  1. @ HappyMartin, for sure races such as RFS and R4V are included, perhaps the motivation should be "what and where does my money go" rather than "how big is the goody bag or will i get a nice shiny medal"
  2. Race orgs don't only cost races to cover their costs which is expensive, some orgs don't even benefit a single cent as any profit made goes to a charity. e.g Carnival Race organizers receive no personal financial benefit from this event. All profits go to Rotary Community Projects, the Rotary Foundation, Germiston Wheelers Charity Projects and the development of amateur cycling in South Emperors All proceeds from the event go to the Little Eden School in Edenvale (No its not some elitist upper class school looking to raise funds but a school for people with Intellectual Disability's) Why host an event when at the end of the day all you are able to do is hand over to each recipient a measly R100. An argument here is less cost will attract more riders, perhaps but more riders will cost the orgs more anyway.
  3. Forgot to add cyclosport is multi discipline, so you can race road, mtb, BMX, track, anything on 2 wheels without an engine or 1 in the case of a unicycle.
  4. Full license if you want to race provincial and nationals, otherwise cyclosport lic is needed. If you have cyclosport lic and your seeding is good enough to qualify for the vets 40+ you will be slotted in depending on how much space there is, otherwise you will be seeded in open category. If you are seeded in the vets but would rather race open then you can fall back.
  5. Speedy recovery
  6. With a book such as Parktool and a Bicycling DVD you can complete any maintenance task, i have stripped a bike using these as refs and using borrowed tools but i prefer not to as its such a hassle not to mention cleaning up afterwards and i have a good relationship with my LBS. Sat i hit a pothole putting my rear wheel out of alignment, popped in and they had it straightened in no time and no cost, they even stayed open a bit later to help me. Besides the cost of tools is quite scary, and you cannot work on a bike with a shifting and a screwdriver. Agree with BigH, check your bike after the LBS has worked on it, i cycle round the LBS parking lot for about half an hour and do pick up slight faults occasionally which the sort out pronto.
  7. Route will still be very fast, the only diffs is we do not turn left off rondebult onto the N17 but continue till R554 then left to carnival city.

    The Fast One

Nice site, a few errors such as Jae brothers listed which i'm sure will be sorted.
  9. That route looks like last years race
  10. The seller most certainly swopped the groupset and replaced with 9spd, some shops have been known to do the same and downgrade components then try sell it claiming its the real deal.
  11. Thanks for the update and sounds like the rider is ok, hopefully someone got the registration number.
  12. Weather permitting long road ride tommorow and MTB ride Sunday.
  13. This will be my 11th so i'm expecting marching bands, cheerleaders etc when i get to the finish
  14. L group same as last year but plan to ride in a lower group.
  15. Strange things can happen, miracles take a bit longer
  16. Sorry Scotty' date=' I put no faith in economists. The finest economic minds in the world put us in the sh!t we are in now. I would rather listen to the tea lady when it comes to these matters. Not having a dig at you, just stating my opinion.[/quote'] Its cool , just not read any articles on the real benefits other than the feel good clap hands benefit and for that i have a world cup shirt, mascot and RSA flag, will be rooting for firstly Bafana, then an African side and lastly which ever team is the underdog to win the world cup.
  17. I would be keen, i used to do the mintek night race until it was cancelled.
  18. Most residents of Polokwane cannot afford the ticket costs to start with' date=' the idea is to get outsiders in to watch boosting toursim and local business. According to weekend newsaper lot of foreign tourists will base themselves in Jhb/PTA and travel to games even those held in Durban.[/quote'] weren't they providing special low-cost tickets for poor locals? Great idea HR extremly difficult to implement as how do you determine who'a a poor local and who's not, soccer games are poorly attended as is. Also finacially the less the ticket costs the more the expensive the stadium was to build, post 2010 what will happen to this stadium other than be a venue for some future ANC rally.

  20. In the history of the world cup, every team hosting it has made it to the second round, i fear we will change history. There will be some financial benefits but in reality only the major cities will see any kind of longer benefit, the outlying stadiums such as Polokwane and Nelspruit will struggle and i fear become white elephants unable to recoup the costs to build, who would want to pay to watch a team like Algeria play Slovenia in Polokewane ?
