  1. That's my guess as well.
  2. To be clear it's a 15 and 32 meaning the 32km runners will be passing the same stretch twice.

    Cricket......

A national radio station in Australia, has produced a spoof video which pokes fun at the country's cricket team's cheating in the third test against the Proteas in Cape Town http://ewn.co.za/2018/03/26/watch-aussie-radio-station-triple-j-roughs-up-oz-cricket-team-in-parody-music-video

Cape Town - A moving open letter to Australian captain Steve Smith from an Australian cricket fan and father. https://www.sport24.co.za/Cricket/Proteas/open-letter-to-australian-skipper-steve-smith-20180326
  5. That's for the 98 route, total entries is 2432 2017 was 2713 for 98 and 674 for 48, total 3387, that's almost a decline of 1000 riders. Riding to the start I saw many riders including large groups opting for training rides rather than enter for whatever reason.
  6. Played Hynena today on the short route, we rode from behind and helped with punctures and other technical's. Saw the remnants of at least 4 crashes including one at the Hyperama, though oddly this was on the opposite side of the road before the groups returned. Plenty of marshals and metro officials. Gripe goes to the guys in 2nd BL bunch who came past screaming at the shorter route riders riding 2 abreast to keep left while they were 4/5 abreast.
  7. MTB is going to be muddy, we did part of the course a few weeks back and it was overgrown in parts, hopefully they have done some work on it.

    Who remembers?

Lot of history attached to the song "Master Jack" Glenys Lynn, from Four Jacks and a Jill once said: “In certain mines the foreman is called ‘Master Jack’, and the song tells the story of a labourer who works diligently for this master for years and years and then decides to go out on his own and exercise his desires and aspirations as an individual to be something other than a labourer”. Another thought was "Jack" referred to Britain and the "Union Jack" and SA declaring its independence.

    Who remembers?

Snacked on a packet of those in my car travelling to a meeting once. Needless to say the meeting was short and we did not get the tender.

    Who remembers?

Used to have that on toast, delicious.
  11. I have reservations but plan on doing it albeit very cautiously. Not clear why the org's have not approached GW for input, based in Germiston and renowned for their Carnival race they would be able to provide plenty of advice.
  12. With a running race scheduled covering part of the course past Colgate its going to be a challenge.
  13. Looking at the sub 3's for the 50's and over there's still plenty of life in "old ballies" including one rider in the 70-74 group Oldest female finisher was in the 80-84 group.
  14. RIP to cyclist involved. Been watching the Youtube stream, After 10 I called it quits but must admit to really missing it today, Maybe next year ??

    Rugby...

21-10 to Lions but they are going to lose their lead if they do not clean up their basic handling errors and discipline.

    Rugby...

33-15 final score, Stormers ran out of steam in 2nd half.

    Rugby...

Cracker of a game on the go at the moment, half time Highlanders 19 Stormers 15.
  18. Did the route last week, fast and furious, without pushing too hard and few stops to regroup my ave was still good. IMO having done RFS, Carnival and Fast One I have found this to be flatter and faster. Good for seeding and time (sub 3 easily achievable) but down side is potential for more crashes.
  19. Some have not forgiven him for getting Sagan kicked out of TDF.
  20. R415 ?? Hosted by Lions with proceeds going to charity, Wilro Lions R250 early entry R280 late entry timed by racetec and collection on race day.
  21. I only need glasses for reading but can still see my Garmin without them so that's OK, I have prescription ones as my main glasses then a couple of Dischem ones dotted round the house and a pair in my car (some of those cycle store labels are minute). Every 2 years I'm eligible for new glasses, last time I went for an eye test they found my eyesight had not deteriorated. On the cycling side last year I accepted that with age you need to make some adjustments and one of them is I switched to compact crank on my road bike, best thing I could have done.
  22. That's a whole lot of responsibility for nothing. I'm assuming all meetings take place in Cape Town so this also limits somewhat the list.
  23. Some serious concerns with the route particularly through Boksburg. Even without full closure traveling along Atlas onto Leeupoort (which houses a major taxi rank) it will also severely impact traffic along Trichardt and Rondebuilt roads the 2 major links between Boksburg bottom and top half. I'll probably ride it but safety first, treat every intersection as if you approaching a red robot and only proceed when you sure the other vehicles have stopped. 947 had communication on how to ease the reroute, good luck to the 100 cycle orgs on this one.
  24. Pity when there is a cycling accident or hit and run the department of sport does not call the Pres of CSA, for that matter neither does CSA do anything, in fact PPA do a lot more. And it not only the current lot. CSA has always been a lame duck, I recall more than 10 years ago there was a huge cycling awareness ride after a number of incidents around the Lido loop including 2 cyclists killed. This was arranged by ordinary cyclists, PPA had representation, dept of sport/CSA - Nothing, not so much as an acknowledgement.
  25. Also over half a century, enjoying my riding more than 30's and 40's partly because I enjoy klapping guy half my age
