  1. Shimano Alfine 8-speed internal gear hub laced to a Flow rim. The epitome of durability
  2. Some nice parts which became wheels last night. Kore Realm 2.7 rims (27mm internal width) laced with Pillar 2.0-1.5-2.0 spokes and black brass tapergrip nipples and the always sweet Hope Pro4 hubs
  3. Sexier if it was left as a SS, IMO
  4. Just a small correction on the AM wheels spec sheet. The Pillar spokes are 2.0 / 1.8 / 2.0 (not 1.0) These are amazing wheels and I can't wait to build my first set!
  5. Just done my second build using Dartmoor Raider rims. These are nice and wide (24mm inner) and super-strong. And cheap. This set is for a DJ bike and is now with the owner in Middelburg.
  6. My customer bought them from CRC
  7. J-bend. There's no advantage to having straight-pull spokes. The spokes are also cheaper and more readily available. In my opinion.
  8. Just built up an awesome wheel set. New Stans Arch Mk3 on hope hubs with Pillar 14/15 spokes and brass nipples. Came together like a dream
  9. me too. lol
  10. Parts drop off location is at PWC Cycle Park.
  11. Spinning spokes really POP the top off. It's my fav party trick.....
  12. I love ZTR rims but.....The new Stans rims will sell for about R500 more than an equivalent (weight, width) rim from Spank or WTB which are easily as strong. I've built loads of Spanks and WTB's onto various hubs and they're great. If you're not prepared to wait for the new Mk3 rims to arrive and are looking for an alternative, consider the WTB KOM, Frequency and Spank offerings.
  13. About 5,5km. The race leaders run over the dog walkers so us tail-enders aren't bothered by them.
  14. There isn't one, as far as I could see, so let's start a wheel building thread. (Maybe admins want to pin this?) This is the thread for anyone wanting info on wheel building, for anyone who builds wheels and for all guys who may want to learn this art.
  15. Anyone need wheels for Eroica? I have the following I'll part with for not too much money: Front wheel - Shimano 105 hub laced to a Mavic MA2 (red and green decal) Rear Wheel - Dura Ace hub laced to Mavic SUP CD rim (126mm spacing) I have an old and scruffy Hansom frame, 55cm as well if anyone's interested:
  16. 780mm bars and 90mm stem. I'm 180cm on a Medium frame.
  17. I have a 24-inch wheeled Giant MTB ready to be donated. If you know of a really short guy or a kid from an underprivileged background that could use the bike, let me know.
  18. OOOOh nice! Where and $$???
  19. The wife's Solaris as the build finished.
  20. tell me more - maybe I can help....
  21. The suspense must be killing you
  22. Same happened to me on Wednesday. Drivers are oblivious and in reality it's up to us to be awake and aware. Another thing, at a red light, a lady rolled straight through the red and when I "asked" her if she was blind, she said: yes I am. FFS
  23. I pay for insurance so I can't afford a gun......
