  1. Talking just cyclists killed by motorists my thumbsuck says 1. Alcohol 2. Texters 3. White double cabs In my experience, Taxi's may drive like tools but they are at least concentrating on the job at hand.
  2. 3 workouts on ADZ and you're there!
  3. I once had words with a lady in Kalk Bay. Her basic justification for running me into the gutter was that the road was very narrow there so she had no choice. The thought of slowing down till it was safe to overtake hadn't even entered into her thinking.
  4. I'm super keen on an Instinct Surf. But for the $ I'll rather keep my forerunner and buy a better wetsuit which will make a more material difference to my experience. Anyway I digress. IMO, buying 2nd hand consumer electronics is right up there with buying a 2nd hand high end SUV. The OP's experience just reinforces that for me.
  5. Sorry for the disappointment. Can I ask an offsides question please? What is so wonderful about a Fenix that one would risk this sort of disappointment when you can get a new Instinct or even a Suunto 9 for less? That someone hasn't sweated all over and used as a kneepad. https://www.takealot.com/suunto-9-baro-sports-watch-charcoal-titanium/PLID72466377 https://www.takealot.com/garmin-instinct-rugged-outdoor-smartwatch-graphite/PLID54854154

    MotoGP

Not Moto GP but Calvin Vlaanderen took the win in this weekends MXGP. He races on a dutch passport but he's a PE boy. It always amazes me how SA seems to produce so many MX stars with a TINY talent pool and racing scene.
  7. Very nice. But what's the deal with the flats on the roadie?
  8. Myself. training programs are the way.
  9. I will never ever use travelstart ever again. Long story short I booked for France in 2019. Covid happened and we kept the "tickets" hoping to redeem them at a later date. When the time came to book or cancel it was impossible to speak to an actual human being. They had basically retrenched all of their actual staff and replaced them with a WhatsApp service that was impossible to actually get any result. I'm ashamed to say this but the only joy I got was after logging a complaint on hellopeter.
  10. is the best one the ADZ climb or the Ventoux one?
  11. Top freeloader tip from me. To make best use of those free 25kms do your rides on the Ventoux. I managed 3 free workouts using that method last month. I'm paying for Zwift from this month till probably August. Doing a little program to keep myself committed.
  12. For me if you want gamey, Zwift is much better than RGT. Free RGT was fine for the summer for when the SE humps for a week but I'm too tight to pony up the $17 a month for Zwift when I'd much rather ride outside, or surf, or run, or maybe wash the dishes. Top tip. You can join events and ride other people's magic roads as part of the freebie. The free workouts are limited but ok. I really wish Zwift would do a family option like Rouvy. $17 is too expensive IMO.
  13. Ok so 20 minute round trip on that beastie? I pretty much like 1 type of bike. Race replica superbikes. But a Triumph Rocket is a special thing. What possessed them to put that motor into a motorbike is beyond me but I'm glad they did.
  14. I've never understood why DSTV advertises DSTV to people who are already DSTV subscribers. That's like me constantly telling my wife how big or not so big my man bits are. I'm pretty sure she already knows. While we are talking pay vs not pay. The one service I'm paying for which I'm MORE THAN HAPPY to pay for is Youtube. R109 a month. 6 Family members. No adverts YT Music Downloadable playlists YT music (ad free)
  15. It's because your wrist is not straight and that pinching of blood pipes messes up the reading of wrist based HR. I've had exactly the same issue with both Suunto and Garmin forerunner 45. If you're cycling it's best to get a HR strap.
  16. Thought it was just me. @the OP I have a Garmin Forerunner 45 which is pretty much the cheapest HR/fitness watch you can buy and I'm very happy with it. Apart from the hassle of having to reconnect every time I want to sync. I got it for R2999 on takealot. You can get it for R2699 on Cape Union Mart. IMO buying a used fitness watch is like buying a used Golf GTI. You might get lucky but you probably won't. https://www.capeunionmart.co.za/products/garmin-forerunner-45-watch/1550860100001.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwsJ6TBhAIEiwAfl4TWMCwVlujH7v_JHUV48Wsyh4wQK1fPX4Ymt1Zd6OC0Vyaiqvv-4OesBoClNsQAvD_BwE
  17. Yeah. They are talking production capacity in the thousands and the guy in the youtube clip hinted very strongly that the investors behind the project have very deep pockets and aren't looking to be conservative. If even half of his claims come true they are going to be a major disruptor in the motorcycle space. If they've got a motor and battery that has decent range and power there is no limit to the applications they can drop it into. Commuters, Moto, Mini Superbikes. Imagine an 80 BHP road going motard based on that thing. I truly believe that the real future for EV's is 2 wheeled. Honda Cubs move WAY more people around the planet than Ford F150's
  18. There's an electric bike coming out soon called the Stark Varg. https://starkfuture.com/products/stark-varg They claim the same range as a 450 with a full tank of gas. And it's fully tunable ITO power. So you can tune it to feel like a 125 right up to a fire breathing monster that makes 80 BHP. I think a standard 450 makes around 60 bhp. And those are hardly lacking in the power department. The bike looks pretty advanced. The test rider has been Sebastien Tortelli Who's no slouch on a dirt bike. I've watched a few vids of the guy who runs the show on the Gypsy Tales youtube channel and they don't seem like a bunch of garagista's
  19. If you want free you can try a thing called Spivi. They run it at my step daughter's gym. No ERG mode so you have to make the power with your gears. I tried it and fir a freebie it's ok. If you run mac you can try mywoosh. It's also free (for now) but only runs on mac.
  20. It's not pretty but it is functional. If you look carefully you can see some wetsuits hanging in the toilet. There's also a bunch of helmet and riding shoe storage in there. Out of sight is a shelf where all the running and dog walking shoes live.
  21. Credibility gone. You have to praise all Hope and Garmin products irrespective of your personal views.
  22. I had a set of Hope V2's. Got them from CRC. I went big with braided hoses and floating rotors. Multiple Alps trips. Many many many full pulls of Pleney. No fade. 0 bleeds. Then I got a bike with Shimano Saints. I have a bottle of mineral oil in my garage.
  23. So serious question time. It's getting to the time of year where we need to start running with lights. We use a light called a Giant Recon HL 500. It's a 500 lumen light that we use for cycling and running. What makes the lights great for us is that they are tiny and they make use of gopro mounts. The mounts for the bikes are so small they literally live on our bikes permanently. Which leads me to my question. My wife runs with a chesty. She's quite slight and the mount and light sort of move around a bit. Last year I would zip tie my light to an old hydration pack but it's time to get a bit more serious now. I'm thinking of taking the chesty for myself and getting her a shoulder mount. Anyone on here run with gopro chesty's or shoulder gizimo's?
  24. Hey! No judgements from me. It's a TCR with a different colorway. I absolutely love this time of year the lovely crisp mornings before the sun comes up are just so special. You really feel like you are getting the jump on everyone else.
