What is the reason for the minimum time for the E Bikes?

I ride a motorcycle and the older I get the less tolerant I am of big group rides. Someone asked me if I will be one of the 4500 on this ride. I said hell no, to many hooligan irresponsible bikers in close proximity make me nervous.

On a recent trip to Patensie with my Rocket, my cycling mate on his Gs650, my son hated the ride on his R1. The puncture also did not help. 180km round trip and he all of a sudden did not enjoy his R1. 4 days later the deal was done. Rode to the bike shop on his R1 and came back on a KTM1290. He has ridden the KTM more in 3 weeks than he did the R1 in 6 months. Every ride he comes back with his ears in his mouth he is smiling so much.

Busy investigating this.

Or the Triumph 1200 when it comes to shaft drive dual purpose bike.

One lesson learnt from this is that we are hopelessly under prepared for this type of thing which is something that will be remedied.

So yesterday we took a ride out to Patensie. As we about to leave my son notices his R1's tyre is flat. A friendly 4x4 dude who is also a biker offered his compressor. Pumped the tyre and it went flat again. Piece of metal in the tyre. When I tried a shorter stem, for some strange reason it felt like my legs could not get the power down like they used to. Went back to a slightly longer stem and all was fine again.

Mechanic warned me awhile back that the pads were wet. Brake lever goes to the bars and zero brakes.

Leaking at the calipers

My front brakes are leaking fluid. Is this serviceable and if yes, I assume service kits are available?

A friend tells a story of how many years ago, riding down from JHB to PE, he used a open face helmet. Got to Bloem and could not take the wind and cold, so at the Wimpy he organized with a waitress for a dish towel to cover his face and use as a mask. Rode the rest of the way with a strong smell of hamburger and chips in his nose 😀😀

When bombing down a road on a downhill at 60km/h plus on the MTB I often think when on the motorbike, I always have full kit. Yet here I am on a bicycle doing 60+ in shorts and a cycling top and open helmet. You fall at 60 on a MTB or motorbike the result is the same. Things I ponder while riding
