  1. I agee with you 100%. For R525 total I can enter many fun rides. I have done Argus already and quite frankly living in Cape Town I am somewhat spoilt for choice. Tough missed the cutoff but refuse to be screwed for this. If they did not contribute so much to charity I would have made a stink but seeing as we are late and allot of this money goes to charity its not worth complaining.
  2. Ok here goes boet! https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/93959-weird-looking-bike/
  3. I have done 2 IM. Long term prep gives you the best satisfaction. It can be done with 3 months training provided that you have had some passed experience in an ultra distance for at least the bike or running. Swim is the easy part and honestly believe 8 weeks of 3 1hour sesions each week with one open water training sesion per week can have you more than ready for the swim. If you have never done an ultra marathon. or cycled more than 140km or never done any endurance sport then..it can still be done but expect to be punished harshly during the event.
  4. Trawling the net and found this strange looking bike. Apparently it converts from a normal bike to this when it starts snowing! That looks like a workout alright imagine pedaling that one!
  5. Excellent!! Thanks I was just curiouse because I could only manage 16km hour avarage speed. It felt faster but I gues the climbs do slow you down a bit.
  6. I see the weekend Argus reports the following: " A Motorcyclists was killed yesterday on Boys drive after an unlicensed bakkie driver made a sudden you turn" The southbound traffic was closed leading to long delays. The motorcyclist was 37 and was heading towards Muizenburg.Only one lane o the main road between Muizenburg and Kalk by was open leading to heavy traffuc build up" Is this not perhaps the same incident and incorrectly reported as a cyclist? Still sad news because of this wanker not having a license!
  7. I must confess, I have done this steenbrass waterworks a few times.. However Phil Ligget will change his opinion of the most scenic ride if he should dare take up MTB. The most scenic ride IMO is from Somerset West is the following: Somerset West to top of Sir Lowries pass(N2) (yes I know N2 worse than Gordons bay road) then in to Hottentots holland to base of Hanskop. Then ride to top of Hanskop and enjoy looking down on Steenbrass dam, then ride the singletracks to the Grabow Country club and PAY for the privalidge, then ride single track to Gantow pass and descend down the old wagon track riding alongside the railway track back home.. Its only about 70km but you will know you have ridden THE MOST SCENIC RIDE YOU CAN EVER RIDE IN THE CAPE....maybe I should not even be mentioning it on this forum. Luckily this is not likely to be a popular topic and few people have the legs to take on Hanskop .
  8. Thinner than Cardboard? Hmmmmm do not throw sticks and stones. The pictures bellow show a Cervelo that cracked parallel to the top tube. This is clearly a WORKMANSHIP ISSUE on this particular frame!I measured the thickness at the crak at 0.8mm with a vernier! This DOES NOT MEAN CERVELO IS BAD! It just means that they had one bum crappy frame. The plus points are that Cervelo have the most advanced manufacturing method and carbon materials i have seen out of the variouse brands I repaired. This I can see not from the marketing hype but from the high fiber density, consistency in fiber orientation and finish on the inside. If you are a "brand loyal" chap do not tempt me to give the low down of your chosen brand. Besides Cervelo, I have repaired Stevens, Raleigh, Canondale, Specialized, Giant, Bianchi and Silverback this year. Only 2 MTB though! I have not seen any Chinese frames yet…trust me they too can break
  9. I live in Somerset West. There are hundreds of km of good decent roads with some realy tough rides that are not busy (Bains pass, R44 with rolling hills etc) where visibility and road traffic is excellent with broad shoulders (except for Bains and Franschoek pass). But Bains is almost dead on a Sturday and Sunday Yep I might not be a top rider but I have done allot of road riding training for events such as the double century, Iron man, Argus etc. Yes I have ridden this Gordons bay Kleinmond road..once. The point is why ride a road like that when there are hundreds of much safer roads that are also tougher to ride as well? Are you riding to train or riding to enjoy the scenery because this is not exactly a tough ride compared to whats available here in the Cape.
  10. Thanks guys...this all makes sense. Bottom line no quick fix, no such thing as a free lunch, stay disciplined and hope it gets easier.
  11. Ok maybe im just stupd but could you please explain to me exactly how the calculator works? What exactly is it comparing? The only thing I can do is place my wheel diameter
  12. I have a Specialized XC Pro dualie, which I am going to respray as well. Today after my next ride I will dismantle the bike tomorrow. Fit the components to my old silverback frame and start the prep with removing and preparing the bike for respray. I have ordered a SRAM 2X10 group set from Buycycle and cant waite! I tried the permatex on a powder coated (Manatou black fork). It softens the powder coating to the point where you can scratch it of with a finger nail but unlike the automotive paint does not just bubble and drop off on its own. will post before and after pics.
  13. Ok Luke now were geeting somewhere! This makes sense. I will try the cnamon suggestion too. Yep I like my Coffee. Have 2 cups a day. The thing is just to curb the hunger pangs man. I have followed weight watchers points system and yep it works to a point. But how many fu#$@ weeks will it take for my body to adjust and drop the hunger pangs and cravings? Will I have to live like this for the rest of my life or just accept that I will be a fit fat bloke for the rest of my life? It HARD man HAAARD . I use to think its only a matter of exercse but now at 38 I can see that erm 1 hour training sesions every day during the festive season and eat healthy foods as much as you feel like does not = weght loss.
  14. Tried your suggestion of Permatex Cylinder Head Gsket remover. R70 a tin. Thank you..man that stuff is NAAASTY Forget 15 minutes for normal automoitive paint..5 minutes and the paint bubbles and drops of the metal before your eyes..EISH IS LAAIK MAJIK!! Heaven forbid some school kid gets hold of it and sprays peoples cars.
  15. I have a problem. I know that to loose weight in a sustainable manner and keep it off I need lots of exercise, a proper controlled calorie intake that does not rely on "weight loss" products pills and shakes. And a healthy well balnaced diet. That is easier said than done! I just cant seam to rid my lard ars of the last 8kg of my ideal weight. I think its got to do with my hunger cravings. If i fight it it goes away but shi%$ its hard man. Much tougher than the hardest ride! Does anyone have suggestions tips etc to stop these damn hunger bouts?
  16. Does anyone have a route profile and how much climbing is involved with the red route? Was just curiouse to know the meters climbed for the red route.
  17. Yep this sure would be an interesting stat. Pedal Power keep stats for bike accidents. I think I will e-mail them to see if they record such info. What would be useful to know also is exactly how a rider was clipped? For example ..If they riding in a bunch on a road with a wide shoulder and said bunch were riding multiple riders abreast etc.
  18. Guys guys guys...... Lets rephrase the question. Is it safe riding any road with no shoulder where you the rider is forced to share the same space with cars? OR Is its safe riding a road with no shoulder where the rider shares the same space with cars where the road also contains many twists and turns? OR Is it safe riding a road with no shoulder where you the rider has to share the same space on a road with many twists and turns of which road also offers stunning scenery to distract the concentration of motorists spending time admiring the beutifull scenery? OR Is it safe riding a road with no shoulder where you the rider has to share the same space as cars on a road that tempts motorcyclists and people in "fast" cars with fur on the dash board to "push the corners" because it is so twisty? This Gordans bay to Rooi Els is exactly what is described above. Maybe some of you have riden this road 3 times a week for years with no incident yet..... but that does not make it a safe road.Remember it is the festive season and tis road is allot bussier than usual. FOOL YOURSELF AT YOUR OWN PERIL.
  19. If they have guerntees then go for it!
  20. What about no clips, simply just flats? For technical single track get rid of the damn clips for the most liberating ride of your life. Try it some time and THINK ABOUT IT. Dont come with this cods wollop of push and pull..next time you ride think about whether you are realy "pulling". Unless your out the saddle you are not realy pulling are you? Push the envelope because you know when you come of you can bail and you have much more confidence for drop offs etc. Now days I ride everything on my good old tackies and leave the clips for my road riding sesions.
  21. And how are the bike shops supose to earn a living if everybody goes DIY?
  22. SUBARU aint much better either. 100 000km major service set me back R12000, for a 1.5l non turbo Impreza hatchback. Standard service is R1800-R3000 depending. Then the service is every 12500km instead of R15000. Point is, I got the car, I like the car....but I can guarentee you I aint buying another one. Purely out of principle and the sneaky way Subaru loaded the price. Thanks no more fancy shmancy cars for me..I will get a polo or a toyota yaris. I have had some good reports on Toyota withsorting problems on cars out of warenty. Previously VW were reasonably priced but they too had their faults(workmanship and some dishonesty). However on the whole I had reliable service and cars with no chance taking. They said it would be "big" well boet you kind of expect R5000 but then R12000. At the end of the day dealers and mechani are sharks... Know and believe it, because almost evry single one of them have screwed me over one way or another.
  23. My wife sprayed some on my middle leg but it wouldnt stop the swelling
  24. Excuse my ignorance but what is microdotting?

PM my as julle die dag lus voel vir n paar huure se prett . Ek is in Sommerset Wes.
