  1. Ok. Actually now you guys made me remember that show. Completely forgot about that one. I just started cycling and me and a friend of mine went there with our bikes to save the feet a bit.
  2. Seems like it might be that we will be forced to FE. In that case we still have 2 RA funds that needs to be cashed in then. Right?
  3. If I remember correctly it was flown by a woman as well.
  4. There was only one air show where those birds were there all together .... 1995. The 75th birthday celebration of the SAAF. I still remember it very well as I just started to work in IT and wanted to take leave for the air show but did not have any leave built up yet.
  5. I still remember quite a bit of that first flight. We flew on the 747SP from Joburg around Africa to Madrid, then Zurich and then the last hop to Vienna. The last hop was the coolest as the aircraft was at most a third of the passengers still onboard as all the rest got off in Madrid and Zurich. It was an hour of running around the plane and checking out views from different windows. The funny part was landing in Vienna as I was taken off the plane first by ground crew. They took me directly to the arrivals terminal to meet my grandma. So as I got the arrivals there was a huge glas panel/wall with people behind it, and the guy told me ... who is you grandma. Problem is I saw my grandma the last time as I was 5. The first thing that crossed my mind was "O fark". Luckily a small old lady came running from the side shouting my name. I told the guy that I think that is my grandma.
  6. I noticed that and always wondered why. Thanks for that info.
  7. My first ever flight was at age 9. Went to visit my Grandmother on my own in Austria.
  8. Or there the few who are not commuting in Cape Town
  9. Well the snow has stopped and we have some clear weather our way. The only problem is with no clouds the temps drop a bit. But maybe ... just maybe if there is not ice on the road I might get on the board next week with 1 maybe 2 commutes. Holding thumbs here.
  10. I actually looked but did not recognise the flag
  11. We had the G8 summit not far from where we live (50 odd km) in the Alps not long after we came to Germany. For pretty much a week I had a air show over my house with loads of military aircraft flying over our house. Even F16's.
  12. I bought a good waterproof jacket three years ago. The problem though is that in most cases especially in summer you sweat so much under the jacket that you get just as wet. I actually bought rain covers for my cycling shoes, although when the humidity is bad my feet also sweat quite a bit with that on. Other than that if it is not too cold I just make sure my backpack with the laptop in has its rain cover on and then continue in the rain. Last summer I hit several showers where it was raining so hard, you actually cycle into this wall of water. It actually becomes fun as long as there is no ligthing.
  13. Seeing the Red Arrows at the '95 Waterkloof Air show will is be one of my highlites in life. All the tricks they did at rapid speed while you see images of the Ramstein accident in the back of your head.
  14. Been surprised a few times last summer but sudden showers with lightning. It made me wonder where is the safest if there are no buildings around to take cover. In the forests you are near trees that could get hit, or out of the forest in the open where you are highest point. But in theory you should be isolated as you are on rubber tires. So I just continued cycling while my ass keeps biting into my shorts everytime there is a lightning flash. I suppose the good thing is as long as you hear thunder then you are okay. Also got hit once last year by hail. But managed to take cover at a building entrance but not after one or two pieces of ice said hi to me.
  15. We just had a good shower of snow with guess what ... Lightning. Was not expecting that.
  16. I hate panniers. I carry pretty much the same as you on my commutes (35 km) and yes the bag needs to be rinsed out due to sweat but I feel that panniers stuffs up my centre of gravity.
  17. The A340-600 does take quite a few PAX more but with those thrusty engines there is much to gain from it.
  18. Explains why the SAA flight to MUC is now also a A330 and not the A340-600
  19. BA has three flights to JHB and two to Cape Town. I think JHB is a A380, 747 and a 777 if I am not mistaken
  20. As soon as we dig out of the snow .... I have some serious catching up to do.
  21. BA fly daily between London and CT with a 747. 2 Flights actually ... BA43 and BA59 of which both are serviced by B747 aircraft. They land the morning and return the evening.
  22. I was going to ask the same question. The first time my mother-in-law came to visit us was with SAA and last year she flew with Qatar. She said she would rather fly the longer flights with Qatar than SAA as the SAA aircraft sounded like "Rammelkaste". Now she flew with the B777 and the A350. She was very impressed with especially the A350.
  23. @Wannabe. Jammer om te hoor
