Got to agree about being aware. I ride with a cycling buddy and if we come across "pedestrians" off the beaten path, then I will always have a quick glance over my shoulder when we pass them. One can never be to complacent. A while ago we ended up taking a wrong turn and popped out on the very edge of the Walmer location on a Saturday afternoon. We rode through there as if we where doing a sprint finish with a very elevated heart rate.

I have thought about a telescopic baton. Problem is they normally rattle and that would drive me nuts.
