  1. Has anyone used http://www.onyourbike.co.za/ (Steven Shirley) as a training coach? It looks like he is from a cycling background and moved to triathlons. I am looking for a coach that can help me with mostly mountain biking but also help with training for triathlons. I have tried to contact another coach but the response time to questions is a bit to long for me. Nothing wrong with the coach, I think I am just a little bit too impatient. I mailed Steven and he replied within 10 minutes. I will appreciate your input. Thanks
  2. Hi Maryke Ek het vir jou n e-pos gestuur laas week Woensdag. Het jy dit gekry? Eugene
  3. Maybe save up an extra R500 and get the Momsen AL129. Not to shabby specs and it is proudly SA
  4. I see that this light look similar to the Magicshine range, but it’s a different brand. Does anyone use this light? I know the Magicshine lights are rated very high but how does these compare? http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/bicycle-light-1000-lums
  5. ROAG No group ride No club kit You can get you license Very Very cheap
  6. From where the gravel road starts in Atterbury, carry on for about 1km on the gravel road till you get to a massive half built house on you left. I think its Zwavelpoort estate. Turn left there. There will be about 100m of tar, but keep going down the hectic downhill. Take the first gravel road to your right. You will get to a crossing. Go over the crossing and you will find a nice technical rocky decent. At the bottom of the decent there is a ‘spruit’ go thorough it and carry on straight. You will then get to another crossing. From here you can either turn left to go back on the gravel road or carry on straight to ‘The bitch’ climb.
  7. There where you turned left coming back from Mooikloof, you can turn right as well. That piece of singletrack will take you to Atterbury. You can then turn right into Atterbury and that will take you to the gravel roads of Zwavelpoort
  8. Thank Tubleweed. My bad
  9. Go Conrad!! http://www.bicycling.co.za/articles/armstrong-vs-the-caveman
  10. There are many routes (with some nasty climbs) in that area. From Hans Strydom, take Atterbury towards Zwawelpoort. About 2km from the ‘Plant park’ the tar ends. Then its gravel all the way. There are so many roads and singletrack there. If you combine it with the other side of Lynwood, then you can easily do in access of 80km just without any tar If you don’t know the area, I would recommend joining the Singletrack shop group rides on Saturday. They cycle in that area
  11. Thanks Drongo. That's what my first questions to him was as well, but he did take the bike for a spin. How far do you think he should go before it picks the speed up? I would think that 1km should do the trick or should it be more?
  12. Thanks, I'll ask him to post a pick. He did however follow the manual that says 4mm and even went to the point where it was virtually touching.
  13. A buddy of mine got his Polar CS200 today and installed it on his bike. Its picking up his HR but not the speed/distance. The magnet and sensor is directly underneath the monitor and within the recommended distance. Did/does anyone have a similar issue? According to the instruction manual everything seems to be according to the spec. Seeing that the unit is new & the HR works, what can wrong?
  14. I need some advice from the more tar loving side of cycling. I only have a mountain bike and have only done mountain biking until a year ago when I started with sprint triathlons. The triathlon and duatlon bug has bitten and I now want to get a road bike as well in order to beter my times in the sprint triathlons as well as start participating in the olympic distances In this months Bicycling magazine I read on the new designs in road bikes that is more ‘aero’. So after a bit of research I set my sights on the Felt AR5. The reason for this is that the amount of training and riding that I will be doing, I think that a 105 groupset is enough. I also want to use the bike for some road events like the Argus and 94.7. I have also started doing some long intervals on the road with my mountain bike in preparation for stage racing (M.T.B. events). Would it rather be beter to get a cheaper TT bike and a cheaper road bike? Some opinions I have heard said its a waist and I should rather get 2 bikes. What is your opinion on the aero design (and more specific the AR5) for the purpose I want to use it? http://www.feltbicycles.com/South-Africa/2012/Road/AR-Series/AR5.aspx
  15. I am on Symbicord 160. I use it once in the mornings and once at night. I still find that when I do interval training I need to take my Ventolin inhaler after the first interval session but other than that I dont have alot of issues on rides. When I do suffer from a cold I get the Meticorten tablets ready and I dont train for a week or so. I just find that I have a much higher heart rate that people that doesnt suffer from asthma
  16. That sounds like a really great idea for a Monday morning! I whish….
  17. Jip, same here. The clip on caused alot of paint damage to my car. Mostly where it clips in at the top of the boot. I am taking my car to chips-away and then I'm gonna get a towbar hang on. You cant really see the damage but I know its there
  18. I got the Niner news letter this morning. I see they have a new Air 9 and updated the EMD as well
  19. I heard that there is a triathlon held annually at the Groot-Marico dam, but I can not find any info on the web. Does anyone have a link to some info?
  20. Small Patch kit
  21. This is very interesting. I have never thought of it like that. But if I can say, I think swimming takes more training than running which in turn needs more training than cycling. But it will be interesting to see what ratio the pro’s do. Any pro's on here that are willing to share?
  22. Good morning peeps I am following this topic with interest. I want to start with short touring next year as well. Why would you recommend getting a touring specific bike? Cant you just use one of those trailers that fits to you standard MTB? I see some of the touring bikes have a shock damping system that helps with the bags on the back, but this wont be needed in the case of a trailer. Do you think a touring specific bike is needed for the short trips (about 5 days)? When we came back from the Groot Marico race yesterday, I saw a dude and dudette with there touring bikes heading in the direction of Botswana on the N4 just past Rustenburg. It looked Awesome! The didn’t have the trailer setup and all the bags were mounted to the bike. I sure would rather be one of them at this moment rather behind the keyboard. Then back to the original topic: Do you plan on using road or off road? Will you be camping or using guesthouses/hotels/B&B’s?
