e. your body produces what it needs), but can also be ingested via a number of foods and are highly concentrated in animal products. So, when you eat a diet heavy in those 'foods', your body down regulates production of those compounds. Go plant-based in a short period of time and your body takes a while to get the regulation back to where it needs to be and can result in 'meat cravings'.
  5. I've seen some vegans who claim that they can't eat stuff like Beyond Burgers because it's too realistic and, personally, that's fine. I've also seen vegans who say they still crave animal flesh (oftentimes there's a biological mechanism at play). At the end of the day, veganism isn't about vegans and taste preferences. It's about every person understanding the injustices being committed against animals and nature and deciding to not participate therein.
  6. Let's unpack this. The use of the word 'corpse' was intentional in the context of the discussion, i.e. to draw attention to the plethora of euphemisms in common parlance surrounding animal products. The overwhelming majority of vegans today are ex-omnivores. Those folks, myself included, didn't wake up one morning and found the taste/smell of animal flesh disgusting. Rather, it was waking up to the knowledge that the unnecessary systemic exploitation, enslavement and slaughter of animals is morally repugnant. Thus, if one can have a meal that tastes and smells the same as one containing animal product, but without having to have someone jab a knife in a restrained animal's throat, then why not? My understanding of where a 'steak' comes from disgusts me, hence I find the smell and sight of it off-putting, but it doesn't mean I'm some cry-baby about it. My day is littered with the sights and smell of dead animals, but you do what you've got to do.
  7. Where was a gross factor mentioned?
  8. 'Cause they'd like to lure people away from eating corpses to their products and familiarity in regards to taste, texture, food type ingredient, are all important in positioning the products. It's that simple.
  9. "[insert plant base here] drink". So, soy drink, almond drink, etc.
  10. No person with a functioning brain stem has ever bought a veggie patty thinking it's ground up animal flesh or bought a carton of soy milk thinking it's cow lactation. The EU has banned the labeling of plant milks as 'milk' for years now and guess what, the plant milk market share keeps on growing. This is actually flattering to the plant-based producers, because it shows how serious big (animal) ag takes the rise of plant-based diets and how they're using their dollars and influence to fund these bills and lobbying actions.
  11. No need to be coy. These okes are batshit crazy roadkill chomping flat-earthers.

  13. Pro-meat protesters fined for eating raw squirrels at vegan stallPair ate fur-covered dead animals in front of children in London despite pleas to stop Press Association Gatis Lagzdins was asked by onlookers to stop eating the squirrel but continued, the CPS said. Photograph: central/Central News Two pro-meat protesters have been fined after eating raw squirrels at a food market. Deonisy Khlebnikov, 22, and Gatis Lagzdins, 29, ate the still fur-covered dead animals in front of members of the public, including young children, outside a vegan stall in Soho, the West End of London. The pair were asked to stop by onlookers, including the parent of an upset child, but continued their protest at the Soho vegan food market in Rupert Street on 30 March, the Crown Prosecution Service said. They were found guilty of a public order offence at City of London magistrates court on Monday. Natalie Clines, a senior CPS prosecutor, said: “Deonisy Khlebnikov and Gatis Lagzdins claimed they were against veganism and were raising awareness about the dangers of not eating meat when they publicly consumed raw squirrels. “But by choosing to do this outside a vegan food stall and continuing with their disgusting and unnecessary behaviour despite requests to stop, including from a parent whose child was upset by their actions, the prosecution was able to demonstrate that they had planned and intended to cause distress to the public. Leave grey squirrels and all animals alone | Letters Read more“Their premeditated actions caused significant distress to members of the public, including young children.” The pair denied using disorderly behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress at a trial but were both convicted. Khlebnikov, from Westminster, was fined £200 plus costs and a surcharge, while Lagzdins, from Ealing in west London, who did not attend the hearing, was fined £400 plus costs and a surcharge.
  14. So, to the rock fans on here, what are your thoughts and opinions on the wave of 'revivalist' rock bands of the past couple of years? Harbingers of a new wave of mainstream rock or just recycling ideas and songs that other bands put out decades ago. For reference, I'm referring to bands such as: https://youtu.be/rCP7K6aBNYU https://youtu.be/j2IyX5LXGyg https://youtu.be/86_vnQc1oBE

  19. This morning was a moving time of 46:06, but an elapsed time of 47:46. So that 1:40 is obviously from stopping to take my jacket off. Strava 10k PR still sits at 47:27
  20. Could be that. Stopped at the 4km to take my jacket off and tie it around my waist. Guess Strava knew there'd be okes taking 'breathers' during a run to score a new PR.
  21. It's a bit confusing, but Strava gives you both PRs and Estimated Best Efforts. From the link:
  22. Anyone know what's up with Strava and how it assigns PR's? This morning I ran a PR 10km, but Strava tells me it's my 3rd best, with the PR it's giving me as 1.5min slower than my run this morning. Does not compute! Edit: Nevermind. Seems it pulls PR's from race runs. If you want to update a specific PR, you have to do a manual entry. https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/articles/216918487-All-Time-PRs
