  1. To be honest, I still prefer the Fox that's on the Titus but it's more than double the price and I just couldn't justify it.
  2. I found I didn't really like racing the GF 29'er, the suspension bobbed to much for the way I ride. I think the GF Ht's are better though, maybe look at a hardtail 29'er, something like the On One with a Reba 29er on the front is a no brainer.
  3. I'm 1.91 and race a 29er Titanium Titus Racer-X, not the lightest out there but damn bullet proof. The 29'er ali version is pretty light but is still built to take a pounding.
  4. Done a fair bit of racing in the slop, I find what works is to go faster, as the roots change your direction your momentum tries to keep you going in the same direction at least.
  5. Yes! Good ride this morning, had about 30 peeps out, about half in suits and alot of fixies and some cool classic stylin' going on. Will get pics as soon as someone sends some through to me. Later.
  6. Hmm, gonna have to put my entry in here. Custom Built Titanium Titus Racer - X 29'er, Yumeya XTR brake lever, M960 XTR Calipers, X.0 shifting, Fox F29 RLC on the front, DT Swiss centreloc hubs laced to Stans ZTR 29'er rims with Sapim CX-Ray spokes, Thomson Masterpiece seatpost, Thomson Stem and USE carbon riser bar. She is a work of art beyond compare, coolest thing is the guy that built it phoned me from the States before he did it, bloody awesome I tell you.
  7. Yeah, last 1 was rained out, this 1 should get a better following. See ya all out there.
  8. The obligatory daily bump
  9. Right folks, summer is on the way, the entire transport industry keeps alternating their strike patterns so the roads are congested and the ?public? transport system doesn?t work anymore, all of this adds up to the fact that joining us for Critical Mass is the only logical step to take this Friday, in fact it?s the right thing to do!<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> You all know the CM deal by now I?m sure but just to recap: happens worldwide, last Friday of the month, promotes commuting, huge following (hence the mass part), it?s not a training ride, it?s a cool way to get around town and hook up with a few other cool people. Dust off the old bikes, build up a fixie, make a tall bike, what you ride doesn?t matter, what you wear matters even less. We leave from the Baxter 06:45 travel to town using Lower Main Road (sorry Paul nobody knows where Albert road is) and pick up the town side crew at the CTICC at about 07:15, then a quick trip through the V&A circling all the traffic circles on the way and out to Glengarrif road, where we head back along Green/Mouille Point main rd and stop for coffee generally at Vida, due to a lack of options. From here we disperse to our various jobs and continue about our day feeling happy, and generally better than those around us, I?m sure there?s a clinical disorder based on this feeling though. See you all this Friday morning then! Send this out to everyone you know, can I get a Hell Yeah!

    Frame Size

First of all good choice, secondly, you're gonna need to know how much reach you need in order to get the right frame size, VTT is the best way.
  11. This study is 8 years old? This is old research, I'm sure there is a more recent study on this?
  12. Yo man, got a Titut FS and an On One Scandal (both 29'er), thye both have 1" risers on, the only difference is the rider on the HT is 650mm wide and the riser on the FS is 640mm wide. Reason for this is because I run the On One as a single speed most of the time and I like the leverage for climbing. The drop and reach on both bikes is the same, the angles are slightly different so I've tried to normalise my position relative to the BB as much as possible on both bikes. Not sure if that's of any use?
  13. Check out www.thedailyfix.co.za we meet up every now and then and pretend to race each other drink beer. PM me your mail address and I can keep you in contact.
  14. Finally got round to it, here they are, haven't ridden it with gears for quite some time now, quite enjoying it.
  15. Right then all, tomorrow morning the weather is looking good for this, see you all.
  16. Got pics of it but now can't upload for some or other reason. Thug, I'm using the SRAM X.9 FD (Top Clamp) , clearance is pretty good.
  17. The weather is bad, I know, but it is going to improve to give us a nice clear run on Friday morning, be good to see you all for a nice mid winter ride in well kind of nice weather.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> When: This coming Friday the 26th of June 2009. Where: There are 2 meeting points, Point A being at the Baxter at 06:45, and Point B being at the CTICC at 07:15. How: Well, we ride our bikes from the Baxter go over the Mowbray bridge (Durban Road) then hook along Liesbeek Parkway into Lower Main (actually called Albert Road (thanks Paul)) road into town. Then we head down Adderley street until we get to the turn off for the CTICC, pick up the troops and continue our March through the waterfront, out the other side onto Beach road all the way to the border of Sea Point, then we head back into town along Main road Green Point and then all head off to work. It got going like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Critical_Mass And here we are on the international list (feel free to add comments): http://criticalmass.wikia.com/wiki/Cape_Town Why: Hmm, always the interesting question. Essentially what we?re hoping to achieve is to educate drivers that there is a viable way to commute to work and that they don?t have to sit in their cars and be miserable all the way through to work. So, in this regard, we wear what we?re going to be wearing at work. Pretty simple idea, ?eh? Who: Well, everyone, if you ride a bike it should be your duty to be there, if you want to make at least some sort of difference, even if it?s not huge at least it?s a start, it creates debate and it allows us to educate others that what we do is not only practical and better but pretty bloody cool to. Right then, see you all on Friday then? Send this out to anyone and everyone, whether they care or not.
  18. Hmm, a friend of mine used to race his ML at 10.9kg, with a Revelation on the front, that was a sweet bike.
  19. Yeah, was up in PMB the weekend of the National and the WC, was taken riding both weekends by some very knowledgable locals, mainly out in the Karkloof area, man, it was cool, some of the nicest rides I've had.
  20. Levett, what you say is 100% accurate, how that translates into the real world is that on a 29'er the granny ring now becomes a useful gear, whereas on my previous 26'ers I never used it.

    2 x 9 setup

  22. Been riding 29'ers for a few years now, I'm built like a 6 foot 3 monkey so bikes never really used to fit me anyway. It's nice to be able to ride "inside" a bike as opposed to being perched 2 meters above the bike. The bad in tight singletrack thing is related to the wheelbase, on my bikes the wheelbase was bloody long anyway, now I get a few advantages from this at least.
  23. Lost my camera at the World Cup, so now only have my cell phone to do the job, gonna try sort it out tonight.
  24. I want to bring the fixie gang in for a bit of a ride, won't be able to do wednesday the 27th though, that's Champion League final night and I'm really hoping the dodgy spaniards are gonna provide a beat down to the "Dive" Ronaldo.
