  1. What you should be seeing is a mountain range in the background but sadly the outeniqua mountains are smoldering and have reignited pretty badly along the 7 passes - riding in the smoke was stupid but fortunately I punctured and had a long walk back. I so rarely ride my road bike that I had no way to fix it
  2. And only 2700 dollars, plus shipping, bargain
  3. happy to ride with you - I'm around from 30th of december but it better be a rest day for you - I think we ride at vastly different paces - I can see you van from my house, think there's a squatter in it after the fires we've had here
  4. I have a German Answer fork on my gravel hardtail - I don't think it's specced on any bike and its awesome and 1108 or 1180 grams - given the impressive results of that gamble, I'm happy to try the lauf - I will admit I'm soft, I found my cannondale slate a bit harsh on the gravel I ride - I will try the lauf on my Open first, just so I can weigh in below 7.5 on a large hardtail. Watch this space for an honest review from an average at best rider.
  5. what bike do you ride pygaschmyga? a fringe manufacturer by any chance?
  6. Funny you say this, she wears flip flops pretty much 24/7 and I happen to make them for a living. She doesn't have my bad habits apart from wine
  7. I come from a surfing background and we have a quiver. Different boards for different conditions - is this not how cycling works? Wish someone had let me know before I blew my pension. No the Open is amazing - yesterday I took it on my 30k loop which is how I judge myself. 2 minutes faster and came home into a headwind. Lauf fork needs a new project and it just so happens I have a plan..
  8. ok dirtypot, you had me at "it'll be lighter" - just pulled the trigger on another bike part I don't need. It's got so bad I send the stuff straight to my LBS - they are less judgey than my wife
  9. 2 years old, his first post and the same day he joined - must have been keen on that fork to name himself racing4lauf
  10. Please report back on how it performs and more specifically what sort of riding you are using it for - I have heard a few differing opinions and I'm looking for someone to talk me into it because I really need my arm twisted to buy new bike stuff
  11. Fantastic read and very amusing - inspirational but not in the way it should be for me. I am now certain I don't have the mental fortitude. Instead I will follow you and cheer you on remotely - best of luck
  12. Standard garmin stem mount and the bottle cages are blackburn, 27g for both. I need to rein it in like I said because the goal was 7.99kgs - I would not admit in a public forum what these 300g less have cost - bike was quite reasonable before I encountered German products - saddle was a bargain though
  13. Still doesn't beat your weight loss plan Partydave so I may just remove a brake lever - sad part about getting to my bikes goal weight is I now have to get to mine - right as beer season starts.
  14. but this does include garmin mount and 2 bottle cages plus this weekends dust
  15. and that's another 100grams - another 98 coming off when the new seatpost arrives - I may have to look into those bolts
  16. I wouldn't know, campy on my road bike and xx1 on mtb but it does seem an upgrade from 1 x 11 and at least its available - with shipping, hub costs etc of the fishing stuff you are probably looking at XO anyway
  17. bike is already lighter than target and with yesterdays purchase of a schmolke seatpost, time to reign in the spending - just put the saddle on and about to weigh in again... stand by
  18. You have to get below 5 and then decide - plus you just have to ride it occasionally for it to earn it's place in the stable
  19. it's a disease, much like Colnagos, thankfully it only applies to the one bike - and it all started with a really inexpensive second hand frame for me and then down the rabbit hole I went - very satisfying and I totally understand why this machine must be sub 5. Also, in defence of weight weenies, a lot of this stuff moves to the next bike so it's a once off cost (yes I just justified it)
  20. Looks like you have it covered and if that saddle doesn't work for me, you get another 21g off - I know 300 euros is ridiculous but that's 65g on the seatpost right there
  21. did a half hearted search on your thread but couldn't find some info - what do the following items weigh? stem, seatpost, seat? As you know I'm on a similar quest with my hardtail but function comes before weight, easy to say as my goal was 8 and I'm approaching 7.5 - if a few of my ideas don't work, I might be able to help with those 80 grams - Otherwise if you're in the mood for blowing some cash on your build, numen stem 65g, schmolke seatpost 65g, ax lightnes saddle 64 - all on R2bike - my stem and seatpost were a bit heavier because I'm "bigger boned" than you and because its an MTB I made sure they were all weight appropriate
  22. completely off topic but me and Mo had very similar time 2 weeks ago......but I was on a bike and I'm not utterly useless. In my defence it was windy and I did 45km. Mo only did 42 and a bit and his shoes looked fast, definitely more than 2k Very uncool to charge more than an agreed price but considering the knock the seller is taking, quite understandable
  23. Have to take it back to my LBS - this setup beyond my paygrade - I don't even know how to take it apart and I can on my other bikes - I don't have the right tools - came with this crank and BB but I can't find it now which given my lack of bike skills is probably a blessing - think a beer is a safer option
