  1. picked up a tub of Marathon and Carbofuel today, and some gels. will try them out this weekend.
  2. the plank challenge sounds like a plan. Going to take this on from tonight.
  3. has to be set up. and combination of a weak core Average weekend ride is anything between 60-80km, this last 1 I just did more hills.
  4. I will be joining you guys very soon, been meaning to call you this week to get more info, need to take my cycling to the next level.
  5. I have not been to 1 either, and have been adjusting bits n bobs as I went along. So far I have been pain free, until last Saturday when I did a 83km with a bit more hills, and for some reason I killed my lower back. Have done similar rides in the past and never had pain like this, so my only way to get this sorted is to have a proper set up done.
  6. Where is the best place in Durban to get a set up done? have been experiencing slight pain on my inner right knee and some sharp lower back pain especially when I do more hill training. Want to get this sorted asap, don't mind spending $$$ for a professional service. Tks
  7. Where in Durban can I find these products? Been to a few lbs and haven't seen in on the shelves. Does dischem still carry the brand?
  8. Got myself this yesterday... Kask Mojito
  9. thanks again to all for your replies and advice. high intensity would then be what I have to focus on going forward. Just looking at my polar data from this week, how would you say i'm doing ? Thursday morning - circuit - 31km, 30km average. Pushing very hard. rode 2 laps with a group, 4 laps alone. Z3 - 16% Z4 - 73% Z5 - 4% Saturday morning - suncoast to Umhlanga, 54km, 21.9km average with 550m of elevation. moderate to hard. riding alone Z2 - 24% Z3 - 26% Z4 - 41% Sunday morning - suncoast to Umhlanga, 45km, 18.9km average with 300m of elevation. easy [got my cousin into cycling, his 3rd time on a bike so I was cruising with him] Z1 - 54% Z2 - 35% Z3 - 14% - did some short sprints in-between. I can handle +/- 75km distance comfortably riding alone, at average of 22-24km with about 800m elevation. With the Amashova and 94.7 coming up, I will focus more and hill work as thats what really gets me down but I know I need to also increase my distance to be able to handle a 100km ride.
  10. if I lived in CPT i would definitely be more on a MTB than a roadie, you guys have some of the best scenery there
  11. polar rcx5 mainly for heart rate, only reason I got it was because Due south was clearing old stock and I got the ride bundle for R2400. oh and Strava...
  12. currently weight 97. I think 85 or below if I can get there would be good. Lean is good, skinny is not...
  13. eating has been clean, following a diet plan from dietician and that has helped me lose weight so far. Have not used any weight loss supps etc. Running, I cannot do. 2km max and I am dead... but I do add gym work 2-3 times a week. light cardio and some work focusing on my core.
  14. sorry it is road I am 1.83m, and if I get to 75kg I would look sick...
  15. well thats just the thing, while group riding is better, I do not want to rely on a group to make me think I am a better cyclist.
  16. thanks for all the replies. I would say about 2 hours in the week are done in a relaxed zone, rest of it is OK quality. I have recently moved to DBN so riding in the week is done around DBN circuit, although flat I push myself really hard. I try to do 30-40km on a tuesday & thursday morning, and most of this is done in HR Zone 4. Yesterday morning I averaged 30.1km/hr over 30km here. Weekend rides are usually longer and I head out to Umhlanga adding in some hill work and try to get in about 600-800m elevation , with some high intensity training in the mix.
  17. While I am sure this has been discussed many times, but a simple question, how did you improve your cycling ? We are not all born with the genes to be a great athlete, so many hours of training is required to improve ourselves. I have been riding for about 9 months now and have made some decent improvements in my overall fitness and cycling abilities. From starting of at an average of about 16km/hr on a cradle loop, I am now able to maintain 22-23km/hr around there doing 2 loops or more. But it seems that I have now hit a bit of a brick wall in terms of improvement. I started of at 105kg, currently at 97kg and continue to work on my weight reduction. Goal is 85kg there about. I currently ride between 150-200km [6-9 hours] a week. So question is, what should I concentrate on next to make me a quicker / better cyclist ? What training on/off the bike will make the biggest difference and simply how do I become a rider of who can maintain an average of closer to 30km/hr on a 100km ride like the Argus/Tour Durban etc etc While I know power to weight plays a big part in this, I am never going to be 75kg and need to find other ways to improve. Do i just need more years on the bike or can improvement be done in a short amount of time ?
  18. Hi All. Just want to find out who are the Merida agents in Durban. Looking for Scultura 400 road bike for my cousin who wants to start cycling. Leighs cycles in Pavillion & Gateway are out of stock, would need a 54cm. I am new to Durban to not sure who else carries the brand. Anywhere in central, north or south will do. Thanks
  19. Anyone do this previously ? What is the event like , road surface, safety etc ? Thinking about doing the 94km

  21. No expert but isn't the propel the aero frame? So assume that's going to be a hard ride. I bought myself the silverback sireli 2 last Friday, changed from a merida reacto which was aero frame, with 105. components. The ride is alot better and much more comfortable on the silverback, ultegra is much better with shifting and the brakes are world's apart in my opinion.
