  2. From an Australian experience. I was contacted via LinkedIn. It is widely used in Aus and I would imagine also in NZ. Tip - Update your LinkedIn and start making contact with industry peers. The rest is difficult to answer as I then was offered a job and a contract provided a few weeks after a third and final Skype interview. Important; always dress for the occasion as they do use video calling functionality in these interviews. So don't be tempted to only put a collared shirt on as you may be asked to stand or get something which will require standing. You don't want to be caught with your pants down. Based on friends who moved after me; it's a big help knowing people or having at least made contact with them. The short of finding a job is knowing people more often than not. I have been able to assist three friends with jobs by talking to people around and they mention they need a skill and then I put their names forward. Companies are far more interested in someone if they are recommended and can be vetted. One of those friends I put forward was hired based solely on a Skype interview as well. Tip - make contact with old school friends and again, LinkedIn contacts dropping hints that you're looking at moving over. Based on knowledge from conversations, the majority of people draw the proverbial line in the sand, sell up and move over. They then work on finding a job once in the country. Start off with Airbnb short term, i.e. 1 - 3 months and then once grounded, find a more permanent accommodation solution. There are jobs but it might not initially be in the same position you were in. My pet-peeve is that you don't have Australian/New Zealand experience. Once you get that foot in the door, other companies will be contacting you left, right and centre. Strange place; they won't touch you and after only 3 or so months in a job, you'll be getting almost fortnightly contacts from recruiters of employers.
  3. I'm in the same boat and will be closing the CC account when back in JHB in November. Tired of paying R150 odd per month for nothing. The card won't work in Aus as they can only activate roaming on it for six months. That ended a long time ago. Planning on dropping to the lowest account as well to further minimise monthly costs. Another thing I may try is online booking for a driver license. Picking up will be an issue but worth trying it. I wonder what JMPD etc. will think of an Aus driver license as my ZA license has expired.
  4. That's a nice idea. I'll have to give my shoes a clean first and will then look at doing that.
  5. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who gets nailed by the wheel/toe overlap on the road bike. Another reason to either get white or black shoes; it's easier to patch the rub marks on the toe box.
  6. I had my bikes washed and boxed at the LBS for Australia. My road bike was inspected by Customs and Quarantine. No problems.
  7. Marz is a great guy! I've only had happy dealings with him.
  8. Congrats! From experience, it takes that little bit of pressure off you.
  9. Congratulations, Hayley!
  10. Far out! I will happily and willingly learn how to ride a motorbike and get my open license just to do something like that! Beautiful.
  11. How did you discover that out of all who wrote, only two candidates achieved a score of 7? Results are not put up on a notice board to my knowledge. To review my result I was required to log in to the IELTS website as memory serves.
  12. Yes. Did it in JHB before heading over. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Which site or retailer did you use? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I'm not completely familiar with the requirements currently as I did this about 7 months ago but do check whether the finger prints need to be in electronic or physical format. My prints had to be in ink on paper, as if they were being taken at a SAPS station in JHB somewhere.
  15. Yes, well from Aus. I used DocAssist. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I decided to splash out on a Pioneer dual side power meter. Pushys online store had a good discount sale which convinced me to jump in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Pushys is pretty big.
  18. Potentially referring to the extended seat post and drop to bars. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I've put in a few hundred km's on my Anthem now. I can firmly say it's an amazingly capable and fun bike to ride. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Thanks. That's a terrible situation to have gone through for them. I hope they can setup some sort of normal life again. To have invested so much in a life here and then be sent packing must be a terribly bitter pill to have to swallow. Now you got to get this side G!
  21. Given that I am in a different country, I agree with you. You're most likely all aware of the changes Peter Dutton has made across the puddle from you. My employer has engaged the services of an agent to fast track my work visa to PR here. They're not prepared to have me negatively impacted after taking the time and spending the money to get me here. My paperwork should be lodged before the end of this month. I'm waiting for new SAPS clearance certificate (DocAssist doing the running around after fleecing me a few R'000) which will then be added to the submitted application.
  22. Watch out they don't try have a drink. Wouldn't be cool sharing a mouth-piece with a monkey
  23. Had a good little spin around the local crit track. Yes it's flat and yes it's repetitive but it can still hurt you.
  24. Road yesterday, dirt today. Bunyaville did not disappoint. Great weekend. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Had a lovely morning spin on the river loop route, in Brisbane. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
