  1. I really wish Rush Sports would start bringing on some of these DHF and DHR plus tyres....
  2. I have done a bit of time with an Ardent Race on the front of my XC bike, tbh, it was not great - but I prefer a grippy tyre on the front (not suggesting a Minion for XC) - something like a Rekon maybe? The Ardent Race just broke grip one too many times for me to really be comfortable with it on the front. As a rear tyre I love it though.... EDIT: If you are looking for all out speed and have the skills to back up the lack of grip in the front, then an Aspen or Ikon on the rear and Ardent Race on the front may be for you.
  3. The Assegai - for when you don't want any grip?
  4. At least I know you still have time to buy (lots of) coffee
  5. Large! At 1.78 and having made the mistake of going for medium bikes one too many times, I can with 100% confidence say that a person that is 1.78 does not belong on any other size but a large! Exceptions of course being maybe jump or "play" bikes where you need something exceptionally nimble.
  6. That's an impressive amount of hours! Well done.
  7. If you can afford it, and it'a your size - this is the one. All you need to put on that bike is a Lyne dropper post.
  8. Yeah, for sure, Silverback are doing a bunch of things right at the moment. To be honest, there are so many good options at your price point. Just make sure the bike you are buying has good suspension, and a head angle on the slcaker side of things and you should be good to go...
  9. So you need an all rounder... Wheel size should be an after thought, ratyer look for the ride qualities you want. If I was you I'd be looking at a Giant Trance (king of the all rounder category, and there are usually a few in the classfieds), or a Reign if you want a monster truck (but won't be as playful). If you want to go the 29" route I'd look at Specialized Stumpy - there should be a few of the 2016-2018 models going into the classifieds now with the new model out.
  10. You looking for a long travel monster truck or shorter travel and playfull/nimble bike? If you want a monster truck there have been a few very nice Giant Reigns in the classifieds lately for around that price...
  11. That announcement was from Omnico as "Fox" they just have an online booking system so you can go directly through them instead of your LBS. Not advised though.
  12. Looks like these frames are very well thought out. Attention to detail like this offset routing for the dropper cable just does it for me.
  13. I saw that frame at EWC1 - it's different, but flipen nice! Hopefully the raw alu will be a colour option on the production frames?
  14. Very true, just because something can be used for a job does not mean it should be used for the job! I carry the One Up plug and pliers kit with me - it's about as close as you come to a full size master link pliers - it's expensive, but a pleasure to use.
  15. In that case they probably paid no VAT or duties on the bikes as it would be seen as a used bike/sports equipment that they were travelling with. Unless they went and declared the items - then it would be 15% VAT, 15% duty, but they would've been able to claim back the VAT they paid in Europe.
  16. Someone has their priorities sorted!
  17. Got a ride in yesterday morning before the storm hit. I'm thinking Helderberg will be good to ride on the hardtail by tomorrow afternoon some time.
  18. Oh okay, nothing too extreme in either direction then...
  19. That HA looks steep and the reach short! Or is that just me?
  20. It's more of an Hub joke. Posts aren't completely irrelevant though - it shows commitment to the community and effort that has gone into the profile. The thinking is such a person would be less likely to tarnish their name than someone with no posts. Agreed the rating system is more effective though. I look at feedback first, if someone hasa few good reviews I don't care if the have 5000 posts or 0 posts. If someone has no feedback yet I look at their post count - if they have no posts I will only buy in cash when I pick up the items, if they have lots of posts I am more likely to be trusting of them and may buy something of less value unseen/via courier. It has worked out for me so far.
  21. Like many okes have said, carbon is better if you are looking for a out and out race bike. And yes, the Titan is stupidly good balue for money, you complete for less than than you could the components alone. So if that's what makes you excited, go that route. But in terms of comfort, nothing comes close to steel (except Ti?). Nothing I say will convince you of that - riding a steel bike will though. But also, like others have said, if that's not what floats your boat, and you are after pure value for money and a light build - buy the Titan because nothing else is even in the same galaxy when it comes to price.
  22. Steel is real Quite simply put though, when something does not have suspension there is no other material that can compare to the ride quality of a steel bike. Obviously there is a bit more to that statement like the type of steel used, how it is put together, etc... on which I cannot comment when it come to Farr. But this looks like a pretty awesome deal to me, especially if you want to go the custom build route. There would be one in my garage right now if it wouldn't have come with an instant divorce.
  23. Climbed up Botmaskop for the first time yesterday, and then down Skyfall and into the Banhoek trail system. Man, it is gorgeous. The views from the top of Botmaskop are insane, nd the valley down in Banhoek is breathtaking. Trails are pretty special too, there are some good challenging climbs and the descents are super fast and flowy - I was on my hardtail and smiling ear to ear the whole day. I will definitely do the ride again. Good change of pace from riding the enduro bike up for an hour followed by a 10min descent. All in all about a 40km ride with about 10km of tar (back over to Stellenbosch via Helsholgte pass).
