  1. You've obviously had some bad experiences. Perhaps giving more details about what went wrong, will help others on this tread?
  2. I deal with these queries daily. Broker will ask me to match a premium from another Insurer. on the broker policy they have selected all excess waivers, ect ( which increases the premium), but then on the policy they are comparing against, the client has a large % excess ( which decreases the premiums) - you have to do apples for apples
  3. Thefts away from home is usually not covered unless the item is specifically specified on your policy. ( bicycles almost always have to be specified according to the T&C of policies, or cover is limited to a small amount (R3k-R5k)
  4. Naked is backed by Hollard so you shouldn't have issues. I have my car through them, recently submitted a windscreen claim on a Sunday. 15 min later, notice received that claim was approved. Got a call on the Monday morning at 8:05 to schedule replacement. I also paused my accident cover the following week while we were away on holiday, got a small credit refunded into my account 2 days after I changed to full comprehensive again. (so no bicycle claim success story but great first claim experience). Strange that you weren't asked to submit photographs and /or video of the bike. (they usually request those from what I remember)
  5. Hectic indeed, using semantics to avoid a refund...... How long does the Postponement take
  6. The way I read that is that you are entitled to a refund as the Race was cancelled. ( as opposed to asking for a refund as you didn't feel like riding anymore)?
  7. My Neighbour got seeded with the Elites.... he did a 5 hr plus ride last year.
  8. How does the kiddies race work? is there number collection, ect? The website isn't very clear - or should I expect comms closer to the time? ( first time entering the young one )
  9. M for moist...... (hopefully not the weather on the day)
  10. Hi The Top Cap is made of some sort of soft metal ( I suspect its made by Extralite as is most of the components on the bike) The challenge is that the allen key cannot get purchase in order for me to remove it. Any suggestions on how to get this sorted?
  11. There are some, if you are on Strava, check under the segments - the Kaalrug loop looks like a "nice" day out. I also know that the guys from Komatiepoort do outrides to Marloth Park ( just watch out for trucks on the N4(
  12. This could work if your policy is an "Assets Out" Type, where you don't need to specify items seperatly to have cover away from your house. ( All Risks, Wearable's, ect) premiums tend to be slightly more actually but its worth not having to specify every single bicycle, cellphone, garmin, etc. You would still need to prove ownership at claims stage obviously.
  13. Should be covered under All Risk section (sub section of your Contents). There are 2 parts to All Risks, Specified - like your bike where the note the item specifically, and Un specified - usually clothing and personal affects. Most companies would limit the per item value however ( if you select R20 000 All Risk Unspes cover, you might have 25% of that value as cover per item
  14. Not Sciatica? Especially the pain in the lower back and Buttock.
  15. SAPS was clearing out some informal traders yesterday at the intersection at Zandspruit. There goes the riders chance of stopping for a char-grilled corn on the cob.... racefood!
  16. Those Spez bikes weigh a ton don't they? My daughter has a Chillafish - the only negative for me on that was its also pricey and the seat adjustment sucks. (also, no brakes) They are also a but pricey but we got ours for free (#winning!) My son has a JD Bug - its held up surprisingly well for all the abuse he puts it through. They have both technically outgrown these, but still prefer to muck around on them compared to the Muna Pedal bikes (16") I got them as they are still just a little too big for them
  17. Your bicycles are usually specified under the non motor section of the policy, where the "New for Old" principle apply. If your 30 year old Telefunken box tv breaks due to an Insured event , the insurer will replace with a new tv of same size - same for your bicycle. If your 20 year old Yeti 26r is stolen, you'll get a new 29'r (if your sum insured is correct). Average on specified items are always contentious, as you select the value to insure for. Tecnically you can under insure knowing you will be replacing the stolen item with a second hand one. That would obviously also depend on whether the Insurer decides to Replace, Repair or pay cash
  18. If you are just looking for a hr strap with dual connectivity buy the one from Decathlon? It's R500 +-.
  19. So not "upside down on the back of your helmet"?
  20. And the ones near the Dome, couple of little Dongas out there
  21. I first thought this thread was resurrected to discuss this: https://privateer.co.za/product/silca-mattone-seat-pack/
  22. That part from Zandspruit to the highway on Beyers is a nightmare. No yellow lane, broken shoulder, dodgy taxis, ect.
  23. Yip, better to go around the cnr to Bru if you want a decent brew 🙂
  24. I've only done one Sani and don't see what the fuss was about. Most guys seem to love the race Id much rather do another W2W or Berg and Bush
  25. You can either add it to your current Household/ Contents policy as a specified item (does seem like you are not too happy with KP else you could probably use their R1 option?) alternatively, use a bicycle specific underwriter ( Cyclesure) or Use a broker that knows about cycling (Galileo, Garrun, TIG, etc) Use one of the "newer" app only Insurers ( Naked, Pineapple, JaSure) - they are all covered by the biggest Insurers in the country ( Hollard, Santam, OMI, etc) but yes, a Broker does give you a bit more bargaining power with the Insurers, either in getting a better premium or when it comes to claim stage. Remember, wear and tear is never covered, make sure you understand if there are any specific requirements ( locked up with a specific level of padlock) and if you are covered when doing races, etc, ect ( use the search option, there's another tread with all the answers you might need - this question pops up every now and then)
