  1. My first Sabie classic. It was my second marathon ever and I totally underestimated those mountains. Bonked 20km into the 75km so I had to battled 55km home through the Sabie mountains. I thin bonk took on a totally new meaning Spend almost 6hrs in the saddle. After the ride I was in such a bad condition that I considered going to hospital.
  2. I had the problem (read skid marks in my shorts) the first time I went to Mankele. I took the wrong turn and ended up on the downhill route. I was like WTH!! I have major respect for the Downhill riders. You are insane!!
  3. it just that sometimes you get this blue buffalo on a nose walk with a hit cheese and then you might want to nest in a big muscle where your HR eats tyre all in the form of yolk. This happend next to the river tree in Greenland

  7. I want to do a M.T.B. ride along the railway line from Olifantsfontein (starting at the R21) and ending at Silverlakes in PTA. east. Does anyone ride along these railway lines or are they part of the notorious hijack route in Centurion? I am a bit concerned about the safety but it the route will be ideal after a swim at Lesure lakes (Base 3).
  8. Always take some moola. You newer know where they might hide a nice little bar Get one of those brackets that fit behind your waterbottle that you can screw your bombs into. It think its like R29. No cling cling noises.
  9. For camping, try Mbizi
  10. That is a nice budget to start with. My sister has a Merida Juliet 1000 ( its a WSD) and my wife has a Cannondale Trail SL3 WSD. They are both very happy with them. The Merida has very good spec, but if your wife is really tiny (like mine) I think the Cannondale would suite her a bit better. I also think your wife will like the look of the Merida http://www.merida-bikes.com/en_za/bike/2012/32/MTB+Hardtail/Juliet+1000-D
  11. Have you considered a cx bike? Then you can go off road a bit when needed (you know how some road user are)
  12. I am seriously considering getting some buddies together and attempting this XCO thing How many laps will the seniors and the sub-vets be doing? Will I (sub-vet) still be on course by the time the elite men start. If so, wont that be a pain for the elites that has to pass me? How many lap will the sub-vet ladies do? I think my wife will also be keen
  13. That is so true. They just don't understand why I am walking so funny today
  14. First, I want to agree with all the posts. It was hard. Very very hard. I have done 3 Sabie’s and this one was the hardest of them all. I do however kind of like the fact that it was that tough. I think Sabie is one of those races where you go to suffer. You know that it going to be hard and you could feel the tension at the start. I think Sabie is the one race that I go to every year and see if I can tame the beast. It puts me in a spot where every race for the remainder of the year feels easy. All that said, I remember after 30km of climbing I thought to myself: Still bloody 45km to go! What the hell! I saw a lot of people cramping up (including me). The route was brutal. The water points brilliant (especially the 3rd one). Markers spot on and those cool stream/water crossings saved my life. Taking a dip was the best part of my whole day. I did the 40km with my wife the next day as well and I saw some people suffer there as well. Some of those 40km riders really puts in a lot of effort and I congratulate each and every finisher. If you have done Sabie, you can suffer.
  15. We usually spin at the Virgin Active in Hazeldean. One of the instructors, Tonya, is really good. Try to attend one of her classes and you will see
  16. Jip most of them are expensive. I did see some cheap NB Tri shorts this weekend at the NB store for about R560 and I remember that I paid R350 for my TYR shorts about a year ago. But those 2XU and Orca can get reaaaaallly expensive.
  17. First, get yourself a pair of Tri shorts. They are worth the moola. Its like a cycling short but with a very small chamois. Regular cycling shorts are really a bad idea to run it. Nasty chaffing. Then the transitions: Practice it at home. Set up your bike so that you can chuck on a shirt (if you do not swim in a tri suite or top), then your helmet, socks and shoes. Be sure to lay out a towel out to wipe your feet if you are going to put socks on. There will be grass or something on your feet. Then out where it says 'Bike Out' or to where you are directed. You can only mount after a certain point. Usually from below the bike out banner. Then when you are coming back from the bike, be sure to dismount before going into the transition. Once again, there should be a board that says 'Bike In'. Off with the cycling shoes and then the helmet, on with the running shoes. Out where it says 'Run Out' or where directed. On to victory!! I am not 100% sure if it says Bike out/in at Xterra but I know it does for the Sasol series. I think at Xterra we were just directed by marshals
  18. Small hijack: I agree prices are getting out of hand. This week I saw that the Kinetic adventure 25km sprint race is R600 + a R50 admin fee. That is R650 for a team of two (325 per person) for only 25km. And why the R50 admin fee? Isn't admin included in the race organizing? hijack off

  20. I did my entry today and thought that if you do the marathon you get a discounted price for the half marathon the next day, but I paid full price. Did I mis something or was the discounted price only for last year?
