  1. We were in Jonkers Sat and Sun, and although it was moer hot - I think a 1.5l bum bag will be enough because the streams are still very full - so lots of places to fill up with cold mountain water. I wouldn't take one bottle only though - that may just not be enough, and on a day like that I want some sort of bag just to have somewhere to put all the "food" I stuff myself with on a day like that.
  2. For a full face only option have a look at Fox Proframe (the newest version). Apparently very light and breathable with removable chin pads - so it can be ridden as a full face all the time. If the Leatt convertible one fits you it's probably the best value for money option. But yes, as Myles mentioned, you cannot remove your helmet for climbs.
  3. I found the opposite - blew through the travel on the RS very fast (I'm 100kg). DPX2 has excellent mid-stroke support. But I guess it has alot to do with the suspension design on the bike too. On my old Fox DPS Evol I blew through even faster than the RS Super Deluxe.
  4. Had an RS super deluxe on my last bike and have a DPX2 on my current bike. I'll take the DPX2 all day every day. That being said the super deluxe was very good - though it could be argued that it was just the DW link on the Evil that was the good part of the equation. When it comes to rear shocks Fox really are brilliant.
  5. Made a few rookie set-up errors which I have fixed for the most part now (handlebar and hood position). Bike is riding really nicely and surprisingly comfortable!
  6. I've watched it 3 times now, my favourite series of all time.
  7. The two red stages - Armageddon (Canaries) and Red Phoenix (Bennet's Red).
  8. I am fairly confident with it now (still need to ride a few times before the race) - I'm referring to Plumber in general not the drop in at the start. The reason I gave it a skip last year is because I knew for sure that I would walk the rock garden you are referring to, and I was quite unfit. So for me it was a choice between suffering up an extra climb just to walk a stage (and cause some traffic jams), or just do 3 stages I was very comfortable with. And... last year was my first year of enduro and it was all about taking part and progressing a bit - this year I am putting a bit more pressure on myself, so I am definitely going for it. The way I see it, a race is not the place to progress - the build up to it is. So if there are guys that are stressing about Plumber, or that haven't done it at all - just give it a skip on the day - like I mentioned - plenty of trails to still make the day worth while. On the Plumber drop - may be a while before I attempt that what scares me most about it is the speed you carry into the corner.
  9. And that is why I will be doing stage 2 hahaha
  10. Nothing wrong with giving stage 2 a skip.... the rest of the stages are considerably easier, and even just doing 3 of the 4 still gives you a lekker long day out and is still worth the entry fee.
  11. I highly doubt it. Besides for 90% of the field probably breaking their necks on it, I just don't see how it will be practical with everyone camping out in that area waiting to start red phoenix and plumber... I do hope the rock drop on Iron Monkey is open this year though - it's actually much easier (and faster) than the "chicken run" rock roll to the right of it.
  12. Ok, so here we go, really happy with the way it turned out - but a bit of a hodge podge build! - Large frame - Roval Wheelset I had in the garage (21mm internal width) - Farr Dot Gravel tyres - 45c (set up tubeless) - Shimano Tiagra 2x10 hydro groupset sourced from the classifieds. This was a bit of a mess, I had to borrow a post mount calliper from my wife's bike for the front brake because a flat mount cannot be made to work with a post mount fork (Iknew this going in). Back brake was fine. Front mech did not work - it was a bottom pull 31.6mm clamp - I needed a 34.9mm clamp with top pull. Had to use an old silver (UGLY) Sram XX1 mech. I will go to 1x when Shimano GRX becomes available here - that way I can keep the brakes I have now. - Rapide Frontier Gravel bar - 440cm, handlebar tape, and 160mm rotors. - Ryder Force saddle - Funn seatpost and stem (90mm) Overall I am very happy with the setup, will take her out for a spin Sat morning and post some better pics than this. Best part... all in I spent 11k for this build (obviosuly does not include value of parts I already had). Worst part... she is a porker. Didn't weigh yet, but I am guessing 10kg+.
  13. No, it's the strongest milk based coffe you get. Stronger than a cappucino, stronger than a flat white. 60ml espresso (double shot), 60ml milk. That's a very strong flavour.
  14. My friends here (maybe biased) seem to think Slummies is less komen that Pta, but I dunno. Guess we'll have to see how I turn out after a few years in this place...
  15. Hahaha I didn't live in Pta long enough to become that komen!
  16. Medium budget and no regard for weight: Hope Pro4 with some Spank Oozy Trail 345. My fat a$$ has not been able to do damage to them in the last 3 years. I'm seriously impressed with the set-up. Pretty sure it would be as bullet proof on Novatec hubs as well.
  17. Hahaha I can't change my nature. I do however have an appreciation for more subtle cars as well
  18. Liked season 1, lost interest a few episodes into season 2 - maybe I should give it another go. Masterchef, pretty much the only series my wife and I watch together - down to the last 3 episodes now. Pity it's the last season, really loved Masterchef Aus!
  19. Happy to hear that, fits the bill for me. Groupo arriving tomorrow so building up on Friday, will post some pics then.
  20. Or just someone that likes a nice looking (subjective), fastish, comfortable, practical car? Bakkies give a level of practicality nothing else on the road does, and if you have enough money you can buy one that drives like a sedan and looks good too (again subjective). I don't drive a Raptor, but I would if I could afford one. (Same description of the above person I have seen in expensive sedans)
  21. What length stems are you all building up with on Large frames? Haven't been on a drop bar bike in a while so not really in touch with the norms these days... Thinking 90mm is a good place to start.
  22. Look at casing rather than tread pattern. A DHF in Exo casing is the same "toughness" as a Rekon in Exo casing - the DHF will just be a horrible tyre (heavy and lots of roling resistence) for marathon and complete overkill for Buffelsdrift. If you are looking at the Maxxis range Exo casing will likely serve you fine in that area. If you are particularly rough on tyres look for the Exo+ casing. Anything more than that will be overkill for marathon riding in Gauteng.
  23. Nature of 2nd hand transactions. It is annoying, but there is no way around it. If someone sends me an offer like that I won't even take the time to reply.
  24. I did see that as well as another groupo (both 2x) in the classifieds for good prices - hopefully they hang around for a week or two so pay-day can come around. I gotta say I won't go 2x on a mtb again, but for what I will be using this bike for I am not too phased by either 1x or 2x.
  25. Thanks, I will do! It's probably going to be a bit of a slow build being n+1 (+1) and all - but keen to get it done!
