  1. A very simple thing. I'd like to know what Eskom actually pay for the diesel that fuels those turbines.
  2. He he all good fun; when does an e bike become an e (motor) bike (KTM e-sx, Alta etc)? Asking for a friend.
  3. Gleaning from Avcom; seems to be a puzzle as to why MCAS was not switched off as soon as automated nose down was initiated. Also that some instability was noted with the aircraft autopilot engaged and on disengaging, MCAS "took over" and drove to the crash site.
  4. Cyclone whatever buggered up powerlines from Cahora Bassa. You know it is trouble when reliant on importing from Mozambique. Little birdy tells me fortunes being made tidying Eskom's ash bugger ups from minimal maintenance..
  5. As I recall from Air Crash Investigation snippets it was on a flight from China, auto pilot malfunctioned and on switching it off, main flight computer starting throwing up errors then pitched the nose down, 4 degrees, then another data misinterpretation sent it another 6 degrees; passengers and non-flight crew not strapped in suffered some quite serious negative g injuries and it took a few attempts before the pilot could get some control back, then it happened again. Three man crew got it to an airfield but it may still have crash landed - no loss of life. Airbus worked with the Australians to dig out the problem in features with acronyms I've forgotten. But this just recall; I could easily have some stuff wrong. I will dig if needed.
  6. What I glean from Avcom is that the MAX was marketed as not needing an extensive retraining exercise for present 7373 pilots, making it an attractive purchase. But the glitch may not be just software as new engines required a change in the aircraft layout which may make it less stable in these "runaway trim" / conflicting computer input type situations.Bring back the pilot Pure software was the Quantas Airbus 330 in 1996 or so, sending the 'plane into steep dives, barely controllable. Good outcome though. Do Quantas boast they've never lost a passenger?
  7. Eish indeed; same aircraft type, only 4 months old and 6 minutes after take off it seems?
  8. Thanks for this topic and the excellent information so far. Can I ask for recommendations where to buy the top 3 (Sony, Bose, an other) please?
  9. Really interesting and a time eater. He's just left SA for the UK up Africa. Gave a talk in Jhb and CT; not Durbs, rode the Roof and Kalahari Rally etc. Real live wire and very very knowledgeable mechanically (some sort of jet engine / aerospace engineer by training). Had a bit of a health scare and took to Races2Places on a heavily modified (by him) KTM.
  10. I also have not read the whole thread but through friends and relatives I can relate to your experience and while words cannot truly help, I will think of you; positive thoughts only. It is one hell of an uphill road. Is the drip a new site each time or central line "port" type a friend had in his chest? Doesn't matter really - they all seem helluva painful.
  11. "Lack of self control" is because know it all's discounted (again, being polite) the facts of where Eskom was heading from way back; maybe due to self interest? I saw and experienced people being screwed up and around by Eskom and called it. You defended Eskom. Man up.
  12. oh agreed but do you (and some other Cape clown) remember slagging me off when I said Eskom was useless (to be polite)? I think you said they had lots of great engineers and good people. Where are they?

    MotoGP

Pity none of the teams could be coaxed into testing at Kyalami.
  14. Brings back accurate memories that bleddy Oesterbaai - St Francis gravel. No big climbs; how hard can this be? Well the road is rough as the proverbial bear's bum and dusty with it then the wind is always from voor but doesn't touch the heat. Eish; much beer was drunk.
  15. What a great achievement; as an armchair Mungaloid I have the greatest respect for everyone who started, let alone finished. But one thing from Mike Woolnough's comments: GATES: Asseblief / please, close those gates. As a farm owner it's dangerous and disrespectful and could lead to the race's demise (IMHO). Leave a gate open; one warning then DQ.
  16. He he SA idiocy but maybe now I know why there is some serious LPG storage capacity going in.
  17. If you are going to ride a smallish two stroke on the road and fast, be sure you have a very quick ear to clutch hand connection.
  18. Very sadly and an indictment on SA that it has to be bizarre or unusual to even make the mainstream press. Also sadly I do not see the situation changing anytime soon. Take away VIP protection then maybe. All the best for complete recovery to the rider.
  19. Ja ou Richie; if I was cynical I would say he manipulated he refs like Lance manipulated the cycling authorities of the day. But, based on a talk from Craig Joubert he did it much more pleasantly; but did it non the less. Richie and Paddy O'Brien were unstoppable.
  20. I personally would not touch anything that does not have an electric starter; Yam XT/TT600; Honda XR600/650R (the L is fine). Horsepower wise the newer singles (KTM/Husky) are well above the older bikes but introduce complexity, particularly fuel injection which can be troublesome (amongst other things) in the earlier KTM 690's
  21. John Smit was a superlative player and captain; (maybe stayed on a year too long) but I remember he had an overthrow on a defensive lineout that was gleefully snaffled by the AB's for a win. Then just a few weeks ago the AB's did it and the Boks won. It happens but should only happen once; after that throw to 2 (or just take the 3 points). Dumb play, dumb coaching.
  22. Funny I read the second last line as "C'mon Bakkies". Bakkies may have moered a few Bokkies in the changerooms; even if he'd been sent off for a no arms tackle.
  23. I'm always surprised Suzuki, Kawasaki and Honda; even Yamaha never upgraded their basic thumpers to shed a bit of weight, add a starter (Honda), improve suspension and eliminate weak spots (the doohickey on the KLR) etc. I've not ridden a DR but each time I went on a KLR, XR or my old TT600 I was impressed at their comfort and speed over more dirt oriented bikes.
  24. From somewhere I suspect the DR650 has some carb issues, particularly when a bit older; maybe just a clean as noted. Check out AdvRider forum.
