  2. Oh and another question about 6 foot drop offs........er how do i put this question.........er about the drop ofs em what do you do to protect the family jewels?
  3. So how do you change gears? What about breaking and do you get unicycles whith free wheel hubs?
  4. check out coolheat on the links section. They will be able to give you best advice as they are realy keen to get bike hops to start promoting 29ers. They are in joburg
  5. Just a question regarding caron fiber rims. I suppose they never require spokes, destressing or tensioning, dont loosen etc etc right? Why arnt there more and more wheels made with carbon? Should i bite the bullet and get carbon wheels and only change the hub when required? No broken spokes or extra costs tensioning buckling et
  6. Hang on is the lock out mechansim not for locking during ascents? This holds true for sure on smooth terained climbing. I have mostly experience on HT so i dont know if on very technical ascents a dual is better or not? Does anyone else have experiene on the use of DS on very technical ascents being faster or easier to climb? Would you lock out on TECHNICAL climbs or not and why?
  7. So it seams i have broken my aluminium silverback frame on the welding(riding railway tracks)-got my nut squashed a bit too. However the alu frame cracked and it was under warenty. It seams that when buying carbon its not carbon versus alu. Im 89kg Its in fact carbon versus warenty. If jumbo jets have carbon in the tail and some helicopters have it in blades then i guess snap crackle pop is what you get when buying a bike from a manufacturer that dont know what they are doing with carbon? I gues the same aplies to alu. Dont blame the materials...blame yourself and the manufacturer for being weight weenies. Look at the warrenties. You cant have your bread buttered on both sides
  8. Hey man whats the matter with you all. What about the GIANT version man???? GIANT dudes GIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you all a bunch a roadies with your boutique type Merida for pansies!!! Go ride a real klunker and feel like a man.
  9. Great! Thanks for the reply. It makes allot of sense what your saying. What a pity i have to buy a whole new bike and cant simply fit 29er on my current bike.!
  10. Hey great bike man. I have R9000......oh erm could i have discount for cashl?
  11. 15H00 hours. holy crap!. How much weight did you loose? You mustive been hungry and cranky!!
  12. I lived in joburg/pta my whole life. You can start of finding a LBS that organise group rides. If not available then download google earth work out a route and organise a group ride yourself. If your alone then dont forget the .38 nice and small. Safety in number always works a treat and then......dont forget to design the route to stop at a few pubs, teazers........er sorry different forum along the way.
  13. Hey OAk valley rocks. What a pity it's going to be a while before i get there again. There are just far too many places to ride and too little time. There Jonkerhoek, lebanon.,Parl, Tokai ... and google earth is damn trip all its own. Just too much. And thats not even the secrete places!!!! Now this weekend im doing Die Burger 60km MTB race. I hears its going to be easy peasy.
  14. Hey CBrunsdon, I forgot to take my bike pedometer of when loading I accidentaly zeroe some info.. However my "trip up said 29km. Though that includes some route deviations. This is defentely not race pace. This is wht i call a fun route so yeah us lot are not exactly "high performance athletes". There are guys that can do this route in under an hour.
  15. What is the best product to use to make the bike look new. When i get it from the bike shop it looks great. After i wash it the black paint is dried and dull?
  16. Teflon Cables. Now that makes sense to me. And it wont cost a cable and life savings account either. Personaly im tired of oiling my cables after each muddy ride.
  17. 20-30grams less? Why not skip that last mouthfull of pasta? It could save a fortune! Or drill one hole in the crown of your MTB fork!
  18. Ok not too many crime spots in CT from a cyclists perspective? At least your nt stabbed in the neck!
  19. Man everytime i see something like this i realy get hacked off. Ride where you want to ride but be prepared-arm yourself and be vigilaint. These are cowardly parasites that have no brainpower. What will they do with the bikes? They only understand violence and intimidation..... Im sick of hearing dont ride hear and dont ride there! Fuc* these ars%*#@)! I grew up in Gauteng and will damwell ride were i want to. With these sh*&^ heads you need to fight fire with fire!!! Go in groupes and be prepared. Do you think they are goi to stop? No wayyyy-cause they get away with it.
  20. Local is lekker.... Now common with the pics. Is this not the same bike in the latest Tread mag?
  21. Ok im still wondering about the 29er versus 26er. Today i rode my fiance Giant MTB as my bikes forks are moeg. She has fat Larson TT tyres and i use to have narow Continental "double fighters". I have ridden these for a while and despite the slip effect on wet rocks they gave me fast rolling on hardpack but somwhat bumby ride on rock. The Larson TT felt like underpresure tyres compared to the Continentals at the same pressure!! This made me wonder again about the validity of 29ers. Remember the advantage is bigger wheel diameter covers a larger surface area in contact with the ground than the 26er giving a more controld and comfortable and faster ride(yet you loose slight responsivness). Now that is exactly what i experienced with the Larson TT tubeless tyres today . Very smooth and comfortable as well as stable on steep wet rocky ascents/decents compared to the Continental double fighters! Surely the wide tyres covering a bigger surface area does the same as a 29er? If you fitted the 29er with these Larson TT now that would be too cumbersome for racing? Please let me have your comments especially from those that can shoot this theory down!
  22. I also live in Somerset West. I subscribe on line and got my mag 3 weeks later(2nd edition)? How can it be that the LBS is stil waiting? Maybe you should change your LBS to Mavericks! Why dont you simply subscribe. The magazine is worth it and yes we all hope that Tread does not bow hot and cold. None the less most mags do have their"dull issues". But one mans dull is another mans whohooo!
  23. Guys me and my fiance' will c u there. However we want to do the black route. This means that though we might start together we will split of on to the black route which rejoins the red route again at a later stage. We are not trying to be anti social its just that Oak valey is such damn fun that even though your on the trail for hours its feels like 45 minutes.
  24. f&*ck. I should be riding right now. cr#@@% man!!!!!!!!!!!! Am i feeling better? nope not yet.....sh*&^
  25. Hey Cbrunsdon, good to see you getting rid of those toe clips! I did the red and green routes last week. I must say the rides are some of the most fun i have had in a long time. They are fast and fun with not much technical aspects. A great place to get practise with the cleats . However i will be sticking to my old running shoes.
