  1. Hmm, I'd post pics but that doesn't seem to want to work, keep getting errors, terminal coolness it must be.
  2. Yeah, there is a tool used to get the drive body out.
  3. An axle vice is a vice that grips an axle. Have a look on the Park Tool site and you'll see. As far as the Onyx hubs go, I don't know, I know the rear hub is different to the 240 S am, the front might operate on the same principal of just yanking the end off. And do try to not crush the end caps, they're not made to be gripped by pliers.
  4. You all know what time it is!<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> That?s right it?s hammer time! Well, kinda, it?s actually Critical Mass time. When: This coming Friday the 27th of March 2009. Where: There are 2 meeting points, Point A being at the Baxter at 06:45, and Point B being at the CTICC at 07:15. How: Well, we ride our bikes from the Baxter go over the Mowbray bridge (Durban Road) then hook along Liesbeek Parkway into Lower Main road into town. Then we head down Adderley street until we get to the turn off for the CTICC, pick up the troops and continue our March through the waterfront, out the other side onto Beach road all the way to the border of Sea Point, then we head back into town along Main road Green Point and then all head off to work. It got going like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Critical_Mass And here we are on the international list: http://criticalmass.wikia.com/wiki/Cape_Town Why: Hmm, always the interesting question. Essentially what we?re hoping to achieve is to educate drivers that there is viable way to commute to work and that they don?t have to sit in their cars and be miserable all the way through to work. So, in this regard, we wear what we?re going to be wearing at work. Pretty simple idea, ?eh? Also hopefully this helps get us on the radar for Southern Suburbs transport system, at this point there is a proposed cycling corridor from the North but not from the South. Who: Well, everyone, if you ride a bike it should be your duty to be there, if you want to make at least some sort of difference, even if it?s not huge at least it?s a start, it creates debate and it allows us to educate others that what we do is not only practical and better but pretty bloody cool to. Right then, see you all on Friday then? Send this out to anyone and everyone, whether they care or not.
  5. DavidTinker, those are actually DT Swiss 240 S hubs, pretty simple really, stick the end in an axle vice and pull it off, it should come off pretty easily and you should just be able to tap the bearings out.
  6. I've only ever cut the sidewalls on the SWorks version and not on the Control version.
  7. Been using the non UST version on my 29'er for more than a year now, my favourite race tyre at this point.

Does your wife know you're posting pictures of her on the interweb?
  9. For those interested check out www.thedailyfix.co.za race report plus some cool pics from last night and our previous meeting are up.
  10. What's the Pizza for? We have Johnnys Roti's that make a mean chip and triple cheese right around the corner from there and besides eating is cheating, that's what the beer is for.
  11. Allycat race? Kinda but we can't call it that because none of us are messengers, that would just make us fakengers, we just find a block somewhere, rock up, drink some beer and race around it for 5 minutes (+1 lap) then we have a skid comp, then we ride up to the beer spot to go drink some more beer, good night out.
  12. Just look for a normal quill stem, it's a fixie, it doesn't need special stuff.
  13. bar and stem..stickers.....some flashtastic lights we had some underground racing last night in obs. Who knew that there's a rush hour at 8:44pm on our course? brake kinda comes in handy when a corsa lite comes out of the dark. i heard about thiswho won? Santa Dave took it, I got switched twice by cars in a not so nice manner, it'll be up on www.thedailyfix.co.za a little later today.
  14. Buy the cheapest best bike you can get your hands on, people spend way to much money on this sort of thing, you can be competitive with alot less.
  15. The guy that won the 24 hour SS world champs (and the guy that came 2nd), used a 32-20 gearing on 29'ers. With normal wheels I think the 2-1 ratio is normally used, so a 32-16.
  16. Hey HR, a mate of mine has that exact bike, it's pretty cool actually. All you need to do is flip the bar, cut it off make it fixed and take the back brake off.
  17. Yeah, my favourite pair of Assos has been doing service since the 2006 Trans Baviaans, got a new pair last year as well, both still rock.
  18. The hoses themselves have different external and internal diameters to you normal hoses, they've done away with the olives as well.
  19. Use the Goodridge fittings, don't even bother trying with anything else.
  20. Naah, sale of my other 29'er fell through so I couldn't get this one. Woulda been cool but alas so be it.
  21. Convert to tubeless and put fatter takkies on as well, like a 2.3, that sort of region will go long way towards making it a little better.
  22. It tends to keep the *** in more than it keeps the *** out.
  23. A few years ago I rode a steel Scapin (not mine), it was the most beautiful bike I have ever ridden, it still keeps me awake at night. Steel frame, carbon record, Neutron wheels, weighed 7 kg's, and it was a beautiful ride, nothings come close since.
  24. He only does steel as far as I know, not too sure he'll be using the latest stuff though?
