  1. It makes sense to use the XM's for the efficiency. Dont drive them hard at full power - unless as you say you want one spot or unless you have a wide lens on it. But rather chuck a couple in a row and then you can run for longer of the same battery pack with the same brightness. Also at a lower power they generate less heat than the XPG's. My light gets super super hot even on the low setting if I am not moving around.
  2. I would love those cranks!!
  3. I dunno, because I spend freaking hours on them at home and then they still only work half the time.
  4. hmmmm.....
  5. That road is unsafe at the best of times. So if you are going to do it make sure that you are rather in a bunch of cyclists so that the car can make a decent roadkill, I mean so that you will be more visible. I will not go up there alone, even if it is quiet.
  6. Dont worry. When my wife starts moaning about the cyclists I just have to hold my mouth too. I commute and ride alot, and unless she was in our shoes they will never understand. The general mindset of alot of motorists in this country is wrong. And they almost need a big wakeup call such as if you hit a cyclist on the road, not even kill them, but just driving into them, they should go straight to jail and ask questions later.
  7. Here is the old thread. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/61484-patching-tubes/page__hl__tube
  8. Difficult. But if you spend lots of time on it you can make a decent repair. I posted a thread maybe a year ago because I was pulling my hair out. A few good fellers here gave me the whole long rundown of the right way to get it done. But you can forget about patching on the road. A successful patch takes time, dryness, and some pressure overnight pretty much to make it work nicely.
  9. Just waiting for my tubeless road tyres to arrive. Then I dont have to worry about those little buggers. I dont commute down that way, but those dreaded green patches line my whole way to work (koeberg, plattekloof rd) Right now they are a problem, but as soon as the patches dry out and dry and the wind gets a hold of the duiwels, then there is going to be a even bigger problem. I dont know if it is just me, but the duiwels dont seem to be as bad as they used to be a few years ago. I remember growing up crossing blouberg road. A few times the bastards were so long that they would go all the through my flip flops into my feet. Hard to believe, but my first car got a flat wheel from duiweltjies. My dad didnt believe it until the tyre guys should him how some of them had managed to go right through. Crazy!
  10. Also a shim fan. So what was a pretty groupset for you then. I thought that the 7900 crank looks better than the 7800...... Would you prefer more carbon?
  11. The middle plastic part in the middle of the BB. Really important to drown that with heaps of the greasy stuff.
  12. Wow, I could probably save in the region of like 400grams by moving to red.
  13. The kids assembling the parts probably dropped too much glue in some components
  14. mmm... I will save the 300 if I just stop eating chocolate today. Hang on, I think there is still one caramel bear in my draw still. *looking* Dam. Ate the whole family yesterday. Bummer.
  15. Built up a nice light a few months ago. 6 xpg's 10mm narrow lenses. MaxFlex5A driver running at 1300MA (high) 14.8V lipo battery Got the stuff from a friend who works with me. Mostly comes from cree and okhobby. He had the housings machined etc as well. I must take some pics of it still. I want to build another one sometime with the new XM led that has just come out. You can get 1000 lumens (750 at 2A) out of it, it is the same size as the normal xpg/xpe. (Efficiency is up about 30 lumens from XPG's at 350ma/1 watt) So one of those for my head with a regina lense will be really awesome. Just not sure if they have new drivers yet to match the XM properly.
  16. Would be great. They shot Frail down for trying to get them to get involved here though.
  17. I too would love to see the real affects of drugged out atheletes. But in reality that would destroy the future of the sport entirely. Heavy jail sentences would be a good way to get them to tone down.
  18. Wow, you sent him off to "school" this morning? HARDCORE!!!! If that happened to me, I wouldnt leave the house for like a month. So is there much muscle or tendon damage? Trusting his collarbone is ok?
  19. RIP Carla. Guys, just to rub it in a bit more. But please ride your bikes with the thought in your head the whole time that there is a car next to you that hasnt seen you. Thinking that, even if there is no-one (or you think so at least) will make you more aware before you do anything sudden.
  20. Shame man. Today is clearly just not the day to be on the bike. Glad I took a break today. How did the crash happen?
  21. Added pic. Warning, a bit rough.
  22. No, I am worried that they may contain "performance enhancing substances"
  23. Pity the scam was uncovered. He could have charged some royalties there. Well, at least you all know who Theuns is now. And Fire. He rides for CT Market and Fire is really good as well. Often wins the womans league, track cyclist and is hoping to go to the 2012 olympics for track.
  24. Please remind me to never borrow your socks
