  1. Nice. I would like to see something in action and hear from someone who has done it before taking the plunge. I mean look at the options. Even if I have to buy a makro bike to do the conversion it would still be worthwhile.
  2. Well then it would be prefect for you. With pedaling and motor you could probably get it down to an hour each way.
  3. Thats why I love my sh!tmano dura-ace. I can trim quite a bit on the front. On both chainrings I can trim the FD right when I need to. I think that sram can trim though..... maybe not the entry level, but I remember my bud (Headhunter) with his red saying that he can trim on that.
  4. A few months ago I saw a ad in the popular mechanics magazine for a motor (kit) that you can stick on your bicycle that you can use at selected times when you dont feel like pedaling. It was only R1500 for the whole thing, fits on a standard frame that supports V-Brakes. A cheap motorbike/scooter is only 5K nowdays, but you still need to get a license for it and you dont have the pedals for when you do want to do some extra work. Anything under 50cc you dont need a license which is pretty cool. I commute alot and I am fortunate enough to have a shower where I work now so normal bike and I am sorted. But there is the occasion where I may need to go somewhere else where there may not be showers etc, then I am faced with a problem. If I had a motor-bicycle, I could motor there in cycling clothes etc, just light pedaling to keep the frostbite off and then no need for a shower. I would then be able to pedal home afterwards so that I could still get the workout. Anyone here doing anything like this? I wonder what other options there are. Especially with electric bikes becoming more advanced now as well that may even be a route worthwhile exploring. Only thing I dont like about some of the electric things they have out there at the moment is that most of them have pretty stupid speed limits built in. Like 25km/h or something. Im better off just pedaling then rather. The small petrol kit will get you to about 60 with the chainring they give you. A smaller chainring on the back will give you a bit more but then climbing hills may not work as well. So, ideas? Has anyone done anything like this? I almost dont really want to go across to the motorbike world incase I dont come back, but if I can keep some pedals on there I think I wont drift astray!
  5. His chain may be on the shorter side then as well. But also remember the difference between the gearing is really big on the compact, so there is a really big jump that the bike needs to try and do in one go. But yes, try put the chain back on. It is not a bad practice to try to ride more in the smaller ring, you will need to trim to the right when you are halfway through the cassette else you may get rub on your FD, but lately I have been trying to ride through most of my small ring gears and then only shift up and it seems to work well. Remember on the 50/34 the jump is so big that as you shift up in the front, as soon as the gear has taken you will generally always drop like two gears at the back otherwise your cadence is going to drop from like 90 to 50 in one go.
  6. Interesting. I have just realised that my shifting has also got slightly harder when going into the big ring now. Also compact 34/50. I just bought two YBN hollowpins from Planet-X on special to do the whole rotation vibe. Noticed the other day that it was taking longer to engage the big ring. Sometimes it is perfect, but sometimes it does just seem to take a while. mmmm....
  7. They were chatting about it on another thread as well. Time to go tubeless
  8. Awesome Looks like I am going to have to start racing again then
  9. hhmm.... It never used to be free. I remember something about R250 in the past. Interesting. Yup, vitality. I am def going to register now. Pity I cant use my old results. Or can I?
  10. Ok, cool. So does it all work out in the end cost wise etc?
  11. Massages ?
  12. That cracks me up!!!
  13. haha, I will give them a sportypal link......
  14. Well if that is the case, can you input some of your training rides if you can upload your own event? how do you then validate the data if you dont have a polar? I dont have a polar either, but I could record my rides with gps and get a gpx file of it.
  15. So what do I have to do to maximize my familys points then? I signed up for medical savings now this year and I am led to believe that if your buy healthyfoods and if the money goes onto your MS you can get up to 75% back compared to like 12 or something when it goes into your card. Obviously the above does work out better if your points are maxed out. So whats the secret then man? Share some tips
  16. Looks good! Just watch out, if you are commuting with your bag on your back on a road bike (lower angle of your body) your bag hides the lights.
  17. Oh yes. We got batteries from okhobby.com Make sure if you buy lipo that you buy a charging bag. Lots of people have burnt their houses down from exploding lipos
  18. It makes sense to use the XM's for the efficiency. Dont drive them hard at full power - unless as you say you want one spot or unless you have a wide lens on it. But rather chuck a couple in a row and then you can run for longer of the same battery pack with the same brightness. Also at a lower power they generate less heat than the XPG's. My light gets super super hot even on the low setting if I am not moving around.
  19. I would love those cranks!!
  20. I dunno, because I spend freaking hours on them at home and then they still only work half the time.
  21. hmmmm.....
  22. That road is unsafe at the best of times. So if you are going to do it make sure that you are rather in a bunch of cyclists so that the car can make a decent roadkill, I mean so that you will be more visible. I will not go up there alone, even if it is quiet.
  23. Dont worry. When my wife starts moaning about the cyclists I just have to hold my mouth too. I commute and ride alot, and unless she was in our shoes they will never understand. The general mindset of alot of motorists in this country is wrong. And they almost need a big wakeup call such as if you hit a cyclist on the road, not even kill them, but just driving into them, they should go straight to jail and ask questions later.
  24. Here is the old thread. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/61484-patching-tubes/page__hl__tube
  25. Difficult. But if you spend lots of time on it you can make a decent repair. I posted a thread maybe a year ago because I was pulling my hair out. A few good fellers here gave me the whole long rundown of the right way to get it done. But you can forget about patching on the road. A successful patch takes time, dryness, and some pressure overnight pretty much to make it work nicely.
