  1. Hi Jan, CCC can meet up with Cycles Diret and Outriders at the Wooden Bridge but i think we would need official permission and traffic police lead us thru to the V&A. the last thing we need is an unruly mob barrelling thu traffic lights on our way to CT. Graham
  2. The hire fee is R10. the track is closed for the week and will open again on 2 June till 10 June. i'm trying to find out what size bikes are available (i know 7 mediums are availabe at the moment) so that i can get a CCC "introduction to track cycling" session going. will pm u with details.
  3. hang in there Renaldo.
  4. go to Cycles Direct they have training groups. but try to avoid Blouberg Rd (lots of taxis.) West Coast Rd has a nice wide shoulder but very busy. re velodrome pm me. i work in B'ville as well and ride every Thurs @ ?4.45pm at the track. bikes are available to hire. we are going to start "novice track classes. just trying to get ducks in a row.
  5. We are planning to ride Jonkershoek on Sunday, come rain or shine. we will be leaving the coffee shop at 0730am. why dont we meet up?? we had a group of 15 at Tokai last Sunday that went up to the Silvermine gate and further (we are all roadies, so theres no mal downhill wannabees amongst us)
  6. trained on the track tonite - its like a pigsty. cooldrink bottles , spilt cooldrink , sand , polystyrene food boxes all over the place. and one of the drains has been broken in the home straight. i have also noticed that the model aeroplane club that uses it on Monday's allow their members to smoke and there are still stompies around on a Thursday.
  7. bought a tandem from Bikemax at the beginning of 2007. did the argus this year with my 12 year old son. finished in 4.19. rode only medium distance funrides 60+ k's every weekend from the middle of January. i worked like a dog up every hill but the stoker was able to talk and make jokes. every ride was a learning experience and my son enjoyed every minute of it. i secured the speedo on his handle bars and i made him responsible for that data. on our 1st ride we managed 75k's down O Kaapseweg, we managed to better that down helshoogte without pedalling and wanted to go faster in the Argus but held ourselves back on Chappies becos of S'bossie that was on the horizon. best cycling buy of my life.
  8. my 2 cents. We contacted the argus for our event and they inserted an article under "preview of weekend sport". we had to email or fax the info to them by the Wednesday afternoon. one of our afrikaans speaking members contacted the Burger and spoke with Hubert and they did the same thing. if you want the race report and results in the argus you have to have it with them by the Sunday night as they have a section in the Tuesday edition devoted to small sports like cycling (normally they always do a report on the PPA league or Gauteng/oseas cycling). imo the sports reporter go and look for stories concerning big sports rugby, soccer , cricket but only have time for cycling when it is "Argus Time".
  9. i think he at the UCI High Performance Centre in Swissland.
  10. City CC will be taking part in the Knysna Tour (Mtb and Road) and then will cycle down to CT in the week following the KCT. i will be post details later this week under events forum. so far we have about 11 members riding down and we can accomodate another 9 riders. we have advertised internally in CCC but are now going to open it to non members. this will the 3rd time that we ride down to CT.
  11. we are constantly reminding our members to behave wrt traffic rules and reg. littering will be added to our weekly mail
  12. you don't get money from Lotto you get "hardware". if memory serves me correct the SACF received Track / Road bikes from Lotto to the value of R??? and they were distributed to the provinces. 30 are down here in the Cape (and we could do with some more) and have been used to its fullest potential.
  13. those roads look familiar , if you are in the Edgemead area. pm me we have various levels of cyclist in our training groups and have recently had a group of runners join looking to start cycling.
  14. Robotech , you are more than welcome to ride with us. as an e.g. on Saturday we rode the following routes: Short Route will ride to the top of Malanshoogte via Contermanskloof (approx distance 34 kms) Medium Route will ride over Tiekiedraai and return via Adderley and Malanshoogte (1.8km of gravel road would need to be negotiated so pump up those tyres)(approx distance 54 kms) Long Route will ride the same roads as the Medium but will return via van Schoorsdrift and the N7 (apprx distance 72 kms) as a rule we ride as a group and regroup at important junctions and the top of hills , just to make sure that everyone is alright. we all stop for punctures. other routes include down to Melkbos / Duynefontein / Atlantis (we take the wind S'easter into account). On a Sunday we ride out to Landduno / Chappies or to Stellenbosch via Polka.
  15. Joevan is correct. We ride every Saturday of the year, 7.00am from in front of the Edgemead Community Hall and we cater for all standards of cyclists. You don't have to be a member to ride with the our group. Most of the cyclists are residents from the surrounding suburbs and the last thing we need is for someone to write to the local newspapers complaining of a bunch of cyclist barrelling through the suburbs ignoring traffic lights. we want to be a good example to other road users and especially the youngsters who we hope to attract to our club. We are also in the process of starting a novice training group as well as a week day (8.30am) riding group for retired people and housewives.
  16. But then again' date=' I saw a large group of (I think) City Cycling Club riders (they had "CITY" printed down the side of their shorts) on the weekend passing through Stellenbosch, and they all stopped at a traffic light near the Station, even though there was no crossing traffic.[/quote'] ja Homer , we had just returned from the Pumphouse above Gordons Bay. our policy is to stop at red traffic lights just as any other roade user would. luckily enough were are not a massive club and our groups are only ?20 to 30 strong and we have enough "outoppies" to keep control. btw we got soaking wet on the way home.
  17. [ Is he allowed to ride the DC then? his suspension will be lifted on 15 Nov but he will still have to pay the fine if he wants to ride in any ppa , wpca or csa sanctioned event.
  18. i believe there were roadworks taking place on the road past Eerste River - does anyone know if they have been completed?
  19. the "office" is very helpful - as long as you phone and arrange first. but they flout the no smoking rules big time.
  20. Green snot sounds like you have an infection which means you have to have antibiotics and REST. there are no shortcuts. go see your doc.
  21. ride , ride & ride some more
  22. unless things have changed in the past few months then i think that you should take out a "cyclosport license" as you don't have to belong to a club to do this. u can download it from the CSA website.
