  1. i call fake: since when does Mocams have douglas fir trees as indigenous flora? also it helps i've seen that pic before via email...?
  2. best to count your carbs (there are various kinds of carbs, but look for net carbs, or available carbs, or sugar), including whats in the protein shakes. I've been looking for alternatives to USN because of the high carb content, and because its not as smooth and delicious as say EAS myoplex shakes. Switched to EVOX this evening, a product called EVOX Super High Protein, with an advertised total carbs of 2g per 100g serving. Try this link for a nice explanation of the good and bad carbs, and the pitfalls of a low carb diet. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/betteru35.htm
  3. if that's in africa, then it means those sports cars of the skies are being hijacked. true story..
  4. I received the helmet yesterday. and this morning, I was informed I woldnt need to pay a cent...
  5. Junkie XL feat. Lauren Rocket - Cities in Dust and as an aside: Diana Kral is rather hot! dayum!Capricorn2009-06-03 03:49:16
  6. i'm with Slowbee on this as well. We are all supposed to have a rainyday fund. Insurances ties your money up in very inflexible ways. For big ticket items, they are unfortunately the best option, but things like bikes, cameras etc, the insurance machine is sure to suck your dry and still give you stick when it's claim time.Capricorn2009-06-03 03:25:50
  7. yeah, what i've done.. I 've reflected a bit on that, and the ease and speed of response from Fox almost makes me feel my actions were overkill. But the reality is: the service was bullsh*t, and it reflects on Fox, and it might not even have been their fault all along! Something is broken and it needs serious fixing. Fox was willing to appease the customer, but i hope someone's head rolls. You dont get to the top with a team of slackers. You find the culprit(s), take him/her/them into a backroom, and 'flog' the sh*t outta them. Either they leave that room changed, or they leave. Period.Capricorn2009-06-02 14:19:15
  8. 3 weeks ago, I ordered a full face DH helmet from the Fox store in Canal Walk. They didn't have my size in stock, and said they would order it. It would take about 5 days to arrive, so I should call the following week. I did, but they told me the helmet hadn't yet arrived. It was stuck at the distribution center in Durban, but they would continue to follow up and let me know what's happening. Fair enough. Another week passes, but no helmet. SPeak to the store staff, ask whats going on. Same story: issues with the distribution center. I ask if they can arrange some sort of discount for keeping me hanging so long. They will speak to the store manager, who I later heard, agreed to some sort of discount. Frankly, I just want the helmet. Anyway, another week passes, and I call tonight to find out whats happening. Store staff inform me they have no idea what the problem is. The Helmet is there, just not finding it's way to Cape Town. My patience has now thoroughly worn through. I ask for some contact details and names of people up at the Durban distribution center. I decided this is complete BS, because I dont understand how even the store manager can't fix this bit of incompetence. I look up Fox International, and fire off emails to three separate addresses I found on the Fox international website. What happened next kinda left me simultaneously shocked and heartened. I received a call from one Ian Calvesbert, European Managing Director for Fox EMEA. The connection was flaky, but he was calling from Portugal to let me personally know (at 19h20) that he is looking into the matter, and will endeavour to resolve it from his side. I presume because of the poor telephone connection, he sent me an email confirming our discussion. About 20min later, I receive a call from one Gary Green. I dont know his exact title, but I presume he is the director for Fox Africa, as it was Gary Green that Ian Calvesbert CC'd. He listened to my account of events, and explained his findings on the matter (findings already? ). He believes the problem is at the store, but he would launch a full investigation as the fall out unfortunately affected Fox and its products. Apparently, 7 other customers have been given the run around at the store wrt helmets. One lady lost her marbles in store and told them to sod off. Another customer requested head office details as I did because he too wanted to get to the bottom of the problem. Gary then asked me for the specific model and color scheme I was looking for. Unfortunately, that specific color scheme is a bit hard to find, even in the American channels IIRC. But he said he could arrange for a helmet in that color scheme to come directly from the manufacturers in China. Either that, or they had a helmet with another color scheme in stock at the Durban distribution center. Note: no one had at any time informed me another color scheme was available. At that point I felt almost embarassed as this would entail quite a bit of effort. I wasn't too fussy, and rather opted for the currently in-stock helmet with different color scheme in Durban. All he asked was for my delivery details, and said it would be couriered down to me personally within a day or so. All I would have to pay are the landing costs. I dont know what that is (and forgot to ask!), but he said it was way less than the store price. I just received a confirmatory email from Gary which is quoted below. I am super impressed with Gary and the Fox management team. I'm so impressed i'm literally slack jawed. Anyways, will update this thread once I've received the feedback he promised me. I am very interested to know how this damn shambles came about. So everyone that's placed an order with that Fox shop in Canal Walk, Cape Town, and was given the run around, let me know. 9. I will accept a man hug from PB any day! Bought a Marzocchi fork from him. But I had quite severe reservations about his claims of the state of the fork. This doubt came from nearly shafting myself with a previous purchase (which fortunately didnt go completely pear-shaped. so props to that seller as well). Picked up the fork, and unwrapped the wrapping with much apprehension, and my word, how hard didnt my jaw hit the floor. Absolutely mint as 2nd hand forks go. I had to really really look for scratches. And he tossed in a headset I was planning to ship in from CRC. Everything, all for what I now consider an absolute steal! So madprops to Pappa Bear for ripping himself off and being an incredible embodiment of honesty and integrity. Glad to have done business with you. If you ever in Cpt, I owe you a decent chow:)
  10. a slight aside: anyone know where to get those handlebar mounts that accepts both the trigger shift and the brake? Would luv one of those...
  11. Hey CWC: you do MTB DH equipment as well? easton, Hope etc? i'm looking for a Hope 2 Pro 32h 20mm front hub. PM me a quote if possible.
  12. jeeepers. in mocams??? but Yang: you have to go tell us how.
  13. anyone care to rep pappa bear? dealt with Matchstix: thumbsup from me. Darnilj: errrm...nah. he's oritey. Recognized his mistake and fixed it presto. props.
  14. mechanically fitting it to the bike is very straightforward . Setting up the indexing can be quite tricky. Sometimes the manual is a bit vague, and doing it on the stand is simply not an option. I did it on the floor once, but had to use two hands and a foot.. not cool.
  15. i've read about using the LARGE-LARGE circuit, but then add 2 chain links for the correct length, instead of one. The latter somehow sounds more correct though. For rear suspended bikes, it changes a bit due to what they call chain-stay growth. Mr Brown didnt cover that in his link.
  16. it's not the same from a heat transfer perspective. On the road, you get cooled by your movement through the air. indoors, unless you have a fan, you start heating up a lot quicker for comparable expenditure of effort.
  17. out of the ordinary tubesets are making quite the statements these days. take the GT Fury as an example. I would imagine those are made from two half shells that were cast, and then seam welded to make up what looks like a monocoque-like frame. Makes bikes look more organic-like if you know what i mean. Luv it when builders think out of the box. NB: i checked the GT Fury, and it is a monocque frame, but made of carbon fiber. Not sure how they constructed those complicated tubesets without some sort of symmetrical seam line, but still very aweesome bike frame.

    Tonight!

thing is: the intoxicated one doesn't get a payout from their insurance company, but you still will. What happens in the background is the insurance turns around and claims everything from her personally. I hope you whipped out your mobile phone and went snap happy on the accident scene. and most definitely try a Road accident claim.Capricorn2009-05-13 13:04:09
  19. it's not IBM anymore. IBM sold the rights to the chinese holding company Lenovo, and if reviews are to be believed, then they are making very good products. Every brand have their rotten apples. But if outright market share is used as the yardstick, then Dell takes the cake. HP will however, disagree
  20. if sandblasting cant be done, and i have my doubts that you cant get away with a spray-on filler to remove the slight roughness sandblasting results in, then try a steel-friendly chemical cleaner. I say steel-friendly, as some chemicals leech the carbon out of the steel's crystal structure, making it artificially brittle. This of course happens over time, so a wax on wax off approach might not result in any brittleness. The guys in the paint removal business are supposed to know the pro's and con's of each method, so consult with them. But nothing wrong with some elbow grease and a long weekend holding a piece of sandpaper
  21. I would have to hazard a guess which says No. Old steel might not be a of the exotic/near-aircraft grade steels/aluminums they use today, thus them being more prone to very obvious corrosion, which will require some work removing. Keep in mind, that stressed portions of a piece of metal acts as an accelerant wrt corrosion. That's why, on items that have been pressed to form a shape, such as car bonnets and bootlids, the corrosion in older models of cars tended to occur at these bent sections, all because of the stresses incurred during the shaping process. Similarly, your bike's welds and sharply curved portions might be stressed if not properly heat treated to relieve these stresses. On older steel frames, this more than likely the case. So leaving exposed steel surfaces to even air, much less more aggressive conditions such as outside in varying temperature and rain, those stressed areas will start corroding the fastest. Note: stresses also occur over time in parts of the frame that are not that obvious. Check elsewhere on Thehub for some thread which clearly shows a Cannondale almost shearing off mid way thru one of its tubes. Cannondale calls it 'normal' fatigue failure. (frankly, i would luv to simulate that particular frame using some finite element analysis software to determine if that area is prone to fatigue, and compare it to frames from competing manufacturers. Might point to a design failure on behalf of Cannondale) So corrosion can be accelerated almost anywhere depending on where residual stresses are highest. I would recommend slapping on some primer on steel frames as soon as possible after removing it's protective layers of paint.Capricorn2009-05-13 04:09:06
  22. sandblasting wont be an issue really: just protect any threaded portions. Also, aluminium does 'rust', but not in the sense that the word rust conveys. It forms a very thin oxidised layer that actually protects the aluminum underneath, so there is no real danger of huge amounts of material loss as one expects when mild steel or iron oxidises. As long as it's not exposed to the elements, you can leave the primer off: choice is yours really.
