  1. glad you had a good experience unlike you I thought Hout Bay DID need a bike shop, there were a couple of private individuals offering bike services out of their garages in Hout Bay, but no shop and nothing over the hills in Noordhoek, Constantia or Camps Bay either, and it is on arguably the most ridden route around Cape Town, and on the Argus route. what's the mechanics name?
  2. +1 this is where you'll find the guys training for the CT challenge, tri's and long distance swims a great 3-in-1 destination for running, riding and swimming
  3. superglued my chip into the plastic holder to stop the infernal rattling. admittedly its a pretty permanent solution, but I have more than 1 chip
  4. the answer you're looking for is "trackstand"
  5. i tend to find that the dude hanging out the passenger side window is always good for a chat as well
  6. have ridden past quite a few times already, lived in hout bay a few years ago always thought the area needed a LBS, especially as its on probably THE most popular/cycled route in CT! will definitely pop in and say "hi", best of luck and hope business goes well for you guys
  7. i leave towel, shoes, suit, ties, cufflinks, spare undies, toiletries all in my office, the only thing i carry with me on the bike every day is a clean shirt and spare tube/levers. I think it comes from my days of commuting by bike in London and being involved in something called "SCR" Silly Commuter Racing (you can check it out on the bikeradar forums).
  8. sorry to hijack but how long have you had your Elite wheelset? I have a set of 2008 Kysrium SLs and was wondering if I need to get them serviced to prevent anything like you mentioned happening. The last thing I want is for spoke/nipple to completely seize up and then break the rim trying to get it sorted.
  9. The word on the street was that Wiggins was "in the form of his life" for the TdF. Just how many hours he has spent on the indoor TT over the past 2 months since breaking his collarbone to maintain his form I don't know. The Lifecycles movie had a great clip of Kevin Evans on the TT with 1 arm in a sling after his unfortunate Cape Epic mishap....the dedication and commitment of these guys is unreal....chapeau!
  10. great to see wiggins and froome blowing nibili and rodriguez out the back
  11. my morning commute ride is 17km in under 40 minutes, i have a quick glass of OJ before i leave the house just to kick-start the metabolism, and the 1 water bottle on the bike in case i get thirsty, which i usually don't as its too flipping cold at 6am
  12. big thumbs up to JOC cycles and in particular JP, has helped me out big time with sourcing an economical replacement for my rear wheel on my Scott Speedster commuter Originally I thought the wheel was only out of true from all the potholes and general road detritus on my daily commute from Constantia to the Waterfront, but turned out that the rim had thin hairline fractures and one of the spokes had pulled the nipple through the rim with others about to do the same. Serves me right I guess for riding a rear 24 spoker, have replaced it with a much more sensible 32! Thanks JOC
  13. have to say i really enjoyed it, thought it was beautifully shot. also really enjoyed the morewood handmade piece before
  14. also going tonight, didnt realise there was food on offer as well
  15. you can see the video footage of the attack itself on the BBC website, pretty shocking to say the least, but just another example of the breakdown of traditional society morals and values and respect in the UK
  16. EINA!! Sorry to hear that, hope he mends well and quickly.
  17. anyone know the vertical ascent climbed over the 60km route?
  18. that tree tunnel was flipping AWESOME!! I thought the race route signage was 100s, also a bit miffed the drinks were packed up before i crossed the line (but hey i should ride faster right?), and I thought they could have highlighted a few of those deep gullies running across the trails a bit better, specifically I'm talking about the one on the first real proper descent which I hit quite hard and did a front wheelie for 25 metres trying desperately to style it out and not go flying over the bars
  19. the only problem i had at that culvert point was getting cramp in my neck...at least it made a change from my legs i guess my first time riding die burger and also mtb in stellenbosch, did the 60km starting in E and found some of the gradients insanely tough, but fantastic views and a great route. Those last 2 climbs finished me. my time was a pretty slow 5 hours, my roadie legs just don't get me across the mucky stuff quick enough
  20. trigger fingers at the ready!!
  21. thanks, entered
