  1. On second view I was rooting for the guy in the bakkie that came screaming through the intersection to make contact with that one guy
  2. Flip dis 1002km meer as ek die lockdown. Well done.
  3. We really got lucky with the CTCT this year. Literally missed another cancellation with a week.
  4. Went past him at Ocean View and was well impressed with his effort!! Would have loved seeing him taking on descents
  5. Silent during the first few groups perhaps, but by the time 4J got through there was a proper party, beers flowing and the whole shebang.
  6. Dare I even attempt to get this starteds so long
  7. Lack of information on this incident, as well as the one from the other day, is very concerning to me. We were out riding around there at 05h30 and could just as well have been us. Missus did mention when I told her about it this morning that she spotted a few guys sitting on the dunes
  8. Again I'll say this was not an easy ride even for moderately fit riders. I have a LOT of respect for the guys at the back end who are half as fit as me and still manage to finish the race. I always feel sorry for the one's who come in and prize giving and lucky draws have already finished.
  9. It was rather deceptive. And around the 40km mark some of us had jelly for legs and bike was getting a bit close for comfort to that edge...
  10. Unfortunately, as the saying goes, it all happened so fast... Only things that I could pic up was that his hair was grey...but I'd say late 40's with greying hair and if memory serves a black shirt with red around the shoulder/collar area. I had lots of time to think about it during the next 30km, so I figured he could have been an international rider doing the epic and got thrown into E batch and so made his way through the field of weaker riders. I've never come across a local rider who just tries push you off the trail without as much as a peep coming out of his mouth. On a different note, those are some epic pics. That side of the mountain section there was hella scary once I realised how far down you would go if you take a tumble.
  11. Ja, this was not an easy ride. Also does not help if you haven't done much riding in the last 4-6 weeks. Early morning I was a bit worried about the fires in the back with the smoke hanging over us, but turned out to be okay. Got my first skrik of the day when none of the loos had any toilet paper just before 7am. Special shout out goes to the complete box who tried to overtake a bunch of us, being slightly held up on the sharp downhill switchbacks by an older gentleman who wasnt too comfortable on these sections. He tried on 3 occasions to take me on the inside on the switchbacks and eventually got passed and caused an accident of the older gentleman as he went past him too on a corner, causing a 4 bike pile-up in the process. No apologies, just kept on riding. If I had the energy left in my legs to chase him down, I really wanted to go moer him.
  12. Hi Gen Just wanting to check if you can still buy a fitness device from the Online Shop and then claim it back from your Health Saver? With all these changes, you never know...
  13. So the other day a guy sends me a message with no introduction, nothing. He just offers to buy my item for sale at less than half of what I'm asking - CASH!! So instead of telling him where to shove it, I go check out his profile and see he's got a bike up for sale. So, naturally, I make him an "offer" on his bike. Only difference is that this dude did not seem to take too lightly at being low-balled, but perfectly happy to try low-ball me
  14. Possibly following this thread as we speak
  15. Oats and a banana. Cup of coffee so I can go to the loo and not have to worry about a mid-race bathroom visit. As a matter of interest... How many bathroom visits do you okes have on race day? I seem to have 2 pit stops. First one with morning coffee at home and second visit as soon as I get to the race venue.
  16. You mean to say no token water bottle or sachet of Squirt bum cream?
  17. Where and when can we collect our race packs?
  18. I kept thinking to myself this weekend that it's called the 99'er but is 102km in distance. Is that because the race only really begins at 99km when you have to tackle Vissershok Rd and Odendaal?
  19. Thanks Baz Luhrmann
  20. I think it was a valid question as I have also wondered to what lengths average Joe might go through to improve his physical ability, be it with EPO or just a bit of testosterone. I think it is human nature to want to become better at something, even if you are just a weekend warrior riding at the back. It's also the case when you think about the amount of supplements some of us take just to have some sort of competitive advantage. Creatine, Glutamin, protein shakes, etc, etc. One is legal, whereas the other is illegal. Not an ideal comparison. But I still think it's a valid debate as to what lengths (financially even) people will go through to improve their times.
  21. I go to Virgin Active on Multiply. The 25% discount works up to a maximum of something like a R500 discount. It then works on a rolling 3-month basis where you need to be at gym approximately 10-12 times average per month for you to get the maximum discount. It catches you when you're sick, go on leave, etc.
  22. Already sounds like he is going to finish ahead of most of us
  23. I'm beginning to understand that what I understand as non-technical the missus finds to be Diamond Black graded riding. So it's all relative. Based on his fitness, he will manage by the sounds of it. I don't think the race is too technical, but he needs to be comfortable riding around steep/sharp switchbacks up & down, manage to squeeze past some precariously placed rocks and ride over a few boom wortels. Other than that it's just having to deal with some congestion at some of these obstacles as people get off their bikes and push, etc.
  24. Only 2 apps: Momentum and Multiply Money but I agree, this could have been integrated onto a single app. * Multiply Money is where your cashbacks from discounts go to when you shop at PnP and Dischem for example.
