  1. What AVG speed are you looking at?
  2. I used the app on my iPhone and got less than 3hours of battery after being charged 89%. So is it safe to assume that you will not get more than 4hrs out off your iPhone? The pep talk was switched off and the screen was locked. How can I turn the auto upload off on the iPhone? I tried searching the web but couldn't get any answers. I have read through the posts but can not see of my question has been posted before so apologies if I missed it
  3. I would do it for free as I am going to be there every day anyway. A meet and greet as Stretch says would be great. Access to accommodation and then obviously proper training. Like most cyclist I understand what effort the pro's put in, so I don’t want to stuff something up on D day. Then maybe you can organise and annual membership to Cycling SA or a cycling park like Karkloof, Holla or Groenies for us here in GP? That would be cool. Please dont let this just fade away. Keep us updated as to where we can apply.
  4. OK, what I usually do is From Equestria I cycle to Groenies, do a lap there and return over Klapperkop, Rigel and then through Moreleta on De Villa Bois. Then I head out on Atterbury and do the Zwavelpoort plotte. Up to here is 80km. Then from the plotte go over Lynwood past the Chicken farm and do the gravel roads on the Hazeldean side of Lynwood (include the railway line). Its about 100km or maybe a bit more
  5. Just did my entry for the race. Eina!!
  6. Great info! Thanks Mojoman Is this section tar or gravel?
  7. Thnaks for the feedback. Can you maybe give me some directions if I go over Breedtneks from the Hekpoort side?
  8. I saw on facebook one of the AR clubs did a ride at Breedtsnek & Olifantsnek. Its a 110km ride. I know where Breedtsnek is, but I would like to include Olifantsnek for a nice long ride Anyone that can help?
  9. 68%. Never done the Argus
  10. Jip, I had to pay a fee for entering the TrailSeries race through entrytime
  11. I have also searched but can not find a descent shop in GP. I think the best bet is to order from CRC. They have a nice selection of topeak panniers, but unfortunately you have to go by the pics
  12. Anyone know if there is a place where I can rent some panniers, bags, tent etc.... for touring before I take the leap and spend all the mula?
  13. I see they have a nice special on today:
  14. Anyone know of a nice route for a 3day tour? I was thinking of heading to Mpumalanga from PTA. Maybe to Ezemvelo Nature reserve close to Bronkies or something like that. Just to get started with touring How do you guys plan your trips? How do you know what is gravel roads and what are not? Google maps just shows a yellow line and that doesn’t tell me much. I want to do as much off road as possible My buddy & I have never done an unsupported tour, so I think a short 3day/2night trip can be lekker. I am thinking of staying in B&B/self catering cause I don’t have a lot of gear yet. Anyone done a short similar tour? Even if I have to travel, leave the car and cycle from there (NW, MP, FS). I just want ot get n feel for everything before my wife and I explore the EC on bike next year
  15. For 5K I can recommend the Momsen AL129 (about R5500) & in the Bicyling mag this month there was a very good review on the Schwinn Moab for about R5200. The Momsen in a 29inch & the Schwinn a 26inch If you keep an eye on the Hub, you can also pick up 2nd hand bikes for very good deals and they are usually very well looked after. Just keep in mind that you will need allot of extra gear as well. A helmet, cycling shoes, shorts, tools and for the 60km adventure races a hydration pack will be very handy as well. Then the small stuff like a light (for racing in the dark) and a map board. It just makes life allot easier on the bike.
  16. This is a very difficult question, as I don’t know your budget. First of all you will have to get some kind of indication what your budget is. Then secondly, what type of riding you are going to do. I do some adventure racing as well, and if you are going to do the short races then a hardtail will be fine. If you are looking at the longer 120 km & 240 km races then I would strongly recommend a dual suspension. With the longer races I would also recommend looking into a bike than is more trail orientated than XC. After 10hours of running and riding, comfort plays a big part. With the longer ones reliability is a major issue because you don’t want to get stuck in the middel of nowhere with a broken 12kg piece of metal to carry around. Unfortunate all this comes with a premium I know that when you buy your first bike, the budget is always tight. There is a great value for money South African brand called Momsen. I would recommend going for the AL 529 if your are going to stick to the shorter race. They have a range of dual suspensions as well.
  17. So? Has anyone made some plans yet? Even for a short 3 or 4 day tour? These panniers looks like nice options: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=28792 or for shorter trips just this one with a backpack: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=37970
  18. Is there nowhere on the web we can follow the race? Please!!
  19. The Caveman!! It would be great if Dan could take 2nd. With the form of Dan lately it is possible
  20. A night ride could also be great in that area
  21. What kind of experience? Even IT in the motor industry?
  22. Sorry ment to post on a different topic, but still keen on the short touring.
