  1. vitality health checks, fitness test and online assessment all contribute towards your fitness level and vitality age.
  2. Cell contract upgrade time, think I'm gonna move back to apple after 2 years and get a free iWatch. Already enjoying soo many benefits from Disco so why not another. Got my gym booster cash back this week also so it's all good. Thanks Disco!!
  3. yip that would be the drone shot.
  4. Nice 1. I know this is something that has been shot many times by many others, but its really something I want to add to my portfolio. Just very expensive to get a flight over the mother city to do something like this. 1 day.......
  5. Just think sensibly and you will be fine, we all have to learn and gain experience somehow. Don't overlap wheels, hold your line, don't slam on your brakes for no reason. Communicate with the people around you, use hand signals when you intend on moving around in the bunch. Just also be very alert and try to keep an eye on atleast 2-3 people in front of you to read the pace and any changes to it, this way it gives you enough time to react. The most difficult part of the route is between the 15-30km mark, save some gas through here and you will be ok through the rest.
  6. GC has been abit unstable in recent weeks, and some delay to sync between Disco and Strava but it eventually send the data across on its own.
  7. not points related, but does 2 gym visits a day count as 2 towards your total or do the only still take it as 1 a day ?
  8. everyone has to start somewhere hey, helmets and wheels in order, bikes are the most expensive of the lot so maybe if they win this then they will have something lining up...
  9. The only bad stretch of road is Edwin Swales between M4 and N2, there is some road works going on at the moment. Will drive it late next week to check what's happening.
  10. yes they probably will feel like that, but if you look at the profile Tom posted, there is some downs to help ease the pain a bit. I did it last year when I just started cycling so it felt like hell to me, but ready to take it on and shave of about 1h10 from my previous time.
  11. I'll be taking a break and will be spending some time in the bush, with the Big 5, doing some photography which is long overdue.
  12. 2 weeks to go... Don't forget, entries close tonight.
  13. 1500 points for me today from Emperors, 150-209min - vigorous workout. Not being used to the JHB altitude, my HR is always high. Avg HR 167 for 2h42 I am still on 300 for this week, so will expect an increase for the coming week
  14. just shoot at F11-F16 and it help the problem.
  15. rather put a bit more and get the 510 and enjoy the wireless sync which will save you some time in getting your activities to GC>Vitality and Strava for keeping your logbook up to date.
  16. Let's see when we get there, but as pointed out before it should still be easy to achieve if you are doing 4-5 activities a week.
  17. 100 points for a 1hr ride now, avg HR over 70%... Goal will be achieved tomorrow after the planned 5hr ride.
  18. Also haven't received anything so let's see... 300 seems easy after being on 1200 from the start.
  19. so its going to take a year or few to make significant improvement, I have the time so just need to get stuck in it and be disciplined.
  20. another thing, do any of you guys do gym work to increase leg power ? Squats, leg press, lunges etc etc
  21. Thanks for the reply Patch. definitely still on the chubby side after loosing 15kg, could do with another 8kg loss to get to 80. I've been at the power training thing for just about 4 months now, got an IDT after breaking my collarbone so at first I was still in recovery mode and started out with an FTP of 187, so have improved by 19%. Just have the Emperors and Tour Durban to go, and then I will work on improving endurance and weight loss through winter and then turn up the power training. I want to see results but I guess I just have to be very patient about it.
  22. How long does it take one to build up to those power levels? I'm riding properly for just about a year now, started from having no endurance and very little sustainable power. Last test was about 7 weeks ago at 222w, feel that I improved quite abit since, will do another test after emperors I think. Another thing is that I'm using Cycleops Virtual power with the Garmin speed/cadence sensor so Im not sure how accurate this is. No Wattbike at my local VA so no other way of testing for now.
  23. The guys with powermeters will be able to provide more info on this. The only thing I have to compare is Strava estimated power to my last test which is very close, while I know both forms of measurement isn't accurate its something to work with. FTP 222w - 20min ftp on Cycleops fluid2 with virtual power Strava 207w - from a 1hour all out session.
  24. Maybe look at a multi sport watch instead of the bike computer seeing that you also getting into running now. I have my eye on the Garmin vivoactive, there is a new one coming which has wrist based heart rate so maybe wait for that.
  25. Still very easy to get to that, well for 2 more weeks that is. I've been on 1200 since the start.
