  1. oh yes, Carbon Bicycle repairs in Durbanville made me the stickers for my fork - the colours match better and just finish it off
  2. Took the Open out for a proper ride today (proper for me being 70km) on the 7 Passes road here on the Garden Route. Climbed 1100m so comfortably and this is where I really noticed the weight. I was able to ride up a gear with the same effort but increased speed. A few creaks from the crank/BB area - wondering if maybe the adapters needed to piece these lightweight components together have a bearing on that - this is a problem for me, I've sold cars because I couldn't find a rattle - fortunately despite selling Spez, my LBS are super cool and have invested a lot of time and effort into my project so I will pop in on Monday and see if they can make it silent I didn't have the balls to try the carbon AX lightness saddle I bought on the Hub. My bum however was very impressed with the second hand Sworks Phenom saddle - luckily the branding is minimal. The Carbon one would reduce the overall weight by 98g. I will test it soon.
  3. I too ordered both items - and also please try this for yourself rather than listening to me - I found the Farrbar an amazing piece of kit on its' own - with the aero clip on I found my best position was taken away. But all is not lost because I have bike issues so there is always somewhere to put a new addition - I added the aero bar to my gravel bike beefing it up to a chunky 7.8kgs - I rode 70km today and for 40 I thought, "I don't think I need this" The longer the ride, the more I used it and I found the additional positions relaxed my shoulders. I'm a big fan of both products, but for me, not together
  4. Definitely no expert, just love a comeback story, however hopeful. Yes he was younger, but in answer to your question, 2016, one Mark Cavenish TDF after 3 lean years https://www.bikehub.co.za/features/_/news/road/international-road/comeback-king-cavendish-streaks-home-again-r5212
  5. Cav isn’t all doom and gloom, he’s been written off before and comeback - sure he’s older but I’m going against the general consensus and calling a fitting end to a remarkable sprinting career. He’s too proud to have 2018 as a bookend
  6. Got to be careful as a rookie Colnago owner when you post on this forum - everytime I look at my period incorrect super record cranks I think of Cippo - haven’t and probably won’t change them but it makes me check carefully before I do any nago bragging
  7. so glad I read this - I'm loving my farrbar and I have the bolt on aero but haven't tried it as I wanted to see how the farrbar was on it's own. I'm not adding the bolt on but will try it on another bike and would have over torqued
  8. Today SAPO delivered my new stem ordered in April - I have also recently purchased some totally unnecessary water bottles just because and 2 new saddles
  9. You obviously plan your rides around toilets - but a good bunny well worth it
  10. Off topic slightly, but the Pyga was designed 3 or 4 years ago and Matthys and Phil still smashing most comers on 2019 models of other bikes - speaks volumes for the bike - i'd recommend it to anyone (full disclosure, I'm seriously biased)
  11. I saw this and thought about it but even though this came out so light, it always had to be strong and comfortable - my butt can just tolerate the sworks phenom at a heavy 152g. If I could test that a saddle maybe but bum before all else
  12. Same goes for old cars, old surfboards and basically anything built to be driven or ridden. It was built for purpose, love it, polish it but above all else, use it
  13. The fork is a German brand called German Answer - Google them, this one weighs 1130 - I've never seen one and only bought it because it was so light. So far so good and because it's essentially a gravel bike, it's never going to have to take a serious beating. I have some minor tweaking with should get me down to 7.5 and then it's done. It rides really nicely
  14. Hard to give great feedback on the xcite fork as this bike is mostly a gravel grinder - they were awesome on the rutted gravel and when I stood to climb no bouncing about despite not being locked out. I'm sure I'll get to test them properly soon enough
  15. I have been battling manflu for nearly 2 months - riding K2C when I though I was better was a massive setback and then staring at my new lightweight build for the last 2 weeks has been tough - Finally today I did an easy 30km loop from home. I know people say its easier to lose weight personally that to be a weight weenie but this bike is astonishing. The lack of weight is so obvious that on a route I know like the back of my hand I had to keep looking for a tougher gear. I'm using a 36 on the front, hope I can fit something bigger! So happy with this build, now just need to fine tune the gorilla in the saddle
  16. Alain’s mileage for the year doubled in 4 days
  17. I got some help dating my master from this lady below - I just imagine that she's a super hot Italian with a penchant for South African mamil's who have a Colnago or two - maybe she can give you the info Parolini Laura e-mail: laura@colnago.com Tel.: +39 02 95308082 Fax: +39 02 95067379
  18. I am for most of December - I can see island lake from my house as I'm directly above it- hell of a hill to get up to me from there so you will be properly warmed up PM me if you fancy a ride or 2 But....at my pace
  19. I pretty much live on this road in a place called Hoekwil. If you start in George along what is now called Nelson Mandela boulevard you have about 15km of rolling but significant perfect newly tarred road. Perfect for a roadbike. Then about 8 km of bumpy gravel. Doable on a roadbike but not comfortable for modern babies (me). That section is about 400 climbing - next section from Hoekwil till dieprivier is now all tar 10km relatively flat with 2 medium climbs. Back onto gravel for about 10km up and down, really beautiful section, bit tricky but completely possible on a roadbike, just not comfortable. Short tar section through Karata maybe 3km and then about 7km of gravel - again ok on a roadbike but the descending all along would be slow on skinny tyres. You're now at the garden route trail park which which is around 50km from the start in George. I have ridden past to Knysna a few times but I'm not as well versed on the rest. It's mostly gravel and beautiful. 7 passes is perfect on a gravel bike, I ride mine but sometimes just for the descents I ride my dual sus. Ps my distances are estimates from memory
  20. Just my opinion which is related to my riding - I love gravel bikes because I'm a closet roadie and they have dropbars - I ride a lot of gravel and bought myself a really nice upmarket gravel grinder because I really wanted to believe - after a few months I realised my hardtail was faster and so much more comfortable - narrower tyres and at 7.7kgs, this does the trick - the only thing I'm going to change is the handlebars - I've been testing the Farrbar on another bike and its the business for these rides Some guys are tough enough but I'm not - I want a bit of travel pleasse
  21. thought we have learnt from the thread that shall not be mentioned that we greet (or ignore) everyone equally apart from sanctimonious, self righteous gravel bikers deliberately making life tougher for themselves
