  1. Is this a general statement or a reply to the video?
  2. I implore everyone to take 18min out of their day and watch this video: https://youtu.be/ao2GL3NAWQU It's not necessarily graphic, but rather very informative.
  3. I've tried on a few occasions to get into Breaking Bad, but it just never stuck with me. Will maybe try again.
  4. Watched about 2/3 of John Wick. Can't be arsed about the rest. I can appreciate the choreography and whatnot, but the plot is paper thin (was there ever any real plot in the JW-verse?) and one can only watch so many CGI head shots before checking out.
  5. And Trump didn't even bother to attend the meeting on the climate crisis and the Amazon fires: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/aug/26/donald-trump-skips-g7-talks-on-climate-crisis-and-amazon-fires
  6. I get the sense you're being purposefully obtuse to get a reaction, but please don't twist my words.
  7. That's good to hear, RB. What was the trigger for you to make the change? Regarding the milk and eggs, do you then eat vegan outside of the house (i.e. travelling, restaurants, over at family and friends, etc.)?
  8. It's also the disassociation. You can just be outraged about what's happening in the Amazon. You don't need to do anything. However, if you want to apply that same concern to other animals, irrespective of their locale or species, you'll need to take action. Thus, stop eating animals. That turns into a very different proposition.
  9. Would like to hear some opinions: can capitalism help create a vegan world or are corporations, built on animal exploitation, simply and cynically cashing in on the vegan boom to bolster their bottom line? https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/vegan-fashion-taylor-swift-burger-king-kfc-ethical-consumerism-a9073361.html?fbclid=IwAR0DJg2-dMEgTDngwRHaoQXHLocy1cSXQt37GK15m2AcJOMMLuwQ17gMgL4
  10. What a time to be alive, né Patch? https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/food-and-drink/greggs-vegan-sausage-roll-steak-bake-doughnut-a9076246.html
  11. Riding e-bikes on a moto track. SMH.
  12. Tours, put your arguments in the human context and see how you view them. 'Are slaves by definition suffering...' If you reject those arguments, then you agree with veganism. Why? Because animals are just like us in all the ways that matter. They desire to be with their own kind. To have freedom of movement. To be free from pain. To have and raise their young. Our exploitation deprives them of those basic freedoms. For a long time people exploited slaves in the same way that we now exploit animals. We deprived them of basic freedoms and justice to serve our selfish needs (this goes beyond just the food system). And I disagree with your last point. Veganism does and will change the world. Perhaps not in the way that many people think and perhaps it will still take a considerable time, but it will.
  13. Tours, you're right about your first distinction between vegans and vegetarians. Where I'll disagree with you is the claims as to vegans believing non-vegans are 'bad people'. Not being vegan doesn't make you a bad person in the same way that being a vegan doesn't make you a good person. Where I think many vegans take issue is when people are made aware of the suffering of the animals and the planet and still shrug it off or deny it. Still, that doesn't make you a 'bad person', but we, collectively and individually, have to take action where and when we can in the face of injustice. Adopting a vegan lifestyle is one of those ways to take action.
  14. Funny you mention the slower running - virtually the only time when I'll start to get aches and pains is when I run with my wife at her pace.
  15. Eish. Okay. Downgrade it is. Will have a chilled run with the wifey then.
  16. Oh, crap! Forgot to mention. I'll actually be running the Brussels marathon too. That's 2 weeks before Amsterdam. Just aiming for an easy finish. Basically a long training run. A fool's errand? Too close to AMS? Could always downgrade to the half.
  17. Yip. I absolutely shat the bed last year with the half. Did no slow base building and went full gas at the start and paid a heavy price. So, want to do things right this year. The quick walk at the tables seem sensible. So pumped, but also scared! Ha!

  19. It's the Amsterdam marathon. 58 days and counting! Eeek! I'm targeting around 03h30, but I'm not sure whether that may be too ambitious. I'm still a fresh runner (<2 years) and haven't run a marathon yet. Maintaining a pace of 5:00min/km isn't that tough for me know and I've run below that for halves. Whether I'll be ready for that kind of pace for the full distance is what I'm working towards. I'm thinking of perhaps working in a 500m/1km walk somewhere around the 28-32km mark to give the ticker a rest. Advisable? Getting butterflies just typing this out...
  20. A question, if you'll induldge me. I have a marathon coming up and want to put in a good time. So, I've been doing more higher intensity runs lately, which takes me out of my aerobic HR zone. I still do long, slow runs over the weekends. Is there a risk that I'll be compromising my endurance by doing too much anaerobic-ish running?
  21. I read Frosty's posts and sometimes wonder "Should I also be doing this kind of analyses?!"
  22. I'm triggered by the fact that you assume my gender. Kidding aside, the intent is clear. Not to use comforting euphemisms. I stated that clearly in my post to Tours.
  23. RB, I mean this sincerely, have you taken the time to reflect on why it is that vegans advocate?
  24. I think that Twitterer/Tweeter (?) relied on this article for his investigation: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20071112005684/en/Generation-Investment-Management-Kleiner-Perkins-Caufield-Byers My main issue with this twitter thread is the claims that a) all climate related animal consumption studies originate from the WRI (which is false) and 2) that the information studies are therefore inaccurate/misleading. I share your enthusiastic skepticism, but there's just too much of the same findings coming from unrelated sources too support a claim that it's just 'industry funded garbage'.
