  9. oh ja, mental toughness for sure that's part of it. You have to be so hard, selfish and arrogant to win. at least from the time you line up at the start t othe time you collapse off your bike!
  10. It really is such a complicated thing. So many variables tweak how you perform. You can train and eat and rest like the best cyclist in the world, but what makes you the winner? You then have to look at the networks in your life, your support structures, what/who builds you up what drags you down. When you are on that startline the state of your networks plays a huge role on your performance that day. Also I think there is a lot to be said for who is the hungriest for the win. Your mind can take your body a lot further if you really want it.

Hopefully you are very close to finishing that nasty thing! I did some "light" research into alien vegetation a few years ago when the local government gave notice to start eradicating the alien vegetation in the reserve next to my parents property. What spurred on this sudden interest was the fact that the alien vegetation just happened to be just about every tree on the hill / reserve. I felt that the trees were far more picturesque and added atmosphere to the area. Even though the tress had been there for years and quite sparse in comparison to the Fynbos' date=' the municiplaity felt that the Fynbos was at risk and went forward and removed the trees. Learning about the whole ecological cycle was very interesting, but like I said, it was light research. I doubt I would survive your thesis. But I have no doubt someone (hopefully many) will find it very interesting reading.[/quote'] well I know a bit about it. I've been studying the topic for nearly 7 years so if you ever have a question....

thanks, for correcting my shocking spelling, the advice and the luck. It isn't on sports or language. It's on invasive alien grasses in the cape. In case you cared, or were interested. Sadly my interest and care are fast disappearing.

I know you like pushing buttons. That's why I haven't bothered to reply on the other thread. I used to LOVE rugby and cricket when I was in school. Then there were a whole whack of scandalous things that happened and I lost interest. Still when all your mates are watching it's pretty antisocial to leave the room. How am I doing? Writing nasty thesis. yuck yuck yuck. cant wait to hand in and start being a serious full time athelete. OK semi serious. hooray for heaps of pain and suffering.

fair enough. Ur lank grumpy hey. honeybear. and terribly serious. I hope your bike makes you happy then, since it clearly is not afrikaans or "gewone" South African type sports. sweetie. hmm. funny.

mmm yes excellent. funny guy eh? it's useful to know about other sports so you can blend with the rest of society a little easier.
  19. Thanks chick. ...guess what I have to write a bit of it in...Afrikaans. That er dying language? Eish going to need help with those big words!
  20. such a cynic
  21. Do you really want to discuss this? All languages change through time, rarely do they die. Yes there are lots of dialects within languages, for example from the Cape coloured Afrikaans to the platteland Afrikaans. Afrikaans itself was derived from what? Dutch? English...have you heard the "English" you hear in the streets of London? I'm sorry but THAT is not English. Compare English spoken today to English spoken 300 years ago. That English is very very dead. No I don't think Afrikaans is a dying language, esp with people like Nellie around. If Afrikaans is dying so is the culture and the people who are part of that. As far as I can see that is definitely not the case. I do afterall live in Stellenbosch! dammit Im sposed to be writing my thesis not debating language!
