  1. I got XT's on one bike and SLX on the other No problems with either great brakes. To be honest I cant feel any diff between them if you on a budget you cant beat SLX.
  2. Ok been busy on Google earth got a provisonal route to teak and back which I think all will enjoy. Sunday morning leave the Strubens gym carpark at 7-00 Not sure of total distance a full lap of teak is about 33km so I estimate somewhere between 65 to 80 kms for full ride. Who would be interested to come with this Sunday?
  3. Quite nice with fresh legs my son got up there as well which I was happy with he enjoyed the route but was quite tired at the end. Was a bit swampy in places plenty running water as well you could see that there was plenty rain in last few days but really nice evening to ride. Have you sorted you brake hose out? I would like to ride twice next week depending on weather I am thinking of riding to Teak doing a full lap at Teak then riding back home either tom morning or Sun morning I want to plot it on the Garmin then take a look on google earth at ways to make it shorter and longer by working out some alternate ways of getting to and from Teak.
  4. Weather was great really was a nice evening to ride ended up spending almost 2 1/2 hours on the bike just got home as it got dark Rode from gym in reverse of last week up that koppie up dirt road to beyers then all the way down the single track went into Avianto did a lap of the guide dog route then up past police station and quarry just short of 40km rode with my son so was a nice easy pace
  5. Short notice I know leaving in 10 mins to ride will go past the gym in about 15 just in case anyone wants to ride
  6. did you get the hose sorted out?
  7. Thanks Johan will go check out the Strides.
  8. I did look at that one it has nice features I was just unsure as I wanted the option to be able to hold the bike with both wheels on when cleaning without doubt it must give you a solid base to work off Thanks Zaskar
  9. Hmmmm maybe..I was actually thinking of putting the stand in the wife's lounge with bike attatched its so cold and dark in the garage I am tired of battling without a stand so thought I deserved one along with a track pump and pressure gauge and scale and and... I hate CRC I tried to stay away but theres an evil force drawing me back How is that Ralpf on the front end?
  10. I need a stand for working on the bikes been looking at quite a few I like the look of the Topeak Elite would order the scale as well Any thoughts advice much appreciated http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=2928
  11. XT for me as well I get them in 3's from CRC so at around 170 rand each it doesn't break the bank to replace.
  12. Storms have just hit here at work thunder lightning and rain going to give this afternoon a miss Will try ride tom storms permitting
  13. Make sure the pump has a air loss valve on it like the pocket shock DXG. I use this pump now as I could not handle the air loss with a normal shock pump when unscrewing it esp on rear shock as you battle to know you have the right pressure in. With the valve you set it release valve ensuring correct pressure has been maintained then unscrew the pump. This feature is a must. http://www.topeak.com/products/Pumps/PocketShockDXG
  14. Speak to JB at Yellow Saddle for the spokes and nipples he will have stock
  15. If its raining I will give it a miss tonight but will def ride if its not raining
  16. If its raining like that I will not be riding was stuck in the gym, roads were flooded on way home that was alot of rain!! I actually said to my wife if we had ridden today we would of got caught in that would of been fun I suppose
  17. GT how you finding those UST Ralphs? are you happy with the front? I have not used mine yet I fitted the Hutchinson Cobra's they roll real fast but front end grip is pretty bad only realised how bad when I rode the other day with my Conti's and the bike just gives you so much more confidence At this stage I am thinking of getting another set of race/mountain kings for the ZTR wheelset
  18. Yes I am keen to ride work is back to normal though which means I can be at gym by 16-45.Today I have my spinning gear with me so going to spin at that Gym but tom would be fine how many would be interesred to ride tom meet at the gym for 16-45?
  19. Mark I run a magishine 808 on my helmet and then a 816 on my bars. Great set up gives you more than you need for both technical and general riding. Bought then from EdgeDesign on the hub and was about +/- R2200 for both lights extra helmet mount and extension cable and postage. If you are not riding technical stuff at night a 816 by itself is all you need but I find the 2 complement each other.
  20. There are a couple of factors to consider Firstly and most importantly What does your wife want from her rides/races If she is front of the pack looking for every second then lighweight non ust tryres and the risks that go with them plus the ability to deal with cut sidewalls and changing tubes etc whilst covered in sealant ete etc will be her choice. If she wants trouble free rides with no hassles a decent set of UST tyres with stans will mean she will prob never have to fix a puncture or walk ..ever (this would be my choice for my wife I am quite happy to sacrifice 150 grams to know she is riding a bullet proof set up. Fit something like wtb weirwolfs and forget about her Plus if she actually did puncture its very easy and quick to put a plug in
  21. Thanks for the ride Guy and Steve nice to meet and ride with you guys. Was a good ride except for the $#%@ing wire !! Looks like we might get a few more to ride which will be nice for exploring the other trails
