My cannndale flash Alu is pretty light just just over 10kg, but i paid about R22000 for it. Cannndale are known for their light alu frames, there was one 2nd hand on the hub yesterday still, i know you said "new", just my 2c use it dont use it....

No offence to attorneys, but currently they and builders are the people I like least in this world. you only have to ask yourself the following two questions, do you want to have a soft comfy ride or do you want to have a hard ride? I currently have a 29er hardtail but i think for the epic a DS 29er will be so much nicer, my 2c. I did the epic (2009) on a hardtail alu 26er, hardass!

Why would you wanna change from XTR's to SLR's, I see no point in doing that even "IF" the SLR's are slightly better.

I had the same problem, and yes its a comon problem with those brakes. I changed to different disc and pads and it was better. I dont know what it is with those Elixier CRs, I decided that i will never use Avid brakes again, but as it is I got the new avid elixcier 7's now and they dont have that squeel sound.
