  1. Seen the ads and trailers. Haven’t watched it yet. The same empathy and compassion that we feel towards those rhinos, we need to collectively extend to all the animals, particularly the ones we put on our plates and on our backs. All animals, irrespective of their conservation status, deserve basic moral consideration. Their lives and freedom are not ours to take. ????
  2. Shhhh! Don't tempt me.
  3. I really, really want a 945, but recently had my 735Xt replaced under warranty, so can't justify an upgrade.
  4. That’s one seriously angry hairdresser!
  5. That's actually a good idea. I used to hate rye and the really proper wholewheat breads, but nowadays I love it. They're also usually quite calorically dense, so you only need to eat a slice or two to get a lekker fiber/protein/carb hit.
  6. For years I drank protein shakes for breakfast, also because it was just quick to prep. So, I've put kg's and kg's of garbage like USN through my body. Lately, I still do protein smoothies, but a fair bit different. I usually run on most mornings, so after the fasted run, I make a smoothie with the following: 1-2 bananas; 1 tbsp ground flax 1 tbsp hulled hemp seeds 1 tbsp chia seeds 1 tsp cocoa 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1 fistful of spinach ~1 cup of frozen blueberries 3 ice cubes Splash of plant milk ~1 cup of water ~35g of rice, soya or pea protein (I use these: https://purasana.com/vegan-proteine-poeder/vegan-protein-pea-naturel) [Edit: forgot to add] 3 heaped tbsp of homemade oatmeal (basically take whole rolled oats, chuck it in the food processor for half a minute and then it works nicely in smoothies) Will see what I'll be doing in the winter, as a icy smoothie really brings the core temp down. Another option is to do overnight oats, which is just basically soaking oats in some plant milk/water and then it's ready to eat the next morning.
  7. How active are you? 1700 calories is not a whole lot, especially if you're moderately active. You could replace the bacon and eggs with something like loaded oats and you can have a more satiating meal that'll also reduce the saturated fats you're getting in. Keep in mind that it's not just a number's game in terms of calories in and out. A diet with high amounts of processed foods will lead to excessive weight gain, even if you match macros, fiber, sodium, salt, etc. when compared to an unprocessed diet. Abstract We investigated whether ultra-processed foods affect energy intake in 20 weight-stable adults, aged (mean ± SE) 31.2 ± 1.6 years and BMI = 27 ± 1.5 kg/m2. Subjects were admitted to the NIH Clinical Center and randomized to receive either ultra-processed or unprocessed diets for 2 weeks immediately followed by the alternate diet for 2 weeks. Meals were designed to be matched for presented calories, energy density, macronutrients, sugar, sodium, and fiber. Subjects were instructed to consume as much or as little as desired. Energy intake was greater during the ultra-processed diet (508 ± 106 kcal/day; p = 0.0001), with increased consumption of carbohydrate (280 ± 54 kcal/day; p < 0.0001) and fat (230 ± 53 kcal/day; p = 0.0004), but not protein (-2 ± 12 kcal/day; p = 0.85). Weight changes were highly correlated with energy intake (r = 0.8, p < 0.0001), with participants gaining 0.9 ± 0.3 kg (p = 0.009) during the ultra-processed diet and losing 0.9 ± 0.3 kg (p = 0.007) during the unprocessed diet. Limiting consumption of ultra-processed foods may be an effective strategy for obesity prevention and treatment. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31105044 If you want to see what the study participants were eating: https://www.cell.com/cms/10.1016/j.cmet.2019.05.008/attachment/f7d43756-3f67-4557-8322-59a9d143d63c/mmc1.pdf
  8. You've made an untenable interpretation of the data, which undermines your argument. Fact is, in SA, white folks historically and presently have higher income, better access to legal representation and are less likely to be convicted of charges. I've seen this first hand as a former prosecutor. Also, people in prison ≠ people convicted of crimes (i.e. people who receive fines and/or suspended sentences).
  9. This thread is like a extreme left's wet dream: Profiling on ethnicity: racism! Profiling on economic status: classist! Profiling on walking a bike: ableism! Ten hub-points to each 'ism' added to this list.
  10. True. I think the big question is whether he can come back and match the might of those Frenchies.
  11. There was a time when AG couldn't put a tyre wrong when the clock started ticking. The past year and his final races with YT were all comparative train smashes. He's just completely off-form.
  12. Not sure. He's apparently team owner or manager, so I'm assuming he won't drop them just in 2020 (but never say never). Frankly, I won't be surprised if either Mullaly or Moir or both get dumped.
  13. On the odd occassion that the weather allows, we'll do a very veggie heavy braai: scorched butternut, zucchini, peppers, potatoes, sweet potatoes, etc. If we decide on a meat replacement type thing, we'll either go for something like that seitan I linked or a Incredible Burger. Thing is with seitan is that it has a low moisture content and is pre-cooked, so throwing it on a scorching hot braai is going to end in tears. You need to use a cool fire and not overcook it. Thing about that Bertyn seitan is that it's pre-marinated, so it's nice and juicy once cooked. There's a SA brand, Herbi-Vohr, that make interesting looking stuff, but I haven't tried it yet. I suspect it's also seitan-based, so might not be your thing.
  14. From my understanding, gluten sensitivity is a real thing, so it could definitely have an effect. I've also read that many folks who have IBS or other digestive issues (which worsens responses to gluten), actually also have SIBO. So, perhaps that's something to look at (but take this as a WebMD symptom search result - "It's brain cancer!"). Personally, I love seitan, but proper seitan and not gluten loaded mock meats. We eat this about once a week and it's great: https://www.bertyn.eu/en/product/veggie-protein-steak-wheat/ There's a lot of garbage meat replacers (IMHO), so I try to minimize those and focus on whole foods.
  15. Have to really work out your mouse scrolling finger to get to AG's result...
  16. Moved it here to not derail the F1 thread. My question is this: if it were moral and natural to exploit animals they way that we do, why then the need to censor and hide it? We feed our children burgers and steak, but balk at the idea of showing them what goes into getting that piece of 'meat' on their plate? You wouldn't take issue with your kid watching strawberries being picked, but take issue with a common way in which cows are slaughtered.
  17. "Fighting it's awareness and prevention"? You want to fight the prevention and awareness of rape? I'm assuming you forgot "for". Do you think that the first step in the fight is not to participate in that which you want to fight against and raise awareness? Also keep in mind that you and your lad chose to click on 'Uncover Video'. It's not Instagram's fault.
